Yes I geeked out and saved all his blogs. However its a good thing I did because this is the best information you're going to find anywhere on John Nalbone. Here's what Simon had to say about our draft picks. Round 6 (181) - OT Andrew Gardner, Georgia Tech Round 5 (161) - TE John Nalbone, Monmouth Round 4 (108) - WR Brian Hartline, Ohio State Round 3 (87) - WR Patrick Turner, USC Round 2 (56) - CB Sean Smith, Utah Round 2 (44) - QB Pat White, WVU And finally round 1 (25) - CB Vontae Davis, Illinois Uh-oh. Looks like Simon wasn't a fan of our 1st round pick. Neither was I prior to the draft. After the way Mike Singletary layed into his brother Vernon in Week 8 against Seattle I was concerned that Vontae might have the same bad attitude. Obviously Davis impressed Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano in his interviews. Plus the handful of games I saw I felt Vontae was a reluctant tackler at times. However I have read several reports saying just the opposite. Apparently Davis is very strong against the run. The other positive spin I would put on it is the fact that you have to be a talented son-of-a-***** with a big ego to cover guys like Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, Antonio Bryant, Steve Smith, Andre Johnson, and T.O. All of whom we will face this season. Hopefully Vontae Davis has learned from his brother's mistakes and will backup his swagger with his play on the gridiron. Nothing on Folsom or Clemons which is a credit to our front office actually. They kept a pretty tight lid on who they were interested in.
Indeed, Boomer spent 9 hours in the Draft Chat, he deserves a "here here!" And we signed Brannon Marion, a UDFA wr that he had been calling for us to acquire for quite some time now.
Am I the only one that thinks it is damn cool that we have three guys (Boom, KB and CK) who are better then EVERYONE else's "draft gurus" but none of them get paid to do this stuff? The fact that he discussed Nalbone WELL before the draft is stunning. NFL.com did not even have his height or weight to fill in the information until an hour after he was drafted yet Boomer was picking the round he would go in.
I know I'm late to the party but you've answered my questions when I've had them and take a lot of time to do all this and so I thank you for both.
With the posters in this forum I feel no need to get information about our team from anywhere else. This site truly has some amazing football minds and I appreciate each and everyone of them for thier insight and inputs.
The best part is he made a site called universaldraft.com. It's probably the best draft site out there right now. All from our own Boomer, CK, and Conuficus.
To be fair, much of that site is down to Richard (Con). I really couldn't contribute a quarter of what I wanted to because of the Sentinel. Superhuman effort from the other two. Hopefully in 2010 it will really kick some ***.
I have been following Boomer and KB across three or four message boards for what must be ten years now, and find them always informative, stimulating, and... ahem... perspicacious... Further, I am always envious of someone who can discipline themselves to see that deeply into the intricacies of the game we all love, and be able to express it so well. Then, in the past few years, Con and CK showed up. As one person wrote on here, these guys are better than most of the ones who get paid to do this, and the only reason I turn to the shows is because my wife wants to use this computer... BRAVO ZULU, guys
The guy is a draft genius. What a great thing that we are able to pick his brain here at thephins.com. BTW, did anyone else pick up on his plug that he gave us in his last blog entry? Way to go Simon!
Indeed, Conu's player analysis was amazing, hopefully by next year's draft, Universal will be "the" draft resource, especially since Draftscout has teamed up with CBS sports and is not the same anymore.
BTW, just curious Boomer, are you going to do draft winds next year for the 2010 draft like you did this year? I read all of them and loved them all.
Probably, if I get asked. I would hope that the SS would offer to pay me for them, but that's not really an issue. Time was the biggest issue, but it's hard to turn down the chance to work for such a big paper.
