I think Dallas would take a bag full of toe jam with a box of belly button lint to be named later for Dampier right now. He's due $23.1M over the next two years, so Dallas would have to take a bad contract back. A Rip Hamilton for Dampier trade wouldn't be entirely crazy, actually. The Mavs need a shooting guard (unless you believe the JJ Barea/Antoine Wright/James Singleton trifecta is going to get it done); the Pistons need some beef. Hamilton's obviously the better player, but his deal is one year longer.
They play Terry at the 2...adding Rip would mean that Rip would never see the court in crunch time since they will not play Howard at the 4 (not suicidal) Bad fit IMO. BTW...JJ barea was one helluva backup PG last year.
CBS SPORTSLINE: Chicago Bulls want to revisit Ben Gordon's departure and wish to work out a sign and trade with the Pistons to bring Alen Iverson to Chicago. Is that even legal?
Excellent article on Arviz/Artest and LA. Oops. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-artestkobe070309&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Kind of reminds me of when my Wizards (then bullets) "revisited" the Juwan Howard contract after Miami signed him, but they did 'prove' some kind of tampering, I think the same would be true here.
Hedo wanted a longer contract. He is probably fully aware that he won't be able to live up to the length in terms of production quality, so he is trying to get what he can while hes a relatively hot commodity. Also, his agent was disputing the 3-36m report, for what its worth.
Maybe he wont beable to live up to it with Portland but SVG knew how to use Hedo and used him perfectly if I say so myself.
Well they have contacted his agent. Turkoglu has verbally committed to Portland while NO is shopping Tyson again.
Im not taking this stance. I think Sheed is a great fit for our team, but I now have doubts in his will to play quality & quantity minutes. Why is Boston even a possible destination for this perennial all-star? I would love to have a Sheed who can play at a high level, but it raises serious questions about him if he is seeking the full MLE(maybe more) price tag along with possibly looking to come off the bench. Remember too, that Sheed already has a ring - so the mantra about him being hungry for a championship doesn't quite fit with him as it did with Ray Allen & Kevin Garnett. I think it wouldn't be a bad thing at all if we ended up moving towards Brandon Bass. While he doesn't fit the mold of "surrounding dwight with 3 point shooters" in the way that Sheed does, his youth along with his eagerness to carve a name for himself in the league- and the fact that he is a strong, true PF makes me think that could be the best avenue for the Magic. If we could save some of the MLE by grabbing him up, it would allow us more comfort in shoring up the rest of our currently thin roster. I would like to see a backup PG acquired & a replacement for Gortat, along with a veteran Forward - maybe Grant Hill. By acquiring Sheed, it makes these actions more difficult.
I don't agree with that part. Just because you have one ring doesnt mean you can't be hungry to win as many as possible.
I think letting Hedo go and bringing in Vince Carter proved that we might be going away from that a little. I mean we all must agree Hedo is a lot better 3 point shooter than VC.
I highlighted the fact that he already has a ring, and this does not make him the hungry veteran that Ray Allen & KG were when they went to Boston. There's no debate to be had there... What I did not say, is that he's not hungry for a championship at all.....
unless Hedo lost his shot, hes still a better 3 point shooter then Vince. last year was the exception. the last year Hedo had where he shot that bad from 3 was his rookie year. where as last year Vince had his best year beyond the 3 line in 4 years...
Their career % are nearly identical. I also feel that last season's numbers are important, as both players are over 30 years of age. -Also, Hedo's numbers being down from 07-08 are not a good thing...
thats not always the best indicator. Vince was a pretty good 3 point shooter early in his career. since the 03-04 season Hedos % is 39 where as Vinces is 37. not a huge difference, but still shows Hedo is the better 3 point shooter. and thats with last years stats factored in.
meaning what? of course its not a good thing, but the question is, is it real or not? Vince shot over 40% one year and then dipped to 34% the year after, obviously his career is still going strong. like i said, his % last year was the 2nd worst of his career only being better then his rookie season.
Fact- Hedo's numbers are down across the board from a year ago Fact- The same cannot be said about Vince Fact- Both over 30 years old, the gas tank is not being filled in either case...but being emptied. I don't want the guy running lower on fuel.
Fact- i never said i would rather have Hedo then Vince. ive never been as big of a Hedo fan as most of the Magic fans, but to say Vince is a better 3P shooter at this point in their careers based on this past season only is False and not a good arguement at all.
It's actually completely based on statistics. When discussing a veteran's ability to help a team out, its most relevant to look at what they have done most recently. The fact remains, Hedo is on the decline. It's part of the reasoning I feel that he wanted a longer term deal.
obviously, and im not trying to say its a benefit. like i said in my very first post of this discussion, UNLESS HE HAS LOST HIS SHOT, meaning, unless Hedo just all the sudden lost his shot and will never recover it, hes a better 3P shooter. now theres always a chance hes done, but considering he is only 30, lets not act as if hes late 30s here. from 29 to 31 Vince shot just over 35% from 3 land(which by the way Hedo was better with his .356 last year), but he came back pretty strong at the age of 32 to shoot .385.
again, you stating Hedo is on the decline as a fact when infact it is not a proven fact as of today. its your opinion. if one season could make it a fact someone was on the decline, half the league(including Vince) would be on the decline every other year....

http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/david_aldridge/07/02/artest.lakers/ He drains 3's by the hundreds, and if HE were here, he'd consume the Lakers with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse!
Hedo's good but he's not worth getting into a bidding war over, I think the Magic did the right thing.
Jeez, so many offseason moves already. Possibly Gordon back to Detroit, Iverson possibly to the Bulls, Wallace possibly to Boston, (old news), Glu goes to Toronto, not sure what Jason Kidd is doing, back to Dallas or headed to NY for sure.

If they don't keep Anthony Parker and Carlos Delfino, they don't have to. But If they do, we're getting someone.
