The Who: Won't Get Fooled Again We'll be fighting in the streets With our children at our feet And the morals that they worship will be gone And the men who spurred us on Sit in judgment of all wrong They decide and the shotgun sings the song I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again The change it had to come We knew it all along We were liberated from the fold, that's all And the world looks just the same And history ain't changed 'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again No, no! I'll move myself and my family aside If we happen to be left half alive I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky For I know that the hypnotized never lie Do ya? Yeah! There's nothing in the streets Looks any different to me And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye And the parting on the left Is now parting on the right And the beards have all grown longer overnight I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again Don't get fooled again No, no! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Meet the new boss Same as the old boss
Subdivisons, Rush Sprawling on the fringes of the city In geometric order, an insulated border In between the bright lights and the far unlit unknown Growing up it all seems so one-sided Opinions all provided The future pre-decided Detached and subdivided in the mass production zone Nowhere is the dreamer Or the misfit so alone Subdivisions --- In the high school halls, in the shopping malls Conform or be cast out Subdivisions --- In the basement bars, in the backs of cars Be cool or be cast out Any escape might help to smooth the unattractive truth But the suburbs have no charms to soothe the restless dreams of youth Drawn like moths we drift into the city The timeless old attraction Cruising for the action Lit up like a firefly Just to feel the living night Some will sell their dreams for small desires Or lose the race to rats Get caught in ticking traps And start to dream of somewhere to relax their restless flight Somewhere out of a memory Of lighted streets on quiet nights... Sex and drugs is all the subject matter you need.
This one hits home for me. I've changed so much through the years that when I look back at myself I wonder WTF was that clown thinking?
My own kind of Hat By: Marvelous Merle There's cowboys and outlaws, right guys and southpaws, Good dogs and all kinds of cats. Dirt roads and white lines and all kinds of stop signs, But I stand right here where I'm at, 'Cause I wear My Own Kind Of Hat. There's two kind of lovers and two kind of brothers, And two kind of babies to hold. There's two kind of cherries and two kind of fairies, And two kind of mothers I'm told, and told Cowboys and outlaws, right guys and southpaws, Good dogs and all kinds of cats. Dirt roads and white lines and all kinds of stop signs, But I stand right here where I'm at, 'Cause I wear My Own Kind Of Hat. There's two kind of brothers and two kind of lovers, And two kind of babies to hold.
The Verve version, or the Ben Harper live version always brings me to tears, beautiful song. "The Drugs Don't Work" All this talk of getting old It's getting me down my love Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm comin' down And I hope you're thinking of me As you lay down on your side Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again But I know I'm on a losing streak 'Cause I passed down my old street And if you wanna show, then just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead All this talk of getting old It's getting me down my love Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm comin' down Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead But if you wanna show, just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again I'm never going down, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down, I'm never going down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more (Repeat and Fade Out)
The Ramones' lyrics were not pointless. They express the frustration, boredom, and powerlessness many young Americans feel in this country. "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" is actually a genius lyric. A ton of emotion and meaning is summed up in two lines. I'm serious. Its pure genius. And nobody was doing that kind of stuff before they did. Look, I love Bob Dylan. I could listen to "Desolation Row" all day long. But there's something to be said for beauty in simplicity.

The Beatles The End "Oh yeah alright, are you gonna be in my dreams tonight? And in the end, the love you take, is equal to, the love you make."
Love that song... Might be my favorite Jimi Hendrix song. Favorite Line of the song: "Tomorrow he would sing his first warsong and fight his first battle But something went wrong, surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night" I don't know why I like it, but I do. The whole little brave part is awesome IMO. Can someone please explain the girl in the wheelchair part to me??? Is it a UFO the girl sees or what?
There was a young girl, whos heart was a frown cause she was crippled for life, And she couldnt speak a sound And she wished and prayed she could stop living, So she decided to die She drew her wheelchair to the edge of the shore And to her legs she smiled you wont hurt me no more But then a sight shed never seen made her jump and say Look a golden winged ship is passing my way --- who knows it's hendrix man he was probably ripped on acid when he wrote the last line. The third verse recounts Jimi's mother Lucille in the hospital suffering from liver disease, wishing to die so she would suffer no more, "to her legs she smiled you won't hurt me no more." Lucille did have cirrhosis of the liver, but was recovering outside of Hospital, when she was admitted unconscious to hospital, where she died from a ruptured spleen caused by a blow from an unknown source, not a liver complaint as is often repeated, although this was listed as a contributing factor on her death certificate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castles_Made_of_Sand_(song)#Interpretation also to me it is a sign of hope, something you've never seen like a golden ship can make someone who's even in the worst of situations have hope and that nothing lasts not even being paralyzed.. cuz at some point we're going to die and won't be paralyzed. at least i think?
song kicks ***. video won't embed so i put it up in "code" tags Code: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRo9kMPdKaw "Turn On Me" You can fake it for a while, Bite your tongue and smile, Like every mother does an ugly child. But the stars are leaking out, Like spittle from a cloud, Amassed resentment counting ounce and pound. You're entertaining any doubt, Because you had to know that I was fond of you, Fond of Y-O-U, Though I knew you masked your disdain. I can see that change was just too hard for us, Hard for us. You always had to hold the reigns, But where I'm headed, you just don't know the way. So affections fade away, And do adults just learn to play The most ridiculous, repulsive games? On the faith of ruddy sons, And the double-barreled guns, You better hurry, Rabbit, run, run, run. 'Cause meeting you was fun, And there's a lot of hungry howlers in this one cell. We're taking it over, Their brittle, thorny stems, They break before they bend, And neither one of us is one of them. And the tails will never mend, 'Cause you had it in for me so long ago. Boy, I still don't know, I don't know why and I don't care, Well, hardly anymore, If you'd only seen yourself hating me. Hating me, When I've been so much more than fair. But then you had to lay those feelings bare, One thing I know still got you scared, You're all that cold iron, And never once aired of our dead. You had to know that I was fond of you, Fond of Y-O-U. So I took your licks at the time, And to change like that is just so hard to do, Hard to do. Don't let it whip-crack your life, And bow out from the fight, 'Cause oh, how your sisters will write. The worst part is over, Now, get back on that horse and ride.
Do you ever walk alone Like a drifter in the dark Seeking out what isn't there Looking only for a spark From a girl who's all alone Maybe she's a driftin' too Like a shadow in the night Waitin just to be with you And then perhaps in love we'll stay Or fall and go your seperate ways Still searchin' for a spark Like a drifter in the dark
