http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/Whispers/2009/afc042609.htm Interesting, we have a fleet of young, fast Wr on the roster now, the New Mexico kid Williams or Brennan Marion or P Cobbs or whomever has a shot at winning the job.
Im pretty sure every job on the roster is an open competition every year under Parcells. But for the sake of the topic, I think Ginn should be the guy, and we should be doing whatever it takes to give him open lanes.
Hmm...not sure Gish, he blossomed as a WR last year without the kick duties, it may be time to look for someone else to do that job, and Bess is not exactly electrifying as a punt returner. Chirs Williams 5'7 160 4.3 seems like a great prospect for that job.
Say what you want, weather it was a one thing wonder or what not. But I remember Patrick returning two kicks and a punt last year, and I remember all of them being very good returns. Against KC he had a 50+ return [edit] Couldnt find it online. But here http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80d8c5d0 On the reverse, you can see that by no means he is slow.
i agree, except for the fact that we can't do whatever it takes since they just passed a rule about no longer being able to have a wall of blockers on kick returns.
Ginn did not return nearly as much as he should have last year. Im hoping that will change this season.
Yeah I want Ginn to be the guy. Bess has zero chance of scoring on a return. Who knows though, maybe Pat White will be in the running.
You acting like he was like "F that, im not returning kicks" Im pretty sure coaching yanked him out to concentrate on receiving. He did alot better. Now, the big question is, will he do it this year. We want all the advantages on the ST, but at the same time, if it will take away from him living up to his full potential as a receiver, I will have to say no thanks. Dont forget, he would have around, what? 5 more career returns if it wouldn't be for flags?
I want Ginn to have one of those jobs, but not both. You don't want to overload him and you also don't want to take away from his work as a top receiver.
I am of the opinion that the lack of 3-man wedges will not have much overall affect on the average KR next season. Just because there will be no more 3-wedges, it doesn't mean we can't do whatever it takes (within the rules of the game) to get the job done, it just means we have to do it differently.
I think you can expect Hartline to get a good look at return duties. He was a track star in HS. .."With Ginn catching passes at Ohio State, Hartline was finally able to win both hurdle titles as a senior. Hartline couldn't overtake Ginn, but they still shared a mutual fan. "I always said Brian was like my second son,'' said Glenville High football and track coach Ted Ginn Sr., who was watching the draft with Ted Jr. in Cleveland. "He was tough in the 300 and 110. Ted never lost. We won five straight state titles but Hartline was someone we always had to deal with."... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...-brian-hartline-ohio-state-09,0,3761932.story
We'll see how the competition goes this year, but last year i LOOOOOVED Cobbs at PR. If he wins the duties again, I will not be disappointed. Bess lets the ball hit the ground too much, even when there isnt a defender within 10 yards of him. There were plenty of times he could have at least called a FC with no STer in sight, but instead let the ball hit the ground and it bounces back for a 15 yard loss.
Ginn is not best used by catching the ball and jogging behind three fat blockers who are slowly forming a wedge. His strength is cathing it and taking off.....Ginn reaches top speed when he gets a head of steam and that is when he is elite. This regime is not interested in using their #1 WR in the return game, they are not Cam Cameron who drafted Ginn on the heels of the "Devin Hester" hype....that was a large part of the reason Ginn was drafted as high as he was. If they think they are better off using him primarily at WR then he wont be returning many kicks. He WANTS to be the return man but Im not sure thats what the regime wants. KR- Ginn-Cobbs PR- Bess- Ginn
i want Brennan Marion to win it i really like him and i think in a couple of years he could turn out to be a really good NFL WR
Pat is going to take enough shots in the Wildcat, punt returners are the most exposed guys on the field.
I think we keep Pat White as a QB.....and Hartline was drafted high enough where he will have to literally SUCK to not make the team. Ginn Bess Turner Hartline Cammy/London I think Cammy's knee is a bigger issue than we hope.
we just Cam an extension, I dont think there is any way we let him go in the first year of it.. id switch spots with him and Bess. (if he is 100% healthy that is)
You may very well be right Friend MariOk, maybe coaching did yank him to focus his attention on the WR position. Hard to justify a #2 choice on ST''s alone. However, fact remains he is the premier return specialist, the best on the team & potentially in the NFL. Too often we forget about the third component: Special Teams. GinnJr. could be a deciding factor through the field position he could afford us at this position. Sooner or later GinnJr's got to do what he does best. My guess is we'll see him consistently used to return the ball in 2009.
With the Hartline draft pick, Camarillo's spot is not as solid as it was last year. For Kick off return, my vote is ABB! Anyone but Bess. Man is he HORRIBLE at kick off returns.
Thats becuae he didnt have a qb with the brians or time to get him the ball. Im sure he had just as muck ability to destroy coverages when he was here but big difference between Tom Brady and AJ Feely.
But we have to remember, Cam got that extension a week before he tore up his knee. That changes everything. Welker was one of the best players on the team. And we would be lucky if our return man, whether it's Ginn or whoever, develops the same vision and instincts as Welker. As noted, the Top 4 spots are pretty well locked up. Ginn, Bess and the two rookies. I'm really hoping Camarillo comes back strong. He was on his way to 80 catches last year. But you never know with injuries. Could certainly shake things up.
