Well, to be fair to the discussion, Pennington's last 5 years had 3 seasons when he played with a bum shoulder and a bad ankle, when he arrived in Miami he was healthy for the first time since the beginning of the 06 season, and even then, he was a year removed from a second rotator cuff surgery.

When he is healthy, he's a good to very good Qb, but his margin is so small for errors, last year we got the 13 games played CP, 3,000 yds, 2 to 1 Td to Int ratio, high completion percentage.

As for Brady, keep in mind he was never very mobile before he blew out his knee, from now forward he could be a statue in the backfield and the Phins always did a good job of pressuring him before the injury.

INOW, we just have to wait and see what he can still do.

Its not even remotely a passing thought....Brady is far and away the best QB in the AFC East. He's their Dan Marino, their once in a lifetime QB. But...his shoulder is getting tired...and the reason they will go to the spread 4/5 wr sets is to get the ball away quickly to limit him getting hit....

An interesting thread could be who is the best AFC East QB of all time...each team has had some great ones....Marino, OBrien, Namath, Kelly, Brady, Griese....those are some GREAT QB's.

Two years the Phins will retake the number one QB in the AFC East....mark my word.

Man....I hope in a way Sanchez turns out to be good....I remember watching Marino and OBrien firing it away....those games were so much fun. I think we will see Henne, Brady, Sanchez, and Edwards having some crazy shooting matches....

The AFC East is shaping up to be a beast again....I love hearing Ryan the Jets coach matching Crowder word for word....its gonna make our already explosive rivalry even more like it used to be....

Man imagine a playoffs where we have a divisional home game against one of them, and then a home AFC Championship game against another....

This is gonna be a real fun bunch of years for all four of our teams.

To those Jets, Pats, and Bills fans reading this.....:ffic:

I know its gonna get rough....but a toast to you all before the blood letting begins....

if we base it off of recent history and performances, then its pennington.

but Brady is the only iron clad future HOF. i just think his career is at a crossroads. we shall see.

i also think edwards is pretty decent, and better than most give him credit for.

DS(dirty sanchez) well we'll just have to see, though i cant imagine him being nearly as good as jetnation has already crowned him.

Because in the NFL, a player coming back from an ACL has to prove they can do it again out on the field, last preseason we went through the same thing with Ronnie Brown's comeback.

I can recall Randal Cunningham coming back from virtually the same injury and he was not the Qb he was pre ACL, he was still an "okay" Qb, he did well with the Vikes and that offense, but he was never quite the same.

Brady's game is different, but still.

I may be wrong, but I picked Pennington anyway. After all, he did throw for a lot more yards than Brady last year. :shifty:

IMO it makes all the difference in the world, Cunningham used his legs to gain yards on the ground and Brady doesn't. All Brady has to do is drop back and move around in the pocket and that doesn't require great physical skill (see Marino). :wink2:

Brady will be fine, he's still the best QB in football and his injury does nothing to change that.

Cunningham had a great season with the Vikes though, but it took him 3 or 4 years before he got back to a high level.

And Cunningham had a rocket arm, one of the strongest I've ever seen in the NFL.

As for the comparison to Marino post Achilles, keep in mind he also had various knee procedures, he was also the master at moving around the pocket, something Brady didn't do particularly well even before the injury.

Not yet, Brady has to prove it all over again out on the field.

I've read some of the OTA coverage of Brady, one blogger brought a so called "medical expert" to watch him throw across his body (to his left) and they pronounced him "recovered" but still, that was half speed OTA's not a simulated game.

He did it well enough to win 3 SB's and become the best QB in football.

Then the same holds true for our players as well (Thomas, Smiley, Grove, Cammy, etc) this year? :wink2:

I don't make predictions, but in this case I will guarantee you that he'll be just fine. I know alot of Pats fans and have read alot of coverage from the Globe, Herald, etc and all signs point to Brady being exactly where he's supposed to be. If this were a shoulder injury, I would be cautious about his readiness and production, but Brady doesn't throw with his knee and he wouldn't be out there if his knee didn't allow him to drop back and manuever in the pocket.

My comparison to Marino was to point out that knee injuries and limited mobility don't necessarily translate to a decrease in production or effectiveness of pocket passers. :wink2:

but seriously, he had a devastating injury, his supermodel wife is preggo and due during the play-offs. he has a ton of cash. he's officially crossed over into the people/us weekly, celeb void. thats a lot of non-footbal distraction goin on.

and to be honest, id be a little surprised if he just whirled right back and was his old HOF self come september.

Matt Cassel proved last year that brady isn't good because he is brady. He's good because that offense in general is good. You could put Ray Lucas back there and make him look like Dan Marino. There odds are astronomical that they hit with 2 good Quarterbacks in late rounds.

Youre onto something there. I think it worked the same way in St Louis with Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger. I still think theyre good QBs, but in any other system they wouldve most likely been average at best.

And that is the "was" not the "is".

    Certainly.

Was Ronnie treated as being just fine last season? Not as I recall, your memory may be different, the way I remember it, Ronnie was watched like a hawk for a setback once the hitting started.

My comparison was Marino pre Achilles could float around the pocket, when the injury happened, Marino mostly lost that talent, and he never blew out a ACL and MCL, Brady was never very mobile to begin with..

My comment wasn't just directed at you brother, everyone needs to remember that we want quality discussion and not the bickering and insults that you'll find elsewhere. Some of our fans get a little ruffled under the feathers when a rival speaks honestly. :wink2:

I like Chad, I'm willing to point out his faults just like I did when he was wearing gag green, I know that it's not a popular opinion and it's not going to receive a warm welcome here. Just know that constructive criticism may be viewed differently when coming from a rival fan, although that doesn't mean that we are going to allow our members to treat you disrespectfully, or you to go beyond constructive criticism. :wink2:

It's different for a RB who is relying on his legs for strength, speed, agility, making cuts, taking a beating, etc than it is for a QB. Of course Ronnie was watched closely. Totally different and not really worth comparing IMO.

But the immobile post-achilles Marino did just fine, a pocket QB doesn't have to rely on great mobility. The only way I see this impacting Brady is if he doesn't trust his knee when planting, but he'll have several months to work on building his confidence, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Blame that on his defense, and the kicker that choked. Peyton Manning put up much better numbers than Tom Brady.

I think the quote of "Montana is the product of a system, Marino is a system" fits them two perfectley.

You can't predict the future, you really can't say that.

We don't know how Brady will react on the field after his injury... Maybe he lost his agility to move around the pocket and that affects him. Maybe it affects his step into his throw. And maybe he comes back 100%, we really don't know... But there is so much that this injury could affect.

If healthy, Brady is the best QB in the AFC East, hands down. No questions about it... But until he proves he is healthy, then you gotta go with Pennington.

Football is a what have you done for me now business... And Brady has done nothing for the Patriots this past year while Pennington has done aplenty for the Dolphins.

Granted my answer could change by week two, but at this point... I gotta go with Pennington.

Pretty easy IMO and there isn't much discussion for any order.

    Brady
    Pennington
    Edwards
    Sanchez

Now, if we ask the question, which QB do you want to start your franchise right now taking in age and injury, then their might be some jockeying and discussion.

    Yes I can :shifty:

You're entitled to your opinion, but we have to keep his injury in context. First of all, as has been stated before, he didn't rely on his legs to make plays before the injury and it's not going to change now. Second, he's been running, planting, cutting and jumping since before the NFC championship game, he has had several months and will have several more to gain confidence in his knee when planting and dropping back. I really don't see the issue here, he's on schedule and doing well already.

I think some folks, not you necessarily, would like to see Brady take longer to recover than he should and play that angle up for all it's worth. I've seen alot of folks from all over the AFCE do their best to write the Pats off in general over the past few years, stating that the dynasty is over, that their Superbowls were a result of cheating, that Brady is only a system QB, that Cassel's performance proves that Brady isn't a great QB, etc and it's all bunk IMO. As much as it pains me, Brady is still the best QB in the NFL and the Pats are still a well built team that will continue to be the team to beat every season until Brady is out of the league.

Pennington has his limitations, he's a good game manager, but Brady is much better and has better physical skills that Chad. It's really no contest IMO, even if Brady were to be severely hampered by his knee, which he isn't even well before the season starts. :wink2:
