http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...t-team-offense-miami-dolphins-talking-points/ Last season, it was Jason Allen as the "go to guy" when opposing offenses needed a first down in the passing game, so far it has been Nate Jones who has taken JA's place/role, and we had the same results v the Panthers. Granted it is one preseason game, but keep in mind Mushin M and Steve Smith were spectators for the game, when the season starts things will only be much tougher for the defensive backs. So should we keep Jones as the nickel db, or should Vontae or who take over that role?
I'd like to see the rookies some more. If one of them is outperforming Jones for the next two games, I don't see why they wouldn't get the job. That has been pretty consistant with every position under this regime.
I'm not sure that Vontae doesn't already have the job. Remember, Sean Smith didn't play at Carolina. So, the question is, with W. Allen and S. Smith in, who comes in as the 3rd DB? I'm thinking that's Vontae right now. Obviously the game tomorrow night will lend a lot to what's going to happen.
Wucha u talkin about Compadre, my boy vontae is still in the hunt for the starter position, a few of us are on the record for vontae winning the job over smith, {our other boy}despite the hype. What a great situation to have...... jmo, but i see a very talented, physical, all around corner that is receptive to his piers, i stay with vontae. either way, it looks like both our rooks will be the 2nd and 3rd corners, with J allen at the #4..thats how i had it playin out....man thats a nice blend of size, speed and physicalness.
I don't think we have any #1 Corners, #2 Corners, etc.. I see Sean Smith covering the the #1 Receivers because of his size. For example, when we play NE, I see Sean Smith covering Randy Moss. But, when we play Carolina, I see Will Allen covering Steve Smith. What I'm saying is, matchups due to size will determine who our corners cover, not their place on the depth chart.
mos def. Just watched the patriots first quarter in their last game, full spread offense from the get, 4 and 5 receiver sets..we'll need our top 4 boys matchin up, and it wont matter who's #1 or #4
I think Vontae is going to need atleast a year or two before he sees major playing time. I don't think he is even the nickel back this season. Physically he has it, but mentally that kid needs to grow up.
Maybe, the one thing with Vontae is, he can tackle, he is probably our best tackling Cb...already...after 2 preseason starts... As long as the Staff knows he can do that much, sticking him in coverage packages becomes much simpler..
I think Vontae is one of the guys that will take a couple of years to 'get it'. Once he does, hes going to be good. Better than Smith IMO. Vontae just needs to learn that until he 'gets it', he wont be a starter.
good point, and its not just because hes a good tackler, but how he plays the run in general, thats what iam seein, i think theres enough film on the guy already, where dcordinators are not gonna run his way, and i know he can cover, we just gotta live through a few double moves until he gets it, lol, then he will be all good. Diagnoses very well from the corner, anticipates, and has the athletisism to finish, and finish with authority...kid has all the physical tools to be great, no question. and dont forget this, one of the biggest words in our mantra is intimidation, were open about it here, vontae with his size, speed and physicality, can intimidate. Lets see them two 2maro and after the game put it on the record..
