The reason 2010 is hot is because there are "max" players that are being nickle and dimed by their home teams. Bosh, Amare, Joe Johnson, Boozer, etc...

Boozer and Amare have been told outright that they are being unreasonable with their demands.

Not true. They were 14-15 with Brand and 27-26 without him. That's statistically insignificant. The benefit to Brand's departure, however, was that it allowed Thaddeus Young to develop a bit more quickly than he might have otherwise. Young really took off after Brand went down, and in March and April he was outstanding.

I agree. I will believe that Wade and/or LeBron are leaving when I see it. The 2010 market will be hot, with all that talent, but it's being portrayed as the Summer of LeBron and Wade, probably unfairly.

You're right, good call. Orlando actually offered Shaq $6M less than the Lakers over the life of the contract. So, unless I'm horribly mistaken, no player has turned down a max contract from his own team to sign elsewhere. Kobe was the closest; he was close to taking the Clippers money, but didn't, obviously.

Bosh and James are a more likely combo though if rumors flying around are correct.

Hey if we get Amare and Bosh or Dirk Ill be quite happy. The cap room should be there for 2 max players.

    Per Rotoworld:

Nuggets resigned Chris Anderson: 5/26M...Varejao is looking for something slightly more I believe and is close on his extension.

Knicks have made a contract offer to Grant Hill. Potentially a good character signing for the Knicks. Gives them a quality vet to lean on and who makes good decisions with the ball:

The Knicks have offered Grant Hill the option of signing a one-year contract worth $5 million, or a three-year contract worth $10 million, according to the Arizona Republic.
Hill is also being pursued by the Suns, Nuggets, and Celtics, but New York might have an edge because of his relationship with Mike D'Antoni and his wife's preference for the big city.
    Source: Arizona Republic

AI wants to join Wade in Miami:
Allen Iverson said on Tuesday that he feels playing in Miami would be a "great situation", and mentioned that he's open to signing a one-year contract.
Dwyane Wade has publicly lobbied the Heat to add another playmaker, but Pat Riley's financial restraint has limited their activity in the free agent market. A.I.'s desire to play alongside Wade is helpful, but he would probably have to accept a one-year deal at less than the mid-level exception. He has also expressed interest in the Grizzlies and Bobcats.

I like the Lakers a lot too, but after being in college in the area, and after school for a bit, I have come to like them as well.

And I just think Varajao suck, so even if I wasn't a Cavs fan I wouldn't want to see him get big money.

5/26 isn't bad for Varejao. With a Shaq/Ilgauskas combo at center, and LBJ and Mo Williams on the court, the Cavs can afford Varejao's near-complete lack of offense. He's a defensive demon, and with a pair of slow-*** centers, they badly need an active 4 like him.

As a Pistons fan, I would love to see AI in Miami.

Yeah, yeah, the line forms behind Section126 and Desides.

I think that's a pretty fair comparison. AV isn't the on-ball defender that Rodman was, but there's no shame in that. Rodman in his prime was probably the best defender I've ever seen. Nor does he have Rodman's passing skill (easily the most underrated part of The Worm's game). But yes, plenty of energy, hustle, and ability to guard a number of positions while getting under an opponent's skin.

AI off the bench here in Miami would be a godsend. Playing AI alongside Wade down the stretch in games would also be great.

be careful what you wish for.

I love the addition if it happens.....especially for a 1 year less than MLE deal.

If I had a dollar for everytime some heat fan turned to me during games this year and said....Damn it...we have No scoring from our guards when Wade goes to the bench...we need...".....".

    well?

This year we played for a while the deadly Luther Head alongside Wade in the 4th quarter of games. Luther head or AI...you decide. it would also hook up our small lineup...and be insurance when Daquan pulls his dissapearing act.

Against Atlanta...Daquan looked like Gilbert Arenas in game 2...then proceeded to get on a milk carton.

we beat atlanta guaranteed with AI on board. good move if it happens.

Keep dreaming if you think AI will want to come off the bench. And I dont see how you can honestly think you can have AI and Wade on the court together. They both need the ball.

    ahh...nope.

they both don;t need the "ball".

MO Williams and Lebron need the ball. Pau and Kobe need the ball...Arenas and Jamison and Curon need the ball. Amare and Nash need the ball...etc..etc...

I guess Miami is the only team in history that isn;t allowed to play two good scorers on the court at the same time.

and AI will have to come off the bench here.

Riley has already said that Chalmers starts at the 1..and Wade does not play the 3.

we are the Heat...we are experts at making "malcontents" do what we tell them to do.

Tell me how a Jason Williams and Antoine Walker timebomb is gonna tear apart the team again..........hmmmm...

LOL, horrible. He is worth maybe 3/5ths of that.

ESPN.com is reporting that the Cavaliers have come to an agreement with free agent forward Anderson Varejao on a six-year, $50 million dollar deal.
Varejao may very well be the starting power forward for the Cavs now that Ben Wallace is finally gone. He has limited offensive potential, but could average nine or 10 rebounds and flirt with more than a block per game this season.
    Source: ESPN.com

Cavs are linked to Anthony Parker, Pistons to Big Baby Davis, and Celtics possibly signing Hill with the hold up being Hill wants to be a starter.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Shawn Marion will soon be traded to the Mavericks for Jerry Stackhouse.
Stackhouse will go to the Raptors, but will then likely be shipped to the Grizzlies, where he'll be bought out and free to sign with any team. Marion is a huge acquisition for the Mavericks, who will now have a potential starting lineup of Marcin Gortat, Dirk Nowitzki and Marion on the front line, with Josh Howard and Jason Kidd in the backcourt. Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Jason Terry would likely continue to come off the bench. The deal should be finalized on Thursday or Friday.

Iverson and Randolph on one team? Wow, Gay, Marc Gasol and Mayo may as well not even come up the court since they arent seeing the ball. And what would become of Mike Conley who was playing well after the ASB under Ivaroni?

Well, Mcdyess to SA and Wallace to Boston. Sucks. Orlando has to sign Bass and match Gortats offer. Bringing them two back would be excellent, IMO.

And I doubt A.I would mind coming off the bench. But if he does, good acquisiton for the Heat.

  32. phunwin

I can't wait. That's going to be fantastic theater. Would Iverson have his posse beat up Randolph for hogging the ball? Would Randolph get tired of the little man screaming at him and just eat him one day? I love it. I also love how transparently indifferent the Grizzlies are to the actual development of their players, and instead are thinking "hey, AI sells tickets, and our team doesn't".

Heat fans should view this as a blessing. Iverson would be okay with coming off the bench for...oh, about a week. Then he'd demand a starting role and sulk when he didn't get it, probably saying something like "Mario Chalmers? We talkin' 'bout Mario Chalmers?!?"

Yuck. I liked the idea of a 5/26 contract, as was bandied about earlier. 6/50 is excessive. If Varejao can develop even a modest semblance of an offensive game, maybe it won't be a terrible contract. His 15' jumper has been adequate at times.

Please, Joe, I'm begging you, pass on Davis.

I think Stack might retire. He's been injured a ton the last several years, and is the type of player whose game does not age gracefully. If he hasn't seriously considered retirement, he should. I don't think he could help a contending team at this point.

  38. phunwin

phunwin Happy kids are Dolfans. Luxury Box

I don't know if it's finalized yet, but here's the report from ESPN on who gets what:
Mavs - Marion, Greg Buckner and Kris Humphries
Raps - Turkoglu, Devean George and Antoine Wright
Grizzlies - Crackhouse, Quincy Douby and cash
    Magic - ~$7M trade exception

Everyone wins. The Mavs get Marion, of course and I think a little financial flexibility. The Raps get Turk, as they would have, but they preserve their MLE now and don't have to renounce Carlos Delfino. The Magic get a trade exception that they can use to get some talent, rather than letting Turk walk for nothing. The Griz get...cash, I guess. I find it hard to believe that someone doesn't throw them a draft pick or something for facilitating this thing. Or they think Quincy Douby is a can play, something that is supported by pretty much no evidence at all.

According to Newsday, Lee and Robinson are leaning towards taking the Knicks qualifying offers of 2.7M (Lee) and 2.9M (Robinson). Neither has received a substantial offer from another team. Under that scenario the NYK would retain their Bird rights and still be able to offer them more money then anyone else next year when they are unrestricted FA's.
