With Pennington running the offense and with two promising, young quarterbacks in the wings it certainly looks better than it did prior to last year and the years before then.

I've said it before and will say it again, the way Pennington plays he can last a long time. His dink and dunk style of play are based on his mind more than it is on his body. Old Penny may outlast Henne on our roster, although I think the staff will give Henne every opportunity to win the job next summer. Penny is a special player and I wouldnt want to be backing him up right now, because he's in the perfect place for his particular skills. The temptation to bring in Henne's strong arm will fade if he comes in and has a few turnovers every game. Penny can play a month without a turnover, and that is why we win games right now.

I believe Pennington has never had two consecutive healthy years. Time for Henne to buckle his chinstrap.

Pat White is a great talent but has a LONG way to go. but what sets White apart from other rookies is his football IQ which only tell us it wont take long for him to catch on. But the only competition at the QB spot will be between the Chads... Im sure well see that #6 watching from the sideline a lot more than on the field this year, but I am really excited about his future and pumped to see him in a dolphin uniform

By far the best QB situation that we've had here since Marino era

I don't think there is a competition for Pennington's backup.
Henne is the heir to be in the standard offensive system & is in year two of that development.
Barring unforeseen injuries, calamities, tragedies, whatever, Henne will remain the understudy to Pennington & has no shot @ beating White out playing the WildCat.
WildCatPat will run the SingleWing & be the #3 for the standard offensive system.
Pennington /White will start their respective systems.
Henne will be on the bench until he is either needed or good enough to replace Chad Pennington. it is what it is

Penny & WildCatPat for 2009

There never was a competition between the two and there doesnt ever need to be..henne is our future Pro set QB, white is our future WCQB....done.

IMHO having two separate QBs for two separate systems is a mistake. Let One man win the QB job and go with that.

Edit: Every pro player thinks he is an every-down player.

While I understand your point, I have to disagree. I would love for one guy to win the job outright, and be the QB 100% of the time. However, what we have here is two distinct players, and two distinct systems. So you would be led to believe that when Henne is in, were running a standard offense, and when White comes in, its going to be a wildcat play. However, here is the beauty of the situation... White will (should) be able to run both systems. Thus making it that much harder for opposing defenses. When white comes in, theres a chance for it to be a wildcat play, and the chance for a regular/traditional offensive play as well. I kind of like the element of surprise it can bring. Of course, thats assuming we do indeed end up going to a two QB system. I think the possibilities of using both guys, makes our offense a bit more dangerous. If Henne can throw, and white is simply good at running, then yes, you're right. It probably wouldnt be the best idea. It should be interesting to see what happens.

I disagree with the concept of us having two 100% different systems.

A significant wrinkle that we will need for the Wildcat to be most effective will be having Pat White, Chad Pennington and Ricky Brown on the field at the same time.

Which will mean lining up Pat White at WR in the regular offense and Chad at WR in the Wildcat, in at least a significant minority of snaps.

One of the reasons why the Wildcat was so effective was that opposing Ds couldn't just do a head count and work out what formation we were running. If we run Pennington and White as mutually exclusive options at QB we are telegraphing too much information to the opposition.

Thats exactly what I'm worried about. Pennington gets hurt eating breakfast...I predict Henne will get his chance to start this year, and I look forward to it

It is kind of funny because from what I heard on the radio, people were actually IMPRESSED with Pat White's arm.

I don't think that we need to have Pennington on the field during the Wildcat. White is going to be the surpise. Is it a run? Is it a pass? Who knows. Pennington on the field won't change the suprise factor one bit. There is absolutely no need for Pennington to be on the field during Wildcat packages. That was the problem last year...Pennington was on the field during Wildcat, and was basically a waste. So, while we gained an advantage with the Wildcat, we lost some, because we essentially were playing 10 on 11, as Chad was not used, so, he just hung out, way away from the play. Now, with White, you will 11 players on the field who are ALL involved in the play. And, since White is a legit threat to both run AND pass, teams won't be able to stack 8 or 9 in the box to stop the run, or they'll risk getting burned deep. Last year, Ronnie made the decision to either hand off, or run himself. This year, White will be able to read the D, and decide to hand off, run himself, or pass. So much more dynamic, and Pennington will get some nice rest on the sideline.

That was actually a good article by Armando. Certainly a win win situation and a great point about making sure Henne won't get comfortable and making him continue to work hard now that he'll have competition.

Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, Tony Sparano and myself disagree.

Sometimes great sucess requires a great gamble...this happens to be a very calculated one, where we have advantages over every other team in the NFL.The four most important ones are..

1}We have the coaches and knowledge of the system..

2}we have the experience of a full year executing it.

3} We have the supreme players that can execute it

4} We have the committment to master it.

The rest of the NFL aint got jack sh@#.....

The ability to attack a defense from every conceivalble angle, To be completely unpredictable,a multi dimensional, progressive offense is our identity moving forward. {think Smashcat}, think a beautiful harmonious marriage, working in unison together, while making sacrifices for the other.

Penny for now, Henne and White are getting married soon.

I hope you get on board, because i think your going to miss a great ride...however, your conviction i do respect, even though i vehimently disagree with it.

Sparano, Ireland and Parcells have never said Pat White will be relegated to only being the Wildcat QB.

I think that's just what most of us hope.

well of course tha cant say that brother, it would shatter the kids confidence, telling him what they have has been perfect. and it at least gives the guy a shot based on performance, This regime is smart and is playing the media like a fiddle. and will continue to do so..

We dont want anyone thinking we have pat white learning wildcat plays exclusively, even though their gonna, when they see him come in for penny, split wide right at receiver, coming in towards ginn whos split wide right, ronnie takes the snap, fakes it to pat,and follows jake, who lined up offset on the right so he could pull left on the play,he leads brown on a counter thru the hole..Jake buries Jason taylor in the dirt, ronnie runs over the saftey n all in one play, the Smashscat is born...now what we do next the rest of the nfl will have to figure out.

The problem with Henne is that this year while he'll be on the sideline holding a clipboard, White will be on the field making plays. If White turns out to be a great NFL player just like he was a great NCAA player, all bets are off. You can say Henne is far ahead of White, which right now he is, he's been in the league longer. But everything about Henne has been what the front office hopes for and what he's done on the practice field. If White starts getting it done on the real field this year, Henne could find himself having to compete the next year for the starting spot.

that'll work for a season before teams start preparing for the wildcat strictly when white is on the field. I think white gets a shot at both jobs, and if I'm henne im trying to figure out how I can play both the wildcat and the regular system. Especially if white can run, protect the ball, and be valuable in the wildcat. That way you have two seperate systems, and almost no way for teams to be able to tell its coming.

If Pat white can beat out henne Lucky then more power to him and us..I think just having him on the team and to find out what kind of dynamic his play brings to a offense, is a competition to henne of sorts...

However imo, the two attacking is more dangerous then the one operating two systems, I know in my mind Pat white cannot play in the proset as well as chad henne. but how Pats overall game affects a defense, has yet to be determined..The only way pat becomes the fulltime starter imo, is if we, as a franchise, totally commit to his style of offensive theory. i really dont think our regime is thinking in those terms.. I really believe they are excited about combining both players skills in two different systems.

It's my understanding white can play an we and tv and will add. Another element to the wildcat so I believe pennington will start 2~3 games then benne will take over we need the arm stregnth we need to go downfield and Penn can't do that I see a benne to ginn slant ALS favre to Jennings
