Today, and I'm terrified. I have no idea why. I've had teeth pulled before, while awake, no problemo. Just a bit of novacaine, some pushing, some pulling, and I went home. Today will be the first day I've gone under with gas and an IV sedative. And I'm a nervous wreck. Novacaine shots I'm used to. Putting on a friggin mask I'm not. I think I'm freaking myself out unnecessarily but what else can I do except think about it. Argghhh.
not to make you feel worse... But when I got in the Navy, they decided to pull out all 4 of mine in a single surgery. HOLY MOTHER OF HELL. It was agonizing after wards. They put me to sleep during the procedure... But the recovery sucked ***.
Yeah I'm going under nitrous first, then IV after I'm calmed down by the nitrous I guess. mor, ouch! Yeah I'm expecting the recovery to suck. But I'm more nervous about the lead up to it. I'm the type of guy who gets freaked the eff out when going to an amusement park and leading up to that first climb up the first ride. I'm neurotic by nature and dwell on crap too long. But after that first drop, I'm cool. I think it's the lack of familiarity with the nitrous and IV and all that. Once it's done it's done, but I'm just being a nancy for now until I go under in 4 hours.
Don't sweat going under. I've gone under for surgeries a total of 20 times and aside of a little stomach upset when you first wake you should be just fine after a few hours. Good luck.
My God it hurts! It's the worst pain you could ever imagine. Even though you're 'under' you can hear them talking and feel the yanking during the procedure. The pain is there, and it's awful, you can feel it, you just don't care about it. I would rather be branded while sober than go through that again. Good luck. Just kidding. I had mine done with only Novocaine and it wasn't a big deal, in fact I was back at work the next day with only a little swelling and a minor amount of pain that two Tylenol fixed. The Vicuprofin they sent me was used for recreational purposes only.
I was the same when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. They did the two on top and two on the bottom. It wasn't too bad, but like Mor said, the recovery was rough. I think they gave me too much because I spent the entire next day throwing up in a bucket. My mouth didn't hurt, but I never felt so sick in my life.
Any doctors or dentists here (or anyone who has had IV sedation) know if you start babbling about your life secrets? my gf is taking me and um, there are things she doesn't need to know about me. Someone was messing around talking about you're going to be under still but awake, then you start confessing all your sins. I don't need any of that! Lol.
I've got 2 more I've been putting off on getting yanked. I got one see done in the army, which wasn't too bad. But be aware. In all seriousness, there are some people that have smaller mouths have to get their jaw dislocated so the dentist can back there to the teeth. Hopefully your mouth is a little bigger. Yeah, they kind of scared me a little bit with the pain pills, so I took one at the beginning just in case but really didn't need it and didn't take any more. I was back at it the next day.
T-Minus one hour. Yeah i got 30 vicodins which a lot of people seem to like for rec purposes but I must admit, I've taken it before and get no rec purposes out of it, so definitely will be just for pain if any. If advil or tylenol can take care of it, that's what I'll take.
see, if you we had free healthcare you wouldn't have this problem as they would keep delaying your surgery. Think about it.
You were just having premonitions about the two big earthquakes that occurred 3 hours after your post onthe other side of the world. You're a psychic who just needs his ability trained. You weren't really worried about the surgery at all.
i know it's too late, but you'll be fine. while i haven't had mine out (yet, i'm planning the surgery atm) i've been under a few times. i only got sick once after, and its always fun going under. i'm very amused by medical things, so it was fun for me. in fact, during surgery on ym finger, i remember waking up and leaning up on the bed and asking if i could watch the procedure. they said no, someone reached over and turned a dial, and i don't remember anything else. good luck bro
It went smooth as hell. I was a nervious wreck leading up to it. Doc puts a tiny mask over my nose, breath in breath out, wax on wax off. Wasn't falling asleep though. Then he puts the IV in (I thought he was going to wait). He asks me whats going on, I say still awake doc. Then my whole body gets numb and tingly then I wake up. Really that's all. I hear stories about how great the high was afterwards, and I am not one to turn down a good legit high. But alas, no high. I was actually quite awake after, no mumbo jumbo. I can't keep my eyes open now but all in all no problem. Thanks for all the support fellas especially with me starting a whiney nancy thread. Yall helped a lot man.
My dad told me that he wasnt able to eat for a while after he got all 4 taken out, he thought it would be easier that way.
Dude just watch out for the dry sockets now. No straws or cigarettes or anything else that is sucked, and keep the area free of larger food particles when you start eating again.
Next stop, go see the OB/GYN ya Mary! I ate mushy fruity pebbles for the first two days....and I smoked...but I got lucky on the dry socket. Salt water gargles sucked.
Glad it all worked out for you bro. I had all four of mine taken out by a navy dentist in 45 minutes. Milkshakes will be your best friend for a few days. Also make sure you put a towel or piece of plastic on your pillow.
It was mixed. Yeah I hear about the dry socket. I hope I don't get that, I accidentally spit a couple times, not major spits, just tiny ones while gargling before I caught myself. I'll keep an eye on the symptoms though.
so you fell asleep, then woke up and found out the doctor had reattached your nuts. Good for you son.
It's not that big of a deal. I had major wisdom teeth surgery. My four wisdom teeth were all severely impacted. They put me under and the surgery took 2 hours. It was only painful for a short time. A nice prescription of percocet took care of the rest.
