IMO Otis doesn't get the accolades he deserves. He is always adding young talent with potential. He stays away from those cap killing old timers. Often he replaces the talent that leaves with better players.

It makes sense for both parties. I can see where Gortat is coming from and I can also see where the Magic found it very important to resign him. He's realistic and he knows he not going to start in Orlando any time soon, nor is he going to get a huge chunk of minutes.

Hes getting almost 7 million a year from us, hes going to see a good chunck of minutes, my guess would be him and Bass would share minutes at PF, while Gortat also backing up Dwight.

Why is Gortat dissapointed? He will get at least 20 to 25 mins of playing time a night.

He was probably going to win the job over Eric Dampiera (not a typo ;)). That's not going to happen in Orlando.

That was my thinking. He had a real shot at actually becoming a starter for the Mavs. He has no shot whatsoever at that with the Magic.

He is still going to get good minutes at the 4 and at the 5 when Howard sits. And he's making 7 mill per year! That's alot of money.

Honestly, I doubt Orlando keeps him for more than one year. I could see him being traded mid season.

Will throwing all this money at Gortat and Bass destroy our chances of the future? Because it doesn't really look like were spending wisely.

We didn't throw money at Bass. He received an 18 million dollar contract. If you ask me, that's is a great contract for a 24 year old PF with potential.
As for Gortat, I really doubt we keep him for the full 5 years. It wouldn't suprise me if he was traded next summer.

I hope SVG puts him and Howard in at the same time.

They can't trade him until after Dec 15th. I'm sure early on they play him alot and let his stock grow. Then trade him for a missing piece and Championship run.

with whats going on with Odom, anyone else think it might of been wise to get in contact with him rather then signing Gortat to a deal like that? i know Gortat is younger, has trade value, and can play more of a true center role, but Odom would be a great compliment to Howard and Rashard at 4.

of course we cant now, but LA was offering Odom less then what we gave Gortat. instead of offering 7 million year, we could of offered Odom 8/year and signed Odom.

? LA has offered around 8.5m/year last I heard(he wants 10). Also, the prevailing logic here is that Orlando is planning to move Gortat if we get a decent offer. I can't see us paying that kind of money for a backup for dwight over an extended period of time.

Also, Matt Barnes has narrowed dow his choices to Mavs, Magics and Cavs.

Matt Barnes would be a great pickup for you guys. I've been a fan of his sort of like a poor man's James Posey ever since Golden State's surprising playoff run a few years back. He's a solid defender who can knock down the open three and does all of the little stuff to get the job done... definitely the type of option you'd like coming off the bench in the playoffs for your team.

And I did read somewhere on RealGM (thread on the general board) that he's expected to sign with Orlando, but this was a few days ago.

    EDIT: http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=928186
(Sorry. The topic starter links to a Hoopsworld article. They are the definition of premature based on rumors)

Wow! Watson, Pietrus, Barnes, Anderson and Gortat off the bench! Add that to a starting lineup of Nelson, Carter, Lewis, Bass and Howard, we HAVE to be the favorites to win the East.

There's no Ben Gordon there, but Barnes, Gortat and Anderson are decent scorers on a per minute basis.

Not one of those guys can take 30% of a unit's scoring load. The very definition of bench scoring.

In barnes and Pietrus you have redundancy.

I would have picked up a Flip Murray instead.....and I am a big Matt Barnes fan. Just doesn't make sense for Orlando.
