I agree; he's absolutely strayed farther from the hoop as he's gotten older. In fact, I think I said that in my post, albeit in different words. Carter should be driving the lane and drawing 8+ free throws per night, and complementing that with his jumper. Instead, he's a jump shooter who drives the lane if he's being covered by a smaller, weaker defender and has a relatively clear path.

So he should be a better player than he is. But what he is is still pretty good. He's an excellent three point shooter, giving him something in common with pretty much everyone on the Magic but Dwight Howard, and fits in nicely with that offense.

No bet on the shots thing, though. VC took 250 shots more than anyone on the Magic last year. He might well lead that team in shots, but again, I don't think that's a terrible thing. He's a very good jump shooter. His numbers last year were pretty similar to Rashard Lewis.

If the Cavs get Artest...where does he play?

He is a 3 and cannot play the 2. he can play the 4 in a small lineup..as can lebron.

Lebron is a 3. If he moves to the 2..he will be in foul trouble guarding 2's in the east.

    it makes NO sense.

    bad fit IMO.

He is not athletic but he isnt that slow for a 4. He just doesnt go full speed often, especially on defense. And on offense he can be a bit of a black hole when he gets the ball. He's an excellent passer when he chooses to pass but like the rest of his game he has to be prodded and poked to get him to do it.

i think for the most part, Lebron would be a 2 on offense, and Artest would be a 2 on defense. i think it would be a great move for cleveland...

Ya thats what the cavs are worrying about, defensive assignments after being the top defensive team last year. This is strictly about taking some of the offensive load off Lebron's shoulders.

Rubio staying in Spain for two years. Official.

Recently heard a rumour that the reason they are pursuing him is to play LeBron at the four. I'm assuming they want to spread the floor but I think they would struggle with rebounding.

After being too slow to guard the pick and roll....then get slower...yeah..that would be EXACTLY what they should be worrying about.

that would make more sense...but SHAQ doesn;t rebound anymore....or should I say..he rebounds every 5th game now....

so they would hurt badly in the rebounding department.

What Alen1 says sounds right. Lebron could play the 4 and Artest could play the 3. Still, The best thing for them, IMO, is to sign Rasheed Wallace.

And on Ricky Rubio, is he still on the trade market? Or are they just going to keep him?

Getting artest will make their defense better on the perimeter. Artest is better at getting through the pick and roll then the cavs previous assortment of mediocrity. They needed to get tougher and stronger and clearly thats what the Shaq and Artest acquisitions would be about.

If they see its not a fit they could always turn around and deal them at the deadline and get a piece that does fit. Personally I think it will work just fine. :wink2:

If he plays the 4...he would be much easier to just foul all game and get out of the game.

    he won't last the season.

he won;t be playing charmin soft 6'6 PF's from europe like in the Olympics.

he would also get pissed on by every decent offensive PF in the East.

Sac, and then Houston was a switch team..so Artest has not banged a P&R since his Indiana days.

    I hate the fit.

Kahn has said that they would wait on Rubio but there were reported discussions between the Timberwolves and the Knicks about Rubio and the discussions fell through because the Timberwolves asked the Knicks to take on a bad contract and they said absolutely not because of their 2010 plans. However, what I have read is that they have basically moved on from Rubio for now and have turned their attention to Jason Kidd. I know the Mavericks are expected to offer 3 years / 15 million to Kidd while the Knicks are also expecting to offer the same in terms of years. I'm thinking around eighteen million for Kidd.

As per 790 the ticket: Miami Herald reports:

Miami Heat will offer the MLE to Ron Artest and attempt to Add Alen Iverson to a 1 year deal.

That means Udonis Haslem is a goner in 2010. But we still can add a MAX.

That's real interesting, specifically about Allen Iverson. The reason is because a few hours ago, there were reports that said he was very interested in joining the Grizzlies.

EDIT: Also, rumors say that the Pistons are heavily going to go after Glenn Davis.

    Here is the story.

790 also says that they are IN negotiations with Iverson...and are in preliminary stages with Artest.

A guard rotation of Chalmers/Wade/Iverson/Cook is one mean one....if Chalmers develops into what we think he will develop into...wow.

The rumor here has Kidd meeting with the Knicks a couple of times this week but that Cuban flew to NY and offered Kidd 3yrs at 9M per. That would be more then the Knicks could offer and ruin their 2010 plans. It would however bring the Knicks instant credibility as Kidd has a knack for making his teammates better.

Also it looks like the Knicks will be able to retain Nate Robinson as he seems on the brink of accepting the NYK's qualifying offer of 1yr/2.6M. I believe the Knicks retain the Larry Bird rights on him for next year if he takes the qualifying offer. Hopefully Lee does the same or they dump Lee with curry for an expiring/picks.

Not sure what to make of that rotation. Iverson wants to start so he's going to be the one or the two there. I would think the Heat would keep him at the two, allowing Chalmers to stay at the one and keep on developing. Wade slides over to the three so does that leave Beasley starting at the four with Haslem coming off the bench? Or the other way around?

I love Iverson but he's going to get his shots and I don't know how well that's going to work with Iverson and Wade.

This doesn't relate to this topic but man the Jazz got really screwed over when Okur and Boozer came back. They really want to keep Millsap and now are going to be limited. I heard that they were going to explore trading Boozer with a lot of the media saying Detroit would be the first team to go after him but I don't know how realistic that is now that they have Villanueva locked up for $40M at the 4 spot. Further, Millsap is apparently being heavily courted by the Thunder and they are working on a contract proposal.

Your correct. I heard 3 years / $15 million from ESPN but now its reportedly up to $25 million. In regards to Kidd affecting their 2010 plans, wouldn't it actually help them? I know that they would have less money to spend but aren't he and LeBron very good friends?

I would say that Iverson would come off the bench and play a big role on the second unit.

He would also get most of his minutes at the 2 with Wade at the 1...

The Heat played Cook at the 3 alot last season..so that would mean Cook would play more at the 3.

Beasley is a starter next season by all indications at the 3.

Iverson coming off the bench? I'll believe it when I see it without him *****in'. No disrespect to your comment, I just don't buy that but you may be right.

If we get Artest..I fear that we may be trading Beasley for Bosh or Amare.

    that was NOT MY plan.

Beasley will average 25 ppg one day in the NBA. he is 20 years old for ****s sake.

I hope Riley has the patience to hold onto him and not deal him.

    Hey Sect...

    Told ya So....:tongue2:

We'll see, this is not a done deal yet, Artest will earn more than the MLE, and Iverson is a tremendous risk to take on, in some ways I hope the Heat don't pick him up because he quit on the Pistons last season, and that is locker room cancer writ large on a player.

they are not tearing apart the team to get a quick fix.

they seem to be ADDING a player or two.

very different from trading away the team to build a contender now.

It's merely a rumor, but the Heat will make a large move, no way they charge into the Eastern Conference in 2009 without adding some large, fairly expensive pieces.

It seems Lebron is good friends with everyone. Kidd certainly couldnt hurt as a drawing card for 2010 FA's; I mean if youre Bosh or Amare or whoever you know that Kidd is an unselfish player who runs a layup line sometimes on the floor. But truth be told its not really my plan.

My plan was more like clear everyone off the books except Wilson Chandler, Gallinari, and Jordan Hill (less then 10M in cap space allocated). That means trading Jeffries and Curry somehow but if I had to give up Lee and/or Robinson to do it so be it. In the meantime you'll have 54M to spend next year on a projected 64M cap. Sign Joe Johnson, Nash, and Bosh or Amare. Fill the rest with FA's. The young players we have are good. Gallinari is going to be a star, I am thoroughly convinced of that though he needs to get stronger.

No I havent heard anything on the Lee front other then Memphis pulled out when the got Randolph. they went the Randolph route when Heisley was told he would have to pay Lee for 4-5 years and 7-8M per. I think Toronto, Houston, and portland were all looking at him. I think lee ends up taking the Knicks qualifying offer this year and tries again next year when teams have more money to spend and the Knicks who can pay him the most will be more willing to use up cap space long term. Ditto for Robinson.

Not sure what youre going through bro but hold strong. If you need friends you know where to find us :knucks:

Wow, artest to LAL per Rotoworld and Cbs sportsline. Guess we dont have to worry about the Artest to Cleveland scenario...It may cost LAL Odom and Ariza who ironically both fit reasonably well in Cleveland. Odom could also fit reasonably well in Orlando

Rockets unrestricted free agent Ron Artest told CBSSportsline.com that he is going to sign with the Lakers.
CBS's Ken Berger offers no details, but says they are coming. Artest is a huge coup for the Lakers if the news is true, as they could then afford to lose Trevor Ariza (who, ironically, could be joining the Rockets) and/or Lamar Odom to free agency.

Losing Odom & Ariza is going to hurt them badly.

Kobe-Artest-Gasol is strong, but I dont think they will have as deep of a front court they had this season having both Odom & Ariza to rely on at the 3.
