Alright the time is near, I must make my decision between the PS3 and the 360....

I mainly play sports games Madden, Ncaa football, Tiger Woods golf etc. Im stuck on wich console to get.

I believe both have very good online capabilities but does the 360 have a built in Blu Ray?

What should I do fella's? As you all know after the games and acceseries this is a big investment.

If your mainly looking to play sports, the PS3 makes the most sense (IMO) because not only is the online free, but because of the blu-ray capabilities.

If you're not a hardcore video game player just get the PS3 because it can play the blu-rays. Then if you're not playing many games at least you're getting your money's worth still. If you want to play sports online I'd try to find out which system most of your friends use if you have specific people you want to play against. Otherwise there will be plenty of people to play against on either.

I'd also look at some of the existing and upcoming exclusives on each, you might find one you feel you really have to play. In the sports genre PS3 has the best sports exclusive available, MLB the show.

I just got the PS3 after considering both the 360 and PS3, the blu ray player was the deciding factor for the most part. I got Resident Evil 5 and Kill Zone both are pretty damn sweet, playing them on a nice big HD TV is really nice. I've been a pc gamer for the most part but really getting a blu ray player and a great console in the PS3 is a good deal. Not sure what other games to get though.

Loved 360. Got red rings. Tried PS3. Hated it. Bought another 360.

    PS3 has Blu Ray. I don't care. I don't watch movies. I'd rather buy $4.99 DVD's instead of $34.99 Blu Rays.

360 online you have to pay for. BUT, it is 500x better than PS3's free online service. It took my 5 minutes to get a game in NHL online on PS3. It takes 10 seconds on 360. Lag on the menus is horrid on PS3.

I've had both systems so I know.

And, one another thing that really pissed me off about the PS3 is that it only comes with regular AV cables. Piss poor job by Sony on that one. At least give me some component cables.

If you don't watch movies, of course you won't care. Most people even interested in a ps3 do watch movies though.

Aside from that, XBL is not 500x better especially considering you have to pay for it. I never have lags on the ps3 menu either. Only times I have had issues with ps3 online has involved the EA servers which is not a problem unique to Sony.

And I have both systems, so I know.

When I had my ps3, I never experienced any lag online... It was very solid IMO.

If you're just going to play sports games and watch movies, ps3 is the way to go. Although I'd wait until after e3 because rumors are Sony will announce a price drop.

I have both right now and you are greatly overblowing the differences. You must have bad eyesight to not want to watch a blu-ray over a DVD.

You've also conveniently ignored what Xbox nickels and dimes you for. So you have to buy your own HDMI for PS3. Nevermind that you have to buy a wireless adaptor [100 dollars unless you can find an old one, it is built into PS3 for no extra charge] and a rechargable battery pack for Xbox [20 bucks or so also built into PS3 controllers and included for no extra charge] if you don't want to swap out AAs all the time. That's on top of already paying for Xbox Live.

I love them both but you are only giving him one skewed side of the story.

MLB the Show, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Heavenly Sword are some good Sony exclusives that jump into my head. I suggest renting Uncharted and Heavenly Sword though because you can beat them in like 12 hours. But it's a very fun 12 hours. InFamous is being reviewed well so far it seems, I don't know when it comes out. Warhawk is a good multiplayer game that is cheap now. I had a lot of fun with that one.

if all you're going to play is sports games, the ps3s the better bet. If all your going to play are shooters, get a 360.

    InFamous comes out tomorrow.

There is also Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Folklore, Valkyrie Chronicles, LittleBigPlanet, and Resistance (1 & 2) which are real good exclusives.

Here are things you have to consider when you are choosing between the two.
    1) What system do your friends play with since they are not compatible with each other online? (most important)
    2) If #1 doesn't matter, are you interested in a blu-ray player that plays uncompressed audio?
    3) Make a list of exclusives from each system and see which ones appeal to you more. The majority of games are multiplatform, so you probably won't miss much either way.
    4) Are you willing to spend another 50 dollars for a year's subscription to XBOX live? By the way you can probably find it much cheaper at places like buy.com and amazon.

You can't go wrong with either system. Both have fantastic games, most of which are multiplatform. It comes down to what your friends play and whether you want a fantastic Blu-ray player. The PS3 is truely a solid piece of equipment for a movie player and a game system. The 360 has an awesome interface for online gaming (though the XMB is very underrated).

I personally have both systems, and I find myself alternating between the two.

i have both aswell and i find myself on 360 the great majority of the time like mainly because most of my friends have 360 and there is a great deal of really good FPSs on the 360.

if all you care about is sports games then PS3 may be the way to go just for MLB the show alone...as a poster above said aswell when i tried to play fifa online on ps3 it took forever to get a game and 360 is so much faster. not sure if its the online system or maybe the lack of players on PS3 compared to 360?

Not trying to get into a big argument, but (I can't think of any others) what does 360 have that PS3 doesn't in the FPS world? There is Halo 3 (and ODST soon) and Gears of War 1 and 2. What others am I missing?

Because PS3 has all the other worthwhile ones I can think of and exclusives in Resistance 1 and 2, and Killzone 2.

I mean I have most of my FPSs (aside from the 3 Sony exclusive ones) for 360. I just don't agree (because I can't think of any others maybe) that the 360 is just so much better for FPSs than PS3. I'd say it's closer to a push than the 360 being so much better (though I personally do think Halo 3 and GoW 1 & 2, are better than the combined Resistance 1 & 2 and K2).

left 4 dead is personally one of my fav. games and is better to me than resistance2 and KZ2. and i forget that bioshock came out on ps3 so it is probably closer...and while its not a fps mass effect may be one of the best games ive ever played.

not saying that ps3 is bad at all, i love my ps3 and would never give it up and if i didnt play online i would probably play almost all of my games exept the exlusives on the PS3.

I really like L4D, and it is a great game, but just like RE5 I don't really consider it an FPS even if it plays like one. But I can see why you consider it one. And yes, Mass Effect is great (maybe my fav 360 game), but there are similarly great games on the PS3 too.

there are awesome games on PS3, if i didnt have one already i would buy a PS3 for mlb the show alone. not to mention MGS and uncharted PS3 has some great games...just for me the type of shooters and the seemingly more convenient online play just make the 360 my prefference, but like i said if sports is the MAIN priority then PS3 would b the first option for me.

I like having both but lately I've been playing the PS3 much more than 360. 360 hasn't been turned on in nearly 6 months. As others have mentioned, I just got fed up with all the nickel and diming by Microsoft.

If you are a frugal person, the Xbox 360 is not for you. You can't just go out and buy the system and get the total experience. Have to pay extra for wireless internet ($100), buy an extra chargeable controller if you don't want to deal with changing batteries every other week ($60), Xbox live ($60 / year), and forget about buying an older model cheaper because of RRoD and lack of HDMI. Not only that, if you're into the online play every game you buy will cost you a little extra here and there if you want access to new maps, weapons, etc. $5 here, $8 there, an extra $12 for this. And the Microsoft Online is no longer miles ahead on PS3 online. You can go out an buy a PS3 and a couple of games and enjoy everything without paying anything extra. Except you would want to invest in an HDMI cable. Night and day difference if playing on an HD TV. Shop around and they can be found for under $10.

just want to point out you don't HAVE to buy $100 wireless adapter for Xbox to get online. You can just run a cable to it... also Playstation I believe also makes you pay for expansions and such so Microsoft isn't the only one nickel and diming you. The nickel and diming is mostly paying for gamerpics and themes which I don't do... I think most people don't do.

I have both, 2 each actually, I wanted a PS3 for our bedroom for the BR and for games, so i picked up a used 80 gig that was backward compatible. I have found I don't play on the Xbox very much anymore. I like the PS3 controller better, and the fact you don't have to pay for online is a plus to me. That's just my 2 pennies.

i've had both. i think about a year and a half ago there might be some debate, but i gotta go with the ps3 hands down.

the only real benefit xbox has is that there are more people online, but i'm not sure that's worth the $50 a year. i find people online quickly all the time. might be a problem with older games though.

also my ps3 is whisper quiet and never gets hot. it just feels like everything is made better / runs smoother compared to the xbox. also, your discs don't scratch (some blu-ray lubricant thing).

another thing is i have a 1080p tv and love the 1080p games. i get mad when i see my tv go down to 720p to play multi-platform games.

with the ps3 you can swap out the hard drive without being shady. i think sony even gives you instructions on how to do this. last december i put in a samsung 500 gig harddrive and have loaded it with demos, movies, etc.

ps3 also works infinitely better as a home theater pc / media center. i'd run the program "ps3 media server" off your pc if you choose to do this.

however . . . you can mod a 360. in the long run, this could save you a lot of $$$$

    1. The "PS3 Media Server," do you mean there is a program for your pc called that? Or just using the crossbar on the ps3?

    2. If someone in this forum would mod the 360 for you (someone who is well known to have this experience) you could indeed save a lot of scratch. Or they might be able to get you directions for you to do it yourself so long as you have a SATA (e-sata?) hard drive IIRC.

Running a cable is terrible unless you plan on putting your 360 really close to your modem or router. My internet stuff is not in the living room with my 360 so I really had no choice but to dump 100 bucks for the wireless adaptor. Unless I wanted a really long ethernet cable running through the room and down my hallway.

The vast majority of PS3 themes are free which is a plus. Doesn't seem to be the case so far on XBL. I've even discovered some newer blu-rays have themes you can download onto your system. I noticed this when watching the new Underworld movie the other day. The new PS3s are so quiet and noticably cooler, BUT they've stripped out a lot of extras since the 60GB model. No PS2 compatibility, only 2 USB ports, and the older model had a memory card slot you could use for importing pics from a camera or whatever. My new one doesn't have it so you can only import pics and videos with USB.

I still think the Xbox Live service runs a bit smoother, but Sony seems to have closed the gap a lot. I hate that stupid point system Xbox has for buying things.

here's the link to download it (i think, it's been a while):

    http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

yeah, it runs on the pc and allows you to stream / copy media from your pc to your ps3.

it's perfect for playing music, etc. it's incredibly intuitive and user friendly. it works with lots of file formats, and through it, i'm able to copy 1080p stuff from my pc to my ps3 harddrive. if you've used tversity, or wmp on the 360, it's like that, just a lot smoother.

I love my PS3 even though I was a bit irritated that I can't play GoW 1 and 2 on it as they changed the latest models to be incompatible with older games. I have greatly enjoyed the games I have got for it and I am setting it up to dual boot to linux as a second PC (to a degree). And bluray is awesome. I am hoping they will release an update to run the old games or re-release the GoW ones. If not I'm still liking the unit a lot.

Having said all that I am considering getting and Xbox 360 and eventually even a Wii because I'm a technoaddict and stupid with my money. I am glad I got the PS3 first.

alright so i have the opportunity to buy a 60gb Ps3 for 400. Should i do it?

EDIT: Keep in mind, i have a 360 and Wii. Im thoroughly invested in achievements so multi-console games are going to be 360 purchases for me. I also sincerely doubt that I'm going to buy many Blu Rays either. (Dark Knight and Watchmen most likely and thats it) But i do want Littlebigplanet and Infamous...Worth it?
