cheap, dirty.....IMO, in sports those mean pretty much the same thing.

The guy stuck out his leg to intentionally make Kobe trip and fall. Cheap, yes. Dirty, IMO, yes.

See... I consider a "dirty" play when a player intentionally tries to injure another player. He got beat and tripped Kobe so he wouldnt get burnt...

I dont see it any different than a CB doing a pass interference when getting burned to prevent a long TD...

Looks like the NBA is going to have to wait another yr for the Lebron/Kobe match up. I dont see the Cavs coming back from a 3-1 defecit. Lebron had EIGHT turnovers and three of them were in the fourth quarter.

And yet the Cavs had less TOs overall than the Magic.

It's foolish to say this loss was on Lebron as many are insinuating. The Cavs essentially play with 4.5 players on offense (at best) when the terrible Varajeo or the broken down Ben Wallace are on the court, which is like 90% of the time. It'd be difficult for any team to overcome that when a very good team is playing so well when it counts. Not to mention the 2nd best player on the team is playing pretty bad. His best game was yesterday and he still only went 5-15.

I didnt say that. He's the only reason they stayed in the game. But when the game was on the line he tried to do too much, which as you said wouldn't have been an issue if someone else stepped up. West played decent towards the end of the game.

No you put the loss (es) all of them on Varejeo and Wallace, as you mentioned. You also put them on Williams and West and every other Cav who isn't stepping up.
Myself, I'm pulling for the Magic so I'm not frustrated with the situation at all. But even though James is one of the premier players he can't play 1 -5 and think they're going to win this series. If I was on that team I would be ready to kick Mo Williams' butt. You don't spout off with a guarantee like that and then produce pedestrian numbers. After saying he guaranteed the Cavs would win the series he should be matching (or beating) James' numbers with points and rebounds.

    Wow.

The NBA fan in me wanted to see LeBron vs. Kobe. But the Piston fan in me is always happy to see the Cavs get knocked down a peg. What's scary is that this thing would be over if the Magic hadn't inexplicably sent Hedo Turkoglu out to guard James at the end of game 2, though in fairness to SVG, it's not like the Magic are bursting at the seams with defensively capable forwards (which is why LBJ is AVERAGING 42 per game in this series).

That said, here are your officials for game 5: Bennett Salvatore, Drew Carey and the men's varsity basketball coach at St. Vincent-St. Mary.

And if it goes 6, I'd bet even money Joey Crawford works the game. I'm not totally ready to buy the conspiracy theories about NBA officiating, but neither am I ready to discount them out of hand. The theory goes that when the NBA wants the home team to win, they send incompetent, soft refs who are easily swayed by the crowd. Crawford, of course, is the polar opposite: he's a competent ref who takes unrivaled delight in pissing off the home crowd. His calls are like Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun, only more dramatic.

It's night and day. A CB who hauls down a WR to avoid a long TD does so on a player who's playing on grass (or a grass-like surface), wearing pads and expecting to get pushed, shoved, and otherwise maimed. An NBA player driving to the basket does so perhaps expecting some contact, but also expecting that contact to come from the front, not from behind, and certainly not to get tripped from behind on a hardwood floor. He's completely unprotected there and could easily get injured. It's a lowdown, dirty play.

Two things that have been consistent in these playoffs is that corner three being open every game and the lack of help defense along the baseline. Its ridiculous to see it. At what point do the coaches see it and actually call for their players to defend it?

JR Smith is a better version of Ricky Davis.

In fact...I would nominate him right now for "Best bad player" in the NBA. Antoine Walker lives.

The better team commits mental suicide and loses for the third time in this series.

I can't believe the Lakers are going to the Finals by virtue of being dominated in every game of this series.

J.R. Smith is one talented mother****er that I would not accept on my basketball team for the minimum. He either shoots his team to victory or shoots his team out of it.

George Karl isn't a coach I'd like to have in this situation either. God he sucks.

Denver has no one to blame for not being planted into the Finals right now but their own head coach.

George Karl always fails his basketball team. He's no different than Flip Saunders, IMO.

i think this series shows that the lakers, when they try, are the better team. these games where they're obviously mailing it in, they just get embarrassed. it's sickening to see a team be so lazy (especially on boards), but you gotta admit when they're focused and actually trying, they're the more talented team.

i'm not saying they deserve to win the series, because denver has given it heart game in and game out

Yep I saw David Stern crack out the pink and brown poka dot umbrella and open it at the end of the 4th. He was sitting right next to Big Foot and Sasquatch. Once the Lakers had the game in hand he closed the umbrella. Seriously get over this conspiracy theory.

A healthy and motivated LO is absolutely key. Lakers need what he did there.

It has a good point to make though.

Anyone blaming the outcome of Cleveland's pretender season on the coaching staff / supporting cast is a joke. LeBron James had enough firepower to get it done, and he failed to. Period. I don't want to hear that crap anymore. He had the road paved for him... 5-8 days rest after each joke of a series against Detroit and Atlanta. Kevin Garnett and Jameer Nelson out for the postseason. Homecourt throughout on a floor where his team was labeled as "impossible to lose." Please.

Great player. He'll be one of the greatest individually to ever suit up. Sure, he's only 24, but come on. The hype machine stops until he wins a title.

I agree, but I don't think his coach helped. Have you heard him talk? He speaks like a complete idiot. I wasn't sure he was speaking english the first 30 seconds of the interview. It was all mumbles and uh and ummm.

Personally I like to think Bron tried to do too much towards the end of the series and choked under the pressure. He'll be back. Great learning experience for him.
