It's a good thing that this is MMA and not boxing then. I like Mir and I think his story coming back from that motorcycle accident is great. Beating Lesnar would be the icing on the cake.
My point is that Alves has beaten many good wrestlers. If you're not impressed with Hughes then how about his wins over wrestling/grappling guys like Koscheck and Parisyan?
I'm not saying I wasn't impressed. He's looked damn good lately. I'm saying that GSP's loss to Hughes 5 years ago is irrelevant.
Hell yea. We actually have a bar down the street that charges $10 a person but you get free pizza and wings. Needless to say, we put a hurting on that deal.
Obviously powerful, but he does move well for a huge guy. Here's the first fight: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgXJaVG-hU4"]YouTube - brock lesnar vs frank mir - crazy tapout[/ame]
I'll be pulling for Mir, Alves, and Hendo. I think alot of people under-estimate Mir's standup, even after his technical beatdown of Nog. Not to mention he has been training with some of the top BJJ and striking coaches in the game in preparation for this fight. Can't wait to see Alves/GSP, should be a great one. Alves is a beast. Should be interesting to see which GSP shows up. As for the Hendo/Bisping fight, I just hate Bisping so I'm rooting for Hendo by default.
Only because Brock knocked him to the mat and was stupid enough to get close to him. Do yuo think Brock will make the same mistake twice? I would say Mir would be an idiot to play to Lesnar's strengths. He needs to work his legs maybe throw some feints. If Mir can tire him out Mir should win this fight.
Yea, I do. It's not like Mir only knows one submission. People underestimate how good his jujitsu game is.
First time ever i won't steal a UFC event from the internet (if police is reading this, its false, order all my ppvs :P) right after work. i get out at 930 and there is a bar 10 minutes away from my work. so works out perfectly Ill be rooting for Mir, but wont be suprised if Lesnar will get him.
so long as Dan Henderson pummels Michael Bisping, i can live with any outcome in the other fights. i am guessing Mir and Thiago win though.
I am not dhrugging him off at all just saying that Brock was much more prepared for fighting in MMA than Lashley. Lashley will get there at sometime but he will need to work his tail off and become much better on the ground and striking. Drawing power yeah and thats huge but he would never have got a shot in the UFC if he could not fight. Brock has looked good in all his matches and looked incredible in his lone loss ( to frank Mir )
Brock moves about as well as anyone can at his size. He will never be a lightning speed but he is fast for his size. I am really pulling for Bisping
I hate people who schedule **** like this during events. It seems someone always wants to get married during college football season.
lol Did anyone see the countdown special to this fight? Hilarious. Lesnar watches the last fight again and gets all pissed off. Complains about Mazaghatti not stopping it fast enough, then rips off his mic and punches a wall lol. Big baby. For the record, Mazaghatti is a really bad referee.
Agree. I don't know how Mazaghatti didn't stop it when he first started banging (tapping) on Mir. He was right there squatted down facing Lesnar, staring at them. I guess he was waiting to see if Mir could actually snap Brock's leg. OT: Mazaghatti was a subpar ref even before Dana's words got out. It seemed like if there was an accidental stoppage, an "oops, keep fighting", an "oops, changed my mind. I'm actually not stopping the fight", etc., it was always him.
Not to mention that he took a point from Lesnar without one word of warning! Lesnar was raining hammerfists to Mir's face, Mir rolls over for a sweep, a couple land toward the back of his head, and Mazzagatti calls time and deducts a point. I can't recall a ref taking points without verbally warning a guy first. Complete bias on his part, deplorable. The UFC really needs to bring back Big John. What better time to do it than UFC 100?
ufc has nothing to do with refs......its the state commissions choice........and last i heard big john doesnt have his license in nevada anymore
He did land quite a few to Mir's head the whole time they were on the ground. I didn't hear him give a warning but it is possible he did and we didn't hear it over the commentating. It's messed up if he didn't though.
mine are: fitch- unanimous decision henderson over bisping - 2nd rd ko alves over gsp- 1st round tko lesnar over mir- 3rd round tko
Dang I didnt know the Tap-Out dude died??? http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/alltherage/2009/03/tapout-founder.html
Damn. Dissappointment does not begin to explain that card. I'll star with the good: Henderson/Bisping: Henderson came out looking like he lived in the gym for 2 months. Bisping came out looking more scared than I've ever seen him. Henderson was patient and connected with a lights out punch that knocked Bisping unconcious before he hit the mat. The 2nd punch when Bisping was on the ground was down right brutal, but I'll get over it. Bravo Dan. (Dumb and Dumber voice) "You've totally redeemed yourself!" Side note: How much scarier does Anderson Silva look to you now? The ****ty: Alves/St. Pierre: As an Alves fan, from the second that Alves completely wiffed on that 1st leg kick, I knew he was in deep ****. GSP almost completely dominated this fight. Alves' biggest problem was his hesitation. He played the waiting game and tried to get technical with the most technical fighter in the sport, not smart. I expected Alves to come out with that killer instinct and force GSP into a standup brawl. Never happened. GSP took Alves down almost at will. To Alves credit, he did pull off many excellent escapes, but his striking game was almost completely neutralized. Ouch. Lesnar/Mir: Another painful bout. Mir looked really good standing up. I would argue that he won the standup portions of the fight with a much more heavy (and handed) opponent. The downside: Did anyone ever tell Frank Mir that he should probably cover up when Lesnar had him pinned against the cage? I couldn't believe that he let Lesnar swing away at him and he refused to cover his head until the very end. That was just plain stupid. So now, we have the WWE champion in the UFC. ****!!!. As soon as the match was over, a nerd rallying cry was heard throughout the bar, and shouts of "O look that's Sable" rang out to add insult to nerdery. Ugh, It looks like I'm going to hate the heavyweight division for quite some time. I wouldn't mind Brock that much, but the fact that he outweighs almost every legit opponent by almost 20lbs makes his fights a joke, IMO. Find someone who has equal size or don't have the bout. ****, when does Anderson Silva fight again?
Tim Sylvia is bigger than him, and also had to cut weight to make it. Yet nobody complained then. Would you really want to watch that fight? So it's his and/or the UFC's fault that he's a one-in-a-generation specimen? Who else is he supposed to fight? Basically you're upset because nobody can **** with him? The fact that he's a monster shouldn't exclude him from fighting.
i love the "hes too big" bull**** now. so jake long shouldnt play LT cause hes too big? no. defenses will try to get past him with speed, and smarts.....like someone will try to do with lesnar..... he made weight.....265....alot of guys fight heavier than they weigh in. its so funny how the wwe thing gets brought up also.....when no one mentions hes a world class amateur wrestler as well. lesnar haters keep hating.....haha
Tim Sylvia is a ****ing joke. If you're really suggesting him as a good fight for anyone then I have to wonder. I always thought the heavyweight division being unlimited made no sense. I was a wrestler in HS and it made no sense to me then. I'm not faulting Brock Lesnar bc he's that big. I'm faulting the legitimacy bc in any other weightclass it's agreed that having any more mass than your opponent presents a distinct advantage. Somehow that means nothin in the heavyweight division? I don't hate Brock. I hate his WWF fans and the unclear advantage that the UFC allows him to maintain.
The football comparison is irrelevent. The NFL has no size regulations of any kind. Until I see Lesnar fight someone who's his size, I won't give him any recognition. And I'm not talking someone that had to bulk up 15-20lbs to meet his size.
