I really want to see that HOU / PHX deal go down, though. Talk about serious competition out in the West. I really believe that Denver will be just as strong next year, and obviously the Lakers will be back. Portland once again will be a wild card to be a SERIOUS CONTENDER. San Antonio is on the verge of bouncing back with that Richard Jefferson move (although they don't win titles in even years). Houston is already tough, but too much of a health risk. Amare has a major injury history of his own, but he's far more trustworthy than McGrady and still in his prime. I'd call Houston the favorites out West if that deal is completed. They're so tough and physical defensively, but this would give them a big time boost on offense. Barbosa as well.
if i was orlando i would not trade lee for carter.....lee has so much potential you think orlando is gonna pay hedo after getting vinces contract? looks like hedo is on the FA market, blazers better make a run at him
As a net fan I love that trade, vince wasn't getting us anywhere and lee and alston are 2 good players....
Horrible trade for Orlando. Vince's contract is the worst contract in the NBA. it ruins any hope of doing a quick rebuild by dropping Rashard's contact in 2010. it is a deathnell. bad trade. The Nets just got REALLY HEALTHY. They added flexibility down the road AND they get a decent backup PG for Harris...a decent up and coming player in lee. orlando just boned the east by freeing up the Nets with all that young talent.
still, the magic really lacked a reliable scorer last year other than Howard. Turk was on and off, same with lewis. Averaged more points than turk with a better field goal percentage with the same number of assits.
Oh please... Orlando has already came out in the open suggesting they are willing to pay a luxury tax if need be for the following season. We make this trade which was pretty much straight up Lee for Carter - and it gives us a shot creator that we sorely lacked along with bringing new mismatches to the table for opposing teams. Lee may not have even been our starter next year, he was surpassed by Pietrus which had been expected all last year. Youth isn't going to get Orlando a championship in the short-term, impact players that fill weaknesses that have already been exposed CAN help us win a championship.
I think it's a good trade. His contract is big, but he's a really good player that can make his own shot. Good trade for Orlando.
Agree witn Phinz420. Good trade for Orlando. And please, worst contract in the NBA? Section, you just hate on everything Orlando does.
Shaq is going on 38, and there is a ton of miles on the tires, he can still play but overusing him during the season will make him less effective in the playoffs. He's maybe a 25 minute a night player anymore FF.
looks like sergio rodriguez and 38th pick to sacramento for the 31st pick is gonna happen...i like that trade.....package 22 and 33 and move up...still draft at 31...31 you can get some nice players edit:some cash sent to sacramento too, its confirmed but not confirmed
I do not hate on everythign Orlando does. if I did..I wouldn;t have picked them in every series except the finals. and BET THEM WITH ACTUAL MONEY throughout. Vince's contract is the clear cut worst contract left in the NBA. Show me one that is worse.
Getting Ryan Anderson changed this for me. I like him as a player. He's an upgrade over Tony battie and Carter is an upgrade over Lee.
The Salary Cap doesn't work like that Phinz420...You can go into the Luxury tax to KEEP your own players. if you lose Hedo...this roster is locked in till Vince comes off the books. If you have been following the heat thread for the last 3 years..you know what we think of Vince..... He is a very good complimentary player for your team...it looks great on paper...but it KILLS your team's flexibility down the road. this is a ALL OR NOTHING deal for next year. and if you lose Hedo..it is a lateral move and you don;t get much better while destroying your cap situation. With a salary dump next off season...the Magic could have rebuilt with a NEW MAX player to go with Howard. that is now gone with this deal. It is basically trading Joe Johnson, Gilbert Arenas, or a guy like Gerald Wallace for Vince Carter..... short sighted move IMO. if you win next year..great move..although you will feel it down the road. if you don't...horrific move.
Ryan Anderson is going to replace Gortat. Think about it like that. I bet you hate the deal again....LOL. you are not really "adding" anderson.
Eddy Curry. Samuel Dalembert. Vince Carter at least EARNS his contract. There's other guys who get big money and don't do sh!t. Gilbert Arenas is one.
So you are gonna have a power rotation of Howard, Lewis, Gortat, and Anderson? I guess...that's okay....
How? We traded away Rafaer Alston( would have caused to much drama), Battie( replaced him with Anderson, so no problem), and Lee. The only player that kills me is Lee. But I can get over it with Carter. Carter is a playmaker like Hedo, but better. He can create his own shot, pass the rock, and drive to the lane and get FTs. Keeping Hedo just adds more to this team. The only concern I have is our bench.
PENN....Just sayin'...you would be happier if I WAS YOUR GM. I would have gotten you Joe Johnson. not a fan of Vince. Do you know who Shandon Anderson is? exactly...WHo is that guy right? well..his Nickname is the "vince killer". Vince has a knack for getting shut down at important times.
Vince Carter is good enough, thank you. Like I said, he can do everything Hedo can do. Also, Vince steps up in the playoffs. So I don't know what you're talking about.
I think we agree that it is a short-term move designed to get us over the hump next season. This is either going to get us an NBA championship or it will just be Grant Hill all over again. Lee- Probably would have been coming off the bench in 2009-10. Alston- We all knew he wasn't staying to come off the bench. Battie- We just traded a hobbled shoot-first PF for a healthy, younger shoot-first PF who is also better on the glass. Vince- His strengths are our team's weakness. His ability to get to the basket is unrivaled on our roster. He also is a great 3pt shooter which will bring an upgrade at the SG spot in that regard. Both Pietrus & Lee were extremely streaky from the arc. I like Orlando's chances against LA MUCH better if we had Vince in that lineup. Now when you look at the teams Orlando beat to get to the finals this year - its going to be even tougher match ups for them.
This draft is boring. I am intrigued about Amare possibly going to the Warriors. That team could do some damage if true.
LOL. Check out his career playoff FG%. it is 41% Dude...you are talking about a guy the Heat faced twice in the playoffs. and Beat his team 4-0 and 4-1. We heat fans know a little thing or two about Vince in the playoffs. he takes a million shots...scores his points and buries his team by choking it up down the stretch while playing NO defense.
In the past, he had to take all the shots. He was THE player on those playoff teams. Now, he's with Orlando surrounded by talent. That takes pressure off of him to score.
I meant in the past. He was always the main scorer. Now, he's surrounded by alot of talent and scorers.
Just a wide body rebounder, I take him over Camby simply because he's younger, and he did pretty much lead the Clips to the playoffs one season. That alone should earn him a bust at Naismith..
