Yahoo sports has us ranked as the 31st best team in the league.. Too bad there are only 32 teams, right? Some of the places this guy has, I think is a little mixed up, but hey, at least he didn't put us last. Giants at 7 is pretty messed up seeing as they won the superbowl, and the Packers all the way up at 10 with a QB starting for the first time. Just seems like they won't be quite as good as they were last season. I also think that that putting the Rams all the way up at 21 is kind of a stretch. They had a worse record as the last place team, but still are up 12 spots. Link
Thanks for the link. And your right, I'm glad that we are not last. Not far from it but still not last. And I think that they have bumped the Rams up a little high also. But I'm ok with the Giants not being on top. Talent wise I think that is about right. But you can never measure the intangibles.
I think he has the Rams too low IMO. You have to figure that if they can stay healthy they will make a run at their division. The Bucs seem waaay to high to me.
I'd lower the Cowboys too. They haven't won a meaningful game in awhile. I've never put too much stock in power rankings though.
I think New Orleans is the team that is too low. I think they may be the team to fly under the radar this offseason. I'm expecting them to be very good next year, especially with their weak division.
Baltimore seems low to me. The d is aging but still good, and McNair being old doesn't make them bad, he was old last year and the year before. I think they are middle of the pack. And it looks pretty bad for the Falcons, huh? Ranked below us....
I don't think that they're that high. It's only middle of the pack. Their Off. (other that QB) is pretty young and I'm sure Gruden will go D again in the draft. I can easily see them going 10-6, maybe 11-5 if Garcia stays healthy. That should be good enough for a wild card in the NFC. *Note: the wife is a HUGE Bucs fan- I had to defend them. The Titans, IMO, are the ones waaay ranked too high. They don't have a consistent runner, QB, OL, or WR; and I don't think Haynesworth is going to have the kind of year he had last yr. until his next contract is due. We all saw how bad their run d/pass rush was when he wasn't playing. Finally, the Fins aren't going to be nearly that bad. Maybe 22-25 (that would be about 6-10, 5-11), but we won't be vying for a top-5 pick again next year...........I hope..
I hope as well BUT I can see many more reasons that we could very well be vying for a top 5 spot next year as well. Look at the roster of this team and give me one unit, just one that you can say is solid. Solid as in having solid, proven players we know for a fact we can count on. That cannot include rookies that have yet to prove themselves and cannot include injured players were counting on making a comeback. Those types cannot be counted because we don't have any idea whether those players will make the necessary steps or recoveries to be counted on. I don't see one unit on this team at this point that can be counted on as a definite strong point. Many many holes. Enough holes to make a top 5 draft spot a likelihood to predict at this point.
To be 1-15 and not be the last team is to have optimism, and faith in our FO, who are the only reason we were not 32nd.
I have NO idea how we can be "Second" to last after going 1-15 and still no measureable changes...aside from Tuna and Co that is. Also, NFL Power rankings this time of year as as useless as Ice Skates here in Tucson....
Yep. Last year was like having the Miami Dolphins fight song thrown right back in our faces. Other teams were in the air (the Browns) or on the ground (Raiders) (just taking two middle to lower teams; I won't even mention the Pats that scored like on their first six possessions), they were always in control. Other than Ronnie Brown starting with Game 3 until he got injured, there was nothing to get excited about. Nothing. At this point: Special teams probably has been upgraded a degree or two. There might have been a little bit of an upgrade from FA in the DL where teams ran through us like knives thru butter last year. Our LBing crew will still be making plays 7-10yards downfield. Unless the return of Yeremiah Bell means that our defensive backfield has sprung a new life, we're still not stopping even the most basic air attacks. Also, JT - if he is here - has only aged, and he was being blocked by TEs last year. On offense, we'll be starting a QB that hasn't proven himself or a QB that has a QB ranking over his six years in the league of about 69-70. Our two top RBs are both coming off injuries. If the season started today, we'd be starting a three-man offensive line. Our TEs -- if you're anyone besides a Dolphins fan and were asked to name one and you're life depended upon it, you'd die a cruel and unusual death. Our WRs are workable, but unless Tedd Ginn takes a major step - and I'm hoping he does - there's no gamebreaker there. Am I missing anything. Oh yes. Fullbacks. I think I'll go on missing them. We'll be better than 1-15 next year. We have to be. But as usual, Coral Reefer's right, there isn't a unit on this team that stands out. Heck, right now there isn't even one single player that stands out as being great. Ronnie's first half was, but he's injured. JT used to be two years ago, but he wasn't last year. And that's as close as we come. It's sad. Every single thought that says the Dolphins are going to be 6-10 or 8-8 has to be predicated on Parcell's past and blind faith. I was thinking maybe 7-9 or 8-8 last year, and look who was the fool. I've got to be a little more realistic this year.
One unit: ST. The FO has done just about nothing but pick up excellent ST players in FA. We know we have a returner(s) who is a gamebreaker and two solid kickers. Now we have the blockers/gunners to break returns and keep others from getting good returns on us. I honestly believe that this will be our strongest unit next season. Everything else though, as you stated, is still a HUGE question mark. And you are right, counting on rookies heretofore unknown is ***-u-ming a lot. However, knowing BP's track record and the kind of men he has gathered to run this team, I will be VERY surprised if we do not see 5 wins. We'll still probably have a top-10 pick though.
I agree with this. I think a better ST unit last year would have won us two more games. Still, 3-13 is about all that you could project for this team at this point. If we do a great job in the draft that might be worth another couple of wins this year.
