Remember the tone of threads from yester-year? This was back in 2007. The team was mediocre but everyone was positive and upbeat. I click on today’s threads and I see the same 4 or 5 posters going back and forth, belittling, arguing the exact same things over and over. My grandmother used to tell me if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. There’s nothing wrong with discussions. There nothing wrong with debates but once a point has been made, it’s been made. The going back and forth with such negativity is pointless. I hope everyone reads through the posts in this thread and sees how everyone uses to be positive and upbeat…and also notices, these names are no longer around.
All I’m saying is I would like to see some positivity back in the threads. I miss all of the optimism and good cheer.
If a person has no ability to be objective, rational, or use context that’s not going to happen. Especially if they’re posting on a forum about a team they don’t really root for. I have 4 daughters, to me they’re the most beautiful girls in the world. Fathers of other daughters think their daughters are the most beautiful. However, I don’t think any of my daughters will ever be super models. I’m not going to criticize them for that though. That’s being in love with my kids but also being objective and rational at the same time. Maybe that’s an extreme example of what real fans of sports teams are like, but if they’re not like this, are they really fans? I don’t think so. How can a person root for something they don’t even like?
I'm cool with fans who are pessimistic. It's been a long time since we've been rewarded for having hope. I'm cool with fans who are optimistic, too because we have a lot of good things going on right now. I'm glad we don't have a bunch of people who all have the same opinion because that would be boring. With that being said, we all know there are a lot of posters who only want to crap on the team and/or Chris Grier and/or Tua. I don't like people who have an agenda and refuse to acknowledge when something is clearly a positive or a negative. It's a little much sometimes. Remember the greatest 4th quarter in team history against the Ravens two seasons ago? We actually had posters who complained that had Tua not sucked balls in the first three quarters, the comeback wouldn't have been necessary. There were posters who disappeared for much of the season when we were playing well and returned to celebrate (not hyperbole) when we collapsed late in the year. If you aren't happy when we win - regardless of why we won - and you are happy when we lose, it's because you are not a fan. I choose not to engage with people that can't hold an honest conversation. It's better for my peace of mind and I encourage as many of you as are able to avoid feeding the trolls. Just be aware that it doesn't make you a troll to have a different opinion.
I try to understand fans who are jaded from our past, and I usually become understanding of their anger, but when that bleeds into a new regime, it becomes toxic and un sensible We all have to recalibrate because that’s fair, if we continue to cross over negativity it can imo infiltrate the culture. Now this year it’s a bit different for me personally, your not gonna see me being all positive all the time. It’s the third year of the regime, it’s prove it time for me. I have too many questions for me to be a happy man going into the year.
I couldn’t agree more. It’s even apparent in the offseason. Those same posters that disappeared when we were doing well still lurk. They don’t post though and only did so during the season to complain. Same things are happening now. The site shows these people are lurking, mostly everyday, but aren’t posting because there’s nothing really to complain about. The exception are those that complain about Grier’s draft picks only to also complain about those draft picks being coveted by other teams so much that they got overpriced contracts and leave. It’s always lose-lose for those people. Differing opinions are great as long as those opinions have a semblance of objectivity and rationale. If a person says, “Hey, I’m not sold on extending Tua because of his past injury history”… great! That’s valid. When someone tries to say that Tua isn’t responsible for the team’s offensive successes in the passing game… well, that’s just trolling. When a person completely disregards a once in a lifetime roster dismantling because of injuries… that’s not being objective.
All reasonable. I have questions and concerns. Anyone would, but those are rarely expressed by me because I’m too busy responding to the hyperbole and trolling. Deej, you and I have had differing opinions, but those opinions are typically explained with context and reasonableness. So it’s hard to refute your opinions other than to say, “Yeah, I get it, but what about this”? You and I can go back and forth like that for many posts and never once do I get frustrated or confused about what you’re writing. Why? Because your opinions are well thought out and backed up with facts, reasonable evaluations, and respect.
Dano, I’ll just leave it like this, i have a lot of respect for your character, your fatherhood, your service for our country and your respect for me personally and what I post, you learn a lot about people as the years go by, im finding out that now and its quite dissapointing, but not you man, you have the ability to read peoples character imo through their words and their intentions. Im sure it carries on and into your real life.
This is as good a team as we've had in quite some time. There are things to be skeptical about. But overall I'm enjoying the ride with McDaniel. Mostly positive about where this team is heading and see no reason to harp over the same misgivings we all have about Grier and Ross. Can't wait for the draft to happen so we can upgrade edge, OL, S and WR.
We're going to add some key pieces in the weeks following the draft as well. Miami is a destination spot for free agents and I'd bet money we bring in 3-5 significant contributors between the draft and training camp.
That has little to do with people being more negative now, IMHO, and everything to do with the fact that internet message boards are a dying medium. Most people under 40 are posting or reading on Reddit, TikTok, Twitter or whatever. The people who are left are usually older and more set in their ways--curmudgeons, if you will. And curmudgeons like nothing better than to argue...
But Dan, that ISN'T what you do. Every criticism that I see leveled, you simply explain away and tell everyone why it isn't an issue. Including about injuries.
Nah, that can’t be. You must be delusional Res, a troll, or you simply can’t grasp the greatness we’re seeing right now (stupid).
You think disagreeing with another’s opinion is somehow mean. I’ve agreed with criticism when it’s thoughtful , reasonable, and well intentioned. If you’re expecting me to agree in order to not hurt someone’s feelings then you’ll be waiting a long time.
Hopefully the ball gets rolling well. Don't want to say too much because some troll bot will no doubt drop a stat bomb on me about how rolling balls don't get going when Tua takes snaps out the shotgun on 3rd downs and how Trent Dilfer and Kurt Warner don't agree because the ball isn't actually a football nor is it round. But either way... Hopefully everything is good.
