i voted AIC, but i love both bands. AIC however, just has so many songs and a more extensive library. Not to mention their unplugged album is very, very good.

    AIC =

    Facelift
    Dirt
    Sap
    Jar Of Flies
    Alice In Chains (Tripod)
    Live

    Soundgarden =

    Ultramega OK
    Louder Than Love
    Badmotorfinger
    Superunknown
    Down On The Upside

And if you don't count Sap and Jar Of Flies because they're EPs and not LPs and the Live album because it's all old material live then Soundgarden actually has more.

Alice In Chains were great. Dug all their albums. Anyone else ever pick up Sap? I got it in a 2-CD release with Jar of Flies, it was an earlier acoustic EP. Though I did once pickup a bootleg CD of some of their pre-Facelift demos and live recordings and it was terrible hair band type duds

But Soundgarden was my favorite until breaking up. If they were still together they'd probably still be. Saw them live at the Armory in NY the night OJ went on the run in his Ford Bronco. The Armory was the worst venue I've ever been to. Place was like a sauna. But still may be the best show I've seen. Eleven and Tad opened up. Great night.

I got ripped off!! I saw Soundgarden that same year in Orlando but RATM didn't open for them.. I got some band called Reverend Horton Heat and damn sure didn't get no Metallica.

Let me think about this.. maybe it was 94 or 95.. It was the Superunknown tour. Too many dead brain cells ago.

Both were good bands, but I give the edge to Soundgarden because they were more metal sounding to me, and after awhile AIC's vocal harmonies get annoying.

Loved his vocals, but never thought he was anywhere NEAR the best. Some guys named Dio and Tate might agree. :tongue2:

WOW, tough one. I own all albums for each band (or did at one time). I tend to lean towards Soundgarden slightly. Only because they were a little harder than AIC. Both had great vocalists in Cornell and Staley, and both had great guitarists in Jerry Cantrell and Kim Thayil.

BTW, when it comes to vocals Maynard from Tool has to be mentioned as one of the best.

I see we have yet more people who find it a necessity to come into a thread they have no interest in and post something JUST to see if they can get a response OR to express their opinion that contributes nothing to the thread.

Reverend Horton Heat are crazy. Their drummer went on to form a side project with the lead singer of a band called the toadies to form Burden Brothers.

Damn, I am the Alen1 of Grunge...

    On topic:

I like Soundgarden quite a bit, Badmotorfinger is VERY good and I've seen the band three times live. That said, it's Alice and it is not even close IMO.

Layne's voice was the most unique of that era of music, hell I still consider him one of my favorite singers. The quality of their material and the depth of their music in it's totality blows Soundgarden out of the water. Every single Soundgarden record has filler (IMO), even the "great" records. The same can not be said about Alice (IMO).

Layne was also a better LIVE singer than Chris Cornell. Cornell always lost his range as the set progressed and by the end he would be a shadow of how he started. Great studio singer but he did not have the strength to carry it forward live for 1 1//2 hours.

Besides, Alice gave us the "Dirt" record, a masterpiece and the best record released in the 1990's (in my opinion of course).

A few more songs by 'Soundgarden' that I like (Jesus Christ Pose, Loud Love), but AIC's 'Jar of Flies' album is awesome. Great album for a melancholy mood.

I've never been bored by harmony.

I would probably give it to Soundgarden by a nose, but I will say this: I personally have no use for any other "grunge" besides these two bands. And maybe "Jeremy."
