Exactly, if we want to win this season, it will be on the arm of Chad Pennington, #2 in the MVP voting, led us to our first AFC east Crown in almost a decade, you know, that guy.

My goodness, I suppose if he ran 4.55 40's, or had a stronger arm, maybe he could get some love from Dolphins fans.

i'd just settle for the stronger arm :-)

he does get overlooked at times, well -- because he is steady and unspectacular.

is that bad -- certainly not, but in the age of wow and now ... it isn't endearing.

assuming he stays healthy, and aside from the potential of 'wildpat' .... he will lead this team to whatever it achieves this year.

if Henne does not show significant improvement by the end of TC ... then the FO will probably pursue another '2' year contract at that time. they will not let Chad walk, if they believe Henne won't be ready in '10. Yes, whenever Henne is deemed ready, there will be a learning curve -- but in the win now mentality, the FO can not allow it to be too steep when you have a bird in hand.

He knows the nature of the NFL. And he knows that if he plays like last season he will get a new contract.

    Pennington is extremely smart.

He excells on the field due to his intelligence. He's not going to ***** and moan like Jay Cutler or Jason Campbell. He's too smart for that. He knows that it is in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins, and Chad Pennington, to keep his mouth shut, stay classy, and (barring injury) perform like he did last year.

If he does all of the above, he'll be rewarded with a new contract. I hope it is Miami.

Well, to me the question with Penny is the same as it has been since 2004, his health, if he stays healthy he could even improve on last season.

That is a part of the reason why the "new kids" on the block causing such a fuss is rather funny, one winning season and Penny should be thrown overboard?

That's funny, let him start 16 games this season, with an upgraded oline and Wr corps, and we could win 10 games this season, with our schedule that is no small feat.

Pennington and Williams have outside shots at becomming "all time" dolphins this season, if Penny ups his efficiency, he can challenge Marino's insane 108% qb rating, and williams can break Zonk's all time dolphins rushing record.

I love the leadership Chad (P) has brought to the team and 2009 would not of happened without him. I could be wrong but I thought it was CP's idea not to sign for longer than 2 years and wouldn't discuss an extension? He wanted to see how it went and not base purely on one season?

Until Chad (H) and Pat White prove they can take over then this should be CP's team without question. Our two backups will/can learn a lot from CP so if they get to watch him for another year or two it should benefit them and the team greatly.

Exactly Baboo, it is amazing to me after all we have suffered with at Quarteback, how Pennington is not seen as the "guy" for us.

I've seen enough Cleo Lemon boneheaded throws, Beck fumbles, C-Pepe sack/fumble/injuries and T Green concussions and AJ feeley pick six's to last me a lifetime.

Pennington is slowly erasing those terrible terrible memories of epic fails past.

Thanks bro. It's hard to pick the best out of a bad bunch there!

I also think another year or two of CP will also benefit the receivers as well - the extra walk and talk throughs after practice the extra hours in the film room - they all admitted that it benefitted them last year and they knew they were making progress if they were thrown too.

It reminds of Dan Marino after every incompletion - Dan would have something to say to the receiver, no doubt most of unprintable! but you could see they wanted to go out the next play make the catch. Just having Chad's presence & experience probably won us at least 2 or 3 games last year alone

All true, this is more then likely Penniington's last season in Miami though, he'll be 34, if he has back to back successful seasons then his free agency value will never be higher, and we just spent back to back #2's on Quarterbacks.

His is probably worth 7 million a season, maybe more, with a large signing bonus, with Henne and White, it would be tough to see that sort of investment being made on a 4 yr contract.

I dont think the people in the know have ignored him at all...the plan is the same imo before any of the talk of henne and the drafting of white..

He is our unquestioned starter imo and deservedly so...Pat white will take some snaps from him because of the wildcat, but he KNOWS that. no big deal to him.

If the guy wins a playoff game this year then hennes *** should be on the bench again next year.

That is the reality, unless they can work out another 2 year deal, it is tough to see Penny here in 2010, I'd love to have him here, but money talks and this is probably his last shot at a final large contract.

If they could get a 2 year deal done now that would benefit the whole team, if doesn't then I would doubt Chad would be back next year. I hope their working on this behind the scenes but you can never tell these days (and I love that! lol)

    I don't love that...at all!

This season in many ways is more challenging then last season was, we play the toughest schedule in the league, Chad P is moving into his contract year, and we still have JT lurking around maybe we sign him, maybe we don't.

I'd bring Chad Pennington back simply because no one has taken his job, Henen has not done a single thing to show he is ready to play Qb in the NFL.

What can really be said about Chad Pennington, he brought stability to a position thats been nothing but question marks ever since Marino retired. He was probably the main reason we went from 1-15 to 11-5. He has brought respect back to the Dolphin QB position and in turn brought respect back to the Dolphins at the same time.
As the article said he hasn't said anything harsh about anyone despite being slighted by the Jets. He sure could have considering he took his team further and is still playing for that team even though the replacement the Jets brought in for him has dumped the Jets. He may go out and play terrible this year but I doubt it or he may get hurt as a possibility everyone keeps bringing up. But it sure is nice to have some pride and confidence in our QB for a change.
He may be injury prone, he may be getting older and he may have a weak arm, but he is better than anyone we have had in a while and he will always give us 100% effort on the field but thats JMO.

Csonka rushed for 6737 yards in a Miami uniform.

Ricky has rushed for 4642 yards in a Miami uniform.

Ricky needs 2,095 yards to break Csonka's record. Very attainable, just not this year.

If Penny is still here in 2010 we will be shopping for a new QB. No way Parcells is going to be cool with Henne taking more than two years to get ready

I'm not sure what you mean here.

Perhaps the reason why Penny starts in 2010 is that he's playing great. Its possible that Penny will have a Pro Bowl season in 2009. That doesn't mean Henne isn't ready. It just means there is a Pro Bowler in front of you.

That's backwards reasoning if I ever saw it. If Penny is still here in 2010 that will mean he stayed healthy during 2009 and earned the job again in 2010. If Penny is still here in 2010, it most likely also means that Chad Henne didn't get a chance to prove if he's ready or not.

I could be wrong but my feeling is that Penny was never meant to be more than a stopgap until Henne is ready. I just don't see parcells being cool with a weak armed QB who can't stretch the field. I think Henne starts in 2010 even if its a step back. In fact my prediction is he'll start a few games this year. IMO Penny is auditioning for other teams this year

Pat White's arrival should be good for Penny's health. He'll be throwing a little less, resting more his arm, but remaining with the offense control. Does it make sense?

Not sure why some here take it as a given that Penny's arm is weak. His arm is strong enough to win 11 games. His arm is strong enough to have an amazing completion percentage. His arm may not be top-5, but it ain't weak. It just isn't.

Absolutely. Pennington upset? Are you kidding? He's crying all the way to the bank and planning the rest of his career. These kids have lengthened his playing career at least another five years. Now he gets some plays off because of the Wildcat, and consider this: Does anyone really think that when Pennington is no longer a starter he won't be the backup, like an Earl Morrall? And who would you rather have on the sidelines holding the clipboard charting plays and advising these kids? And after that, who would you rather have as a QB coach? Pennington is going to be around the Dolphins for a LOOOOOONG time. He's on track to being a very respected and wealthy Miamian.

Most people always see this as a negative, but it does have its advantages. Since his arm is weak in comparison to other NFL QB's he throws a really soft, catchable ball. His record completion percentage can be attested to both his pin point accuracy AND the fact that he doesn't lazer the ball in there.

If I remember correctly, Chad's former WR at Marshall, Randy Moss once said that out of all the QB's he's played with Chad Pennington throws the most catchable ball.

I would absolutely LOVE to see him become a QB coach here and work his way up the ladder to eventually become a Head Coach here or elsewhere (hopefully here though; after Sparano retires of course ). He has that "it" factor, you can't describe it, but "it" is there. The players listen to him, the coaches listen to him, he is calm, cool, collected, yet can yell at people when they screw up, he constantly makes the right decisions and he is a very intellegent individual. He is a great leader as well.

whatever Henne proves this year, it will be during TC ... barring injury, of course, to CP --that's why i believe a determination will be made then as to whether to bring CP back next year. The QB challenge this year by the end of TC, is that Henne HAS to make some serious strides ... and White needs to show he can operate and be effective in the WP.

Big difference from last year ....

Chad Pennington, just where to start. A Hated Jet QB being benched for Brett Farve and he comes and pulls our chestnuts outa the fire. Who wodda thunk it. Surely not me. I hated the idea of Penny in a Miami uniform, didn't know the guy personally, why should I cause he was a JET!

Well I should have looked deeper than the jersey colors, This guy is a class act and I'm so glad he chose to be on our team. There is so much more to being a pro QB than a strong arm, just look around at all the #1 strong arms lying in the gutter, and Penny proves that to a tee! If Henne has ANY brains at all he will keep his mouth shut and just keep learning from the Master!

Why did the Jets turn this guy loose? It boggles the mind. My other question is that is our FO just as dumb to let this jewel of a pro walk? I surely hope not.:up:

If Chad Pennington plays 16 games, he will put up great numbers, the last season he had that was comparable to 2008 was 2006, and there was a dropoff, but he hurt his ankle in the annual Jets v Giants game and never was the same that season.

And to be clear, Pennington has not played on an offense with this much talent since 2004, before Curtis Martin tore his knee up and Coles had those concussions.

Efficient Qb play just is not sexy unless you are a perceptive football fan, I'll take 19/7 and 97% rating any day of the week, that is how Griese played and we did just fine with Bob as the Qb.

Penny has had an excellent year. He returns with his shoulder in tact & well healed, with the Orca-5 protecting him, w/ a running game in place, w/ improved WR's, w/WildCatPat possibly sharing the field on a more regular basis.
I believe he will have the deep pass when he needs it & returns the same Franchise, ProBowler, hand-picked by Parcells QB that will take his shot at the Big Enchilada in 2010.
Pennington will not go quietly into the night.
He may be on the verge of a NFL rebirth, a virtual Renaissance & Miami's immediate future. If he can get us through the 2009 season as well as he did the 2008, he will lead us to a SuperBowl in 2010.

Henne can either win the position or have an extended understudy. Things change: Out w/ Beck & in w/ WildCataPat.

Everything is in Chad Pennington's hands. This season holds the answers. It will be resolved on the playing field.

I can't help but think that the Fo has something like this in mind. Maybe sign him to a 2-3 year deal were he takes a supportive role to Henne, much like Strock with Marino his first couple of years. Then ease him into an actual QB coach role. I think he likes the the club and I can see him moving in this type of direction. His physical skills are only going to start to decline and better to move up than pull a "Favre"...

No doubt he could be a QB coach or even OC. However, that is down the the road, today he is the starting QB & tomorrow could be taking us to the SB. Big mistake to sell him short.
Too much talk about his alleged weak passing arm:
The guy has had a bad shoulder injury. Penny would not be in the NFL if could not go deep. He has a deep pass when healthy & given enough time to set & throw. Anyway you cut it, he is the most accurate passer in the NFL & one of the top QB's available.
How many times do you need to go deep to keep a defense honest? Probably once every three or four offensive sets.
It's all about ball control & manging the game.

The guy is the consumare professional. In his ownwords: I am a servant to my team. These words aren't bogus humility but frame his belief system. They are the words of a Franchise QB.
Penny has had an excellent year. He returns with his shoulder in tact & well healed, with the Orca-5 protecting him, w/ a running game in place, w/ improved WR's, w/WildCatPat possibly sharing the field on a more regular basis.
