God rest your troubled soul, Michael. May you find the peace and sanity now that eluded you in life.

For those who wish to witness/remember the greatness that was Michael, MTV is having a tribute weekend for him. They just showed We are the World. Talk about the gamut of music legends - Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, The Boss, Bob Dylan - all the greats.

I used to love his 3-d show at Epcot as a kid. Heard it's not there anymore.

The man Wrote the lyrics the music and produced 5 of the top selling albums of all time...could dance better than fred astaire and sing better than all his male contemporaries....this is a profound loss to the music industry and the end of an era.

Im a 40 year old man and wasnt really a fan but as I sit listening and watching his videos on youtube im sobbing like a child...I dont really understand it but ill just go with it.

The We are the World video actually made me start sobbing. To see all those musical greats, some of whom are no longer with us, singing for such a worthy cause, well....

I remember when "Bad" came out and It was an answer song to the rappers who had taken to bashing Michael in their raps....pretty funny that he probably wrote that song in a day and it outsold everything those guys did in their entire careers "and the whole world has to answer right now just to tell you once again....whos bad?"

amazing to me even tho it barely registers as a blip on his career.

Amended and reposted from the other thread:
On reflection, the Jackson 5 was elementary/middle school, "Off the Wall," high school, and "Thriller" undergrad. I also just remembered a guy getting a date with me by having a DJ play PYT
There are so many aspects of pop culture that remind us of our own stages of life and ultimate mortality.
Listening to "Never Can Say Goodbye" right now. "ABC" next!

I feel a bit of emptiness. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson and there are some good memories attach to that.

I just feel so pissed right now at how the media tried to crush the man and now proclaiming him a musical god. Hypocrites in every sense of the word.

Guys...hate to rain on the parade, but that's not Vincent Price doing the narration at the Haunted Mansion.

Being thphins.com's resident Disney nut, I know that it's the voice of a Disney Imagineer named Paul Frees.

Dont stop till you get enough...Beat It...and Bad are how I am choosing to remember Michael....to me the he was like Peter Pan the boy who never grew up and it seemed to me he had no Joy in his life until he had his own children.

Well that's because its the loss of a legend who we all even my generation grew up with good or bad. He led a life where everyone was forced to recognize him and when you look past all the troubles of his life and look at his musical career you highly doubt anyone can ever rival what he did. To me he's like Elvis in how influential he was on music and it just seems so weird that he's gone even though you rarely heard about him the last few years. I think its the finality that someone like him is gone that is so troubling but I guess its hard to explain. This is a huge moment in music history I believe.

Also I love having this thread where people can come and share about the good and wonderful parts of MJ's life rather than attacking him. I know we've all poked fun at some point at MJ but sometimes it takes someone's death to realize how important they really were. RIP MJ

I cant say I was a big fan of him, but I recognize what he's done for the industry(and thriller is the greatest music video ever.)

As a teenager (ok, I'm only 20, but back in middle school) a few of my friends would always make sure that we would request Billie Jean at any school dance... no matter what.

My favorite Alvin and the Chipmunk video as a child was the one featuring "Beat It" from Michael Jackson.

And this is pure irony... I've been working on designing an album booklet for my friend who is putting out his album in August... We decided this about three days ago what the design be modeled after... And after Michael Jackson's death... we feel it's even more of a reason to use this:

Actually, from a marketing standpoint it's the WORST thing you could do.

It will look as if he's trying to capitalize on Michael's death.

    I'd change it ASAP.

Considering it's a more of Religious album... I really don't think so. Either way, it's his choice.

That's fair... being it's an indie album I don't think it's much of a concern. I mean, if it was released today... then yes... it would look bad. But about a month and a half away.. the whole thing should calm down a bit like any other tragedy.

Driving around town today, I heard so much Michael Jackson blasting from car stereos. I went to Best Buy & Target, and where normally MJ's section is full of CD's, it was totally bare, except for a couple of I-tune cards.

Below is a bit my friend left on my Facebook page, he used to be a pilot for United Airlines, and runs into celebrities from time to time. M.J. sat up in the cockpit with them for the flight.

"Thinking of a time I had MJ on a 4 hour trip. He sat in the jumpseat and talked to us for about 2 hours. When meeting him I put away all that I had heard and truly tried to see the real person. A funny intelligent person he was."

    R.I.P. M.J.
