Even with the season still a few months away, my boss and I are talking about a bet for the San Diego game. He is a Chargers fan.

I asked him would he be willing to give me a paid day off if the Dolphins win, he responed with, if the Chargers win, would I be willing to work a full day for free?

It's a idea that we'll play with again when it gets closer to the season, but it may not be a bad bet. I have to think with my head and not my heart on this one.

Any thoughts, would anybody else go for a bet like this??

    Thanks

Yes I would take that bet. It is either you work 1 free day (not a biggie) or you get paid for doing nothing an extra day on top of your other paid off days.

Worst case scenario is you lose and you work 1 free day. I'm sure you've worked a free day in your life before for someone.

Have to (shudder) agree with the Jets fan. It's not a huge risk either way. Gain a little or lose a little.

I would take that bet for certain, steve. SD is on track to go below .500 this year anyway. Norv is running that team into the ground.

With Merriman back, Tomlinson back to his old self (if you believe what is coming out of SD) and the game in San Diego, I would'nt take the bet.

Because SD will be the fav's, I would suggest work a half day for free instead of a full day.

Regardless of the teams, if your boss is the owner of the business, then it's a good bet...if not, it means that the company is paying his part of the bet....

At any rate, I wouldn't make that bet until I see our guys in pads, but I'm a wuss...

    Steve,

I would definitly take the bet. Like someone else has said you have worked for free at some point in your life and if you lose that would be the worst case scenario.

Depends on how strapped for cash you are. Not everyone can afford to work a day for free. Im assuming based on the potential bet with you boss, you're probably in a good place. So yeah, take the bet.

Sounds like most of you would take the bet. No points though, straight up W or L. Most of my bets are that way anyway. We still have a couple of months to decide on this, but losing a day's pay isn't that big of a deal anyway, a lot of times we blow money on things anyway.

As others have said, the upside outweighs the downside of this bet. Having a day off is an absolute treasure. Working 1 day for free, while losing out on money, you won't even notice so much (depending on how you are paid). Just budget some things out for that week and it wouldn't be a big deal at all.

But you don't even need to worry about it, because the Phins will beat San Diego!

Since the game is in SD, I think that it's fair to make the bet and go by the spread when it's gametime. Odds are you will get 2 or so points when the game rolls around.

points may be a gamble, as you don't know who the favorite will be at that time -- even if the game is in SD ... we 'could' be 2-0, and SD 'could' be 0-2 ...

regardless, the only hope SD has is that Merriman is fully recovered in order to improve the defense ... otherwise, we win that game --

equally, we will have played a 'similar' (but better) type team in ATL in week 1, so wait until after the ATL game to make the bet if you can. if we beat ATL, no way SD beats us -- home or away.

come back to this the friday before the game, you will have a feeling of the teams vibe going in.

We match up very well with that team, i bet the dolphins to win last year.

It all depends on what point of the season you're playing SD (I don't know the Dolphins schedule so I have no idea).

If its earlier in the season I would take this bet. But if its later I would hesitate.

Like alot of people said though, I would take this bet anyway if losing a days wages isn't a big deal. The pros outweigh the cons

I think you have to ask yourself a few questions. For starters...how much do you like what you do for a living? If you're one of a fortunate few that enjoys (or, in as much as anyone can) what they do for a living, than you really have nothing but a day's wages to lose. In other words, doing the work for eight hours knowing your not going to see a penny for it will be a whole lot easier to deal with if you don't hate what you do for a living.

As someone else pointed out, who's flipping the tab for your day off if you win? Is it coming out of your bosses pocket? Or, is "corporate" paying for it? Because if it ain't coming directly out of his pocket, he's playing on house money. In which case, I say no thanks. Oooorrrr...see if he will at least give you the points. I know you've already said y'all don't wager that way. But, in this case, you might be able to negotiate it in.

Otherwise, I say go with your gut. Diego got off to a pretty bad start last season IIRC. And, we typically start off pretty good in September. Having said that, I think Diego will be pretty good this season, and it's in their house. It's also a west coast game after a MNF game, which is bad combination of a short week and travel.

    Good luck with your decision.
