No, I didnt see it. I thought he was out from my seat, but still yelled at the ump. What about the Bonifacio steal in the first? And were all of those check swings strikes? When he finally called one of those a ball, the stadium went ecstatic.
I was sitting by first base and saw he was safe all the way from there. The umps had their heads up their *** in the second game.
I missed the Bonifacio play, I was away from the TV for a minute so I really can't say. The check swings though....he called about 5 a strike. Two of them were borderline, and three were absolutely not swings. Especially the last one to Uggla and the one to Hanley. I heard how crazy the stadium went, it was nice to hear noise that was actually FOR us. Usually its only that loud when the Yankees come to town.
Nice win last night. I thought Ricky was going to implode again after he allowed two in the first but woah did he really shut them down after that. 115 pitch complete game.
Was talking about this on a Braves board yesterday. I disagree that Uggla should "shut up", because I find it odd that Hanley decides to pull himself from the game (where he was running just fine BTW) after an 0-14 where he is leading the NL in Batting Avg. Nevermind the fact they're playing a Division Rival and in the mix for the Wild Card. You can't tell me that if he's 7 or 8 for his last 14 he comes out of that game. He seems butt-hurt and I don't blame Uggla for his comments. Sometimes guys need to be called out when they're not pulling their weight.
I don't know, Hanley has had some leg problems during the year, plus I never like to question whether someone is really hurt or not unless it's obvious they're not. Plus who's Dan Uggla to be calling Hanley out like that anyway, especially in front of the media? If Uggla really had a problem with Hanley or thought he was dogging it he should have pulled Hanley into the training room (where media members are not allowed to go) and question him there. I never like players airing out their dirty laundry in front of people that have no business hearing it. I agree that sometimes guys need to be called out but it should be done in private. Plus it's hard to get on a guy when he's leading the league in hitting and is the 2nd most valuable player in the NL this year.
How is Hanley not pulling his weight??? Now, Uggla??, hello Pot, this is Kettle, I am returning your call!! Talk about the man in the mirror complex. Uggla should spend time looking there if he wants to have a stern conversation.
For Uggla to call him out (in front of media) it leads me to believe there are some hustle/effort issues involved. I know Uggla was quoted as saying that Hanley doesn't seem to care about winning now that he has a $70 Million contract.
Yeah but the thing is, whether he cares or not Hanely has done more to help this team win than Uggla. Dan should learn to not strike out every time there are runners on base, and to hit a home run when it actually matters. THEN talk.
Well, it seems obvious it needed to be said. I've never heard Uggla say anything like this in the press as he seems to be a pretty resevered guy. For him to speak out leads me to believe he wasn't alone in thinking that way about Hanley. I agree it should've been behind closed doors, but Uggla's numbers (or lack thereof) shouldn't disqualify him from taking Hanley to task if he feels enough effort isn't being put forth. I realize Hanley has been reliable throughout his career, but he does seem to have a case of vaginitas. His "10%" and "my teammates are mad at me" comments were ridiculous. They also showed him countless times last night alone, at the far end of the dugout.
That is true. I guess my point is in baseball you either produce or you don't. Hanely produces in EVERY situation. I don't see how he "isn't trying to win" it's not like he got his paycheck and is hitting .270 this year. You can be disliked by everyone on your team and still be good for them. Baseball isnt as much of a team sport as others.
I'll agree with that. And "not trying" were Uggla's words, not mine. I think HR is a great player and would love to have him on the Braves. However, if Uggla's assertion that Hanley is a "me first" player who only cares about his stats is correct, then he needs a stern talking to - for his sake and the team's.
Don't count us out of the division yet. We come into the game 5 back, but have 6 games remaining against the Phillies.

josh johnson signs extension with the marlins: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/sources-josh-johnson-signs-extension-with-florida-marlins
There is a Marlins thread! Was looking all over for it. Glad to see we extended Johnson, but I'm not glad that it occurred because the MLB front office basically ordered Loria to start spending money. Well, I guess we should be glad money's being spent regardless... though Johnson and also Hanley have contracts that are low enough to be attractive trade options, should it come to that.
The Marlins and 2B Dan Uggla avoided arbitration Monday by agreeing to a one-year, $7.8 million contract. It's a nice raise from the $5.35 million that Uggla earned in 2009. The 29-year-old hit .243/.354/.459 last year with 31 homers and 90 RBI, and will again serve as the Marlins' starting second baseman in 2010.
Uggla could be trade bait seeing as he's been rumored to be on the block the last two seasons. However I dont see Johnson going.
