I bet they have some new wrinkles this year for the Wildcat +1. It will give teams something new to think and worry about. 5 or 10 years from now when the wildcat is a staple in the NFL we can all boast about it started with the Dolphins.
This isn't really surprising. White was a pure 'athelete' pick. They figure they drafted a possible QB, WR...maybe even a CB or a 3rd down back. All in one pick. Wanna know who was similiar 'many positions' guy for us back in the 80's? Bruce Hardy Position: TE-WR-QB Height: 6-5 Weight: 235 lbs. Born: June 1, 1956 in Murray, UT College: Arizona State
White has zero experience at WR and CB, one cross your fingers transition is enough IMO. What I don't get is that people didn't like the selection of Ginn because they didn't feel that you should draft a KR (in their words) that high, yet drafting a specialty player with no obvious position at #44 is okay? I don't get it. Matt Jones was a "many positions guy" as well, he fizzled.
I TOTALLY agree with you bro. I think the selection is really questionable....to put it nicely. There are a couple of guys that we could've had instead that I have a gut feeling (which are usually right) are going to be special and we passed them up for White. Just like I thought (and still do) think that the Ginn selection was a 'family and friends' thing (being that Cam knew Ginn's dad so well), there might be something to this selection we dont know, and with the way Parcells handles things, may never know about. In any case, it's done and we just have to hope that this kid pans out at some other position other than QB (not Wildcat QB as I think he'll be decent there). If it seems like a dig at what I think his QB skills would be in the NFL well...for better or worse ...it is.
This brings up an interesting question. I wonder how much, if any we'll see of the Wildcat in the preseason. Obviously Pat will need some gametime experience running the offense, but do we show our hand in the preseason? My guess will be some kind of happy medium. Pat White will run some vanilla Wildcat plays. Oxymoron alert.
So let me ask everyone... If Pat White puts up 4 TDs out fo the WC this year, is this good enough for the pick??? How many points would=pick?
If Kordell Stewart is the benchmark then he should do better then 4 TD's, I think he will though, White is a smart cookie.
But to a degree, that was the point of this pick. Raising questions as to what we are actually going to do with this kid. We don't know, but I would bet that the Trifecta know EXACTLY what they want to do with him. Whether that works out or not, has yet to be seen. But I completely understand your point and question about Ginn and this pick at #44. Lets see how it unfolds...that will be the fun part!
No way! I suspect if we run any wildcat in preseason, it will be pretty much like what we saw last season. They are not going to show their hand. White will have to work in full 11 on 11 drills, at full speed to get a feel for it. Then, in some game on some unsuspecting team, we will unleash it, at least in part. Just like we did against NE last year.
Sparano also claimed we wouldnt draft a Wildcat specific player .I ask you .If we didnt have the Wildcat would we have drafted Pat White ? This regime keeps things close to the vest and yes they will use smokescreens on occasion.
