just another one of my silly threads
can't believe it went this far
    however
be advised: there is a wardrobe change coming soon to the Miami Dolphins
have no idea what it will be
but I'm sure it will wreak of masculinity & intimidation
it's a Parcells' thing  wait & see; remember, you heard it first from me

  3. Colorado Dolfan

    Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?

That kinda falls under the argument I pointed out already. :wink2:

Why such a fear of change? I honestly can't understand it.

If the Dolphins do change uniforms and not to the "nostalgia-pleasing' 70's uniforms, how many of you are actually going to stop being fans of the team?

I can understand if there was a total change of the team name and color scheme. The fact is, though, that the uniform isn't what made the team great in the 70's... It was the players, the coaching, and the ownership all working together.

The League today is not the League of the 70's. Most of the players today, while arguably bigger, stronger, and faster than their counterparts in the 70's, couldn't play with the ferocity and tenacity that the earlier players possessed. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that I'm totally against a change back to the "nostalgia-pleasing' uniforms of the 70's... Simply because the players of today don't deserve it.

    Just my opinion. :hi5:

I wouldn't go that far. I think we are due for a change as well, but can mix the old and new without going that far into the new arena football heavy style uniforms.

For starters, I would like to see us get rid of the stripes on the helmet and go back to more of a cream color helmet than the bright glitter filled white.

can you link me up with this "proof" bro? can you offer us an example where the colors or logo has won even a single game.. I can't remember any teams coming out for warm ups and deciding to go home because the other teams colors scared them into a forfeit. I've been watching a LOT of years now and can't recall seeing this supposed phenomenon even once.

Yeah, like it does the Raiders...just as long as they have good enough players.

Otherwise, their intimidating silver and black, with the raider on the helmet means jack squat when they field a team of less talented players.

    PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF COLORS

The black car has the physical potential to run the fastest against a clock. But when you run against an opponent, psychologically speaking, you should use a car of a different color scheme. The difference that color coordination makes may also surprise you by its largeness. It, by far, out distances the gains of an all black car.

The goal of color coordinating is to create the feeling of power. This puts you in a positive mental attitude, and your opponert takes on the submissive role. Pick a color that is disturbing to your opponents - not one that is pleasing! You can use color to create stress or make drivers fearful; like the American Indians did with war paint.

The idea here is to create unpleasantness and to arouse your opponent in an anxious unsettled way. The best color to accomplish this with is a pale red, followed by yellow, orange, and black. The most disturbing yellows are highly saturated, but not bright. You also need a little bit of a strange design too, some kind of intricate, disturbing pattern. My son's car "Tony's Flyin Tiger" is a good example of causing stress in the driver of the Tiger's opponent, as was shown at the Fort Wayne Championships. The quality of driving by the opponent is greatly diminished. If you'll think back to the NDR finals at Fort Wayne last year, you'll remember that no one had a good drive against Tonyl Against the top three competitors, one drove off the track, another was wobbling back and forth all the way down. The only top competitor that had a fair drive against Tony was Jeanne Barr.

The Cincinnati Bengals also use a similar type color scheme on their helmets, which creates stress in their opponents.

Other color schemes are dominant, which gives your opponent the feeling he is being dominated, which again causes him to drive poorly. The best colors to use to create the feeling in your opponent is black. Black is the color of power and dominance. It also signifies evil and badness. Black is especially effective when used with charcoal gray. These are the reasons Tony used these colors on his first junior raber. many of you will remember him racing this car at the NDR Championships in Allentown, PA. These colors are effective, but at only about half the value of stress causing colors.

The Los Angeles Raiders, one of the most dominating teams around, use this dominant color scheme in their uniforms. In derby racing competition, the most important colors are those that cause stress. They create confusion and the feeling of being dominated.

The largest drawback when using these color schemes, is that they also affect the inspectors, and officials in the same way.

Of course the most pleasing colors are blue and green, but the most unnoticed color is a cream white. This white has a neutral effect on people, neither pleasant nor stressful. Tony and I knew that his All American car was fast, and had a very good chance to win Tony painted his car white in an attempt to avoid the label as the favorite or 'what inspectors and officials refer to as a "ringer", a term they privately use to describe a very competitive car. A "ringer" is put on the "hoochie coochie" list, for extra curricular examination of possible rule infringements. Tony and I both thought that even though white is not the fastest color, it would be the best color to use in the All American, and hopefully allowing him to spend more time enjoying himself at Derby Camp.

I estimate that Tony's color coordinated scheme was worth an average of about 18 inches

(just a quick example I pulled down from the internet. there are many detailed studies of colors & winning in sports available, if you want to seriously pursue the subject.)

why do you think they went with black shoes? think about it  it makes them run faster

Sorry bro, but that isn't a scientific study, it's a guy making claims based on his assumptions of a soapbox derby race outcome. How does he know that the other drivers were effected by the color and weren't just crappy driver? How does he know the outcome wasn't impact on the car's design rather than the color effect on the competitors? How many runs in a controlled setting did he run?

That isn't a scientific conclusion in the least.

Now there have been studies done that say that color can effect your mood, but out on the football field it's more than likely going to be nil because players are focusing on the play, there is background noise, background colors, etc. I don't think that color of the uniform has anything to do with the success of a team, it's the players and the game plan that make the difference. :wink2:

    Well, this does speak volumes:

    Iowa's visitors locker rooms..
    [IMG] [IMG]

"Iowa’s legendary former coach, Hayden Fry, was a psychology major in college and read that pink can have a calming effect on people (like certain narcotics). But it’s also possible that he just thought it was funny. Some opposing coaches, like Michigan’s Bo Schembechler, hated the pink so much that he had the walls covered when Michigan played there. Gotta love quirky coaches.

When Kinnick was renovated in 2004, the walls got even pinker."

    Friends like2god & Ozzy:
there are available to whoever cares to read them, legitimate studies researching the impact of colors on atheletic competition. I've read through a number of them. if you're really interested, go look them up.

to deny this information & dismiss it summarily as a lark, holds no water with me. I presented a piece I looked up in three minutes on the Internet for Friend cnc 66 @ his request, didn't bother to verify bibliographies or footnotes (didn't think it was necessary), however, it is never the less a valid statement attesting to the veracity of the subject.

I think this is just another unimaginative thread I've posted. It is beyond my comprehention how it has drawn such interest amidst so many currently important football issues. Be it as it may, I could care less what they wore in a game as long as they won. That having been said: there is, as a matter of fact, an indisputable body of work that supports the idea of dominant colors & winning in atheletic competition.
    Go read (if you'd like) & GoFish!

my last post on this thread:
always liked a combination of the Red-Orange or Red-Brown, maybe a Burnt Umber & Navy-Blue as basics, using White, Teal & BattleShip Gray to contrast contrast the uniform.
having said that I must admit:
    1) don't know if these would be considered power/intimidating colors or even in good taste
    2) I think the black shoes were a good start
    3) nothing original in what I said. Parcells & Co. mentioned a probable uniform makeover early on after taking control of the team. could be just down the road before they surprise us with it

Don't mess with the colors. There are enough Red/xxx teams and blue/xxx teams in the league. Our colors are original and help define the team.

There's another thread where Ross says they're not messing with the uni's this year or next year (missed deadlines) so don't expect anything radical at all in the next 2 years.

Tweaks in the unis are fine, but the base colors MUST stay the same.

I actually thought TB should've kept their old orange unis. Their current unis look ok, but it's like they are a different team.

This is my argument for preserving the "originality" of the uniforms.
To suggest to the player who wears it, a tradition, that win or lose, they'll be compared against those before them, as they become part of that tradition. This imo is what should be conveyed, a sense of inclusion that they, as do their uniforms, carry the sublime proclivity or disposition, as those who were never beaten in them.

I can see where you are coming from in this, but i'd like to point out that the US military has gone through many, many uniform changes over its many years. Does this change the connection to the heritage of the men and women who wore the US Military Uniform before them? Is there not a connection between the 18th century Sailor to today's 21st century sailor? Is a Marine any less of a Marine because he doesn't where the same uniform as those back in 1776?
