...how so? Considering all you did was repeat my very stance, I would venture to welcome you to join my bandwagon. I find The Who to be incredibly talented, and much more original. Call me kooky, but being more original counts with me. Kind of lke how I like Opie much more than...well, I think you get the idea. Again, I LIKE Led Zeppelin. Find where I said I don't. They are the greatest cover band of all time. I simply enjoy The Who moreso. Besides, I am not alone. Anthony Zuiker agrees with me.
I look at it this way... Approx. 48 hours from now I will be on I95 headed north to Miami Mikes!!! I plan to hit town around 4:00PM if Traffic isn't a biatch!
You are still going on about them being a cover band... re: led zeppelin 1 [8] [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Music-Led-Zeppelin/dp/1844491412"]Amazon.com: Complete Guide to the Music of Led Zeppelin (Complete Guide to the Music of...): Dave Lewis: Books[/ame] that is the book that is taken from. Also, I'd just like to point out. While Zeppelin may have covered some music from artists (and made it their own style, mind you) they were FAR from a "cover band". Name the zeppelin songs that are originals. I can go from "Dazed and Confused" all the way to "Fool In The Rain" which spans their entire LP collection of music and you will find way more original tracks than you will covers. This makes them an original band. Learn to Zeppelin.
Oh and don't forget the greatest American rock band, Tesla-they did Signs, We Can Work It Out, and Mother's Little Helper on their acoustic live album, and then released Real2Reel 1 & 2 which were all cover songs by artists they listened to growing up-so they must be a cover band too! 'Cuz no one has ever covered another artist's music or been influenced by anyone else...
IS. They still kick *** nightly. Their newest album, "Forever More", may be their best work. And who would you nominate, sir?
Too me and this is just me the greatest American rock band would have to be either Lynyrd Skynyrd, or The Eagles. Hard to argue with the timeless success of either band. You still hear them all the time, while you hear Tesla every now and again on a classic station.
Good choices, although I would argue that The Eagles have made too many drastic changes in their style and sound to qualify. They've gone from country rock to adult contemporary easy listening over the course of their career. Skynyrd has definitely kept their sound, and with as many dead members of the band as there are, that's a tough thing to do. For me, Tesla has always been rock-solid. No BS, no style changes, just straight up rock your face off fun music. I guess I could put KISS up there too-what other band has gone 35 years singing about p**sy? Seriously.
also, aerosmith crosses multiple genres when lynyrd skynyrd is stuck in "southern rock". what have skynynrd done for rap lately like aerosmith did with run DMC? you might not like that song but it was big at the time...
I definitely get the Aerosmith argument as well. They are up there in the top 5 for sure. It's definitely NOT Metallica, though. I think we can all agree on that.
I like Aerosmith, and they were and are right up there. But that arguement isn't really relevant for a topic like this simply because Anthrax has done it too, and I dont think anyone would consider them a top band, maybe heavy/death metal. But the reason Aerosmith has stayed relevant is they have all sold their souls and will live forever. End topic.
If it was of OUR gen. or even the last decade, then yes, I would consider them. They are def. one of the best bands of our time, but its yet to be seen if they will be timeless. Lets see if in 20 yrs people are still playing songs by them and we can talk about them.
tell me you cant put in "dream on" right now....and it takes you back to when you first heard it......no doubt aerosmith is timeless dude..... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEbMbAuAgmU"]YouTube - Aerosmith - Dream On[/ame] EDIT- released in 1973...........36 years....and this song was takin by eminem....and used in a rap song.....aerosmith has touched every genre of music.....aerosmith FTW
I actually said that as kind of a rib-I can't remember if it was in this thread or volume 3, but Samiseophinborderwolf and I had a little back and forth about Metallica vs. Tesla that actually carried over into a whole 'nother thread, even. I do like early Metallica (up to the black album) and think Death Magnetic has a few good points, but the rest of the catalog sucks big hairy ballz. But Samiseophinborderwolf would have none of it. Hey since they released Garage Days AND Garage Days Re-Revisted, THEY are a cover band!
