Not sure where Vontae Davis fits this team, character and playing wise. He's got issues all over the place.

Yeah, I know. I've read all about it. But, there's no denying his prototypical size/strength and abilities. And, fact is Miami is looking long and hard at him. Could be that Parcells feels he's coach-able regardless of all that's being written and said about him. Personally, I would pass. But, hard to say what the FO will do if he's still there at #25.

Thanks for the input, guys. I went with Butler. I just expect a quality WR or OLB to be availabe in the 2nd. Not sure if any CB's make it to our next pick, maybe Sean Smith. Maybe. WR's generally slip on draft day so I wouldn't be surprised to see Nicks availabe at 44. If we can get Butler, Nicks/Robiskie/Britt, an OLB prospect, and a DT with our first four picks, i'd be estastic. We could then build the depth of o-line, d-line, S's, whatever in the late rounds.

He passes the eye test but he's not a very good cover corner IMO. He lacks long speed, he blows coverage quite a bit, all he does is jump routes and is a one hit wonder in run support. He lacks intelligence to play FS and is best fit in a heavy zone coverage, which we will see some of in Miami but I can't see them taking him.

OK boys 'n girls. After a bit of a technical delay, my mock is moving again. And, we're only four picks away from making our next (and last) pick for The Fins. So, I'm once again looking for some input.

Please let hear from you all that are still interested in contributing.

    Thank you,

    G

    Go with Dorrell Scott.

Note: Whoever is the Broncos GM had a big reach with Roy Miller there. I like him but round three is early.

if the buffalo/eagles trade would have been done before this mock, the Bills wouldn't have picked DE aaron maybin they would have picked OT Michael Oher. Then every DE/LB type of player would have slid down and Robert Ayers would probably be available right now.

I would still pick a CB b/c its our biggest need. I'm not crazy about Vontae Davis so i would want to trade down or reach for Darius Butler.

OK, so we got two for Scott. Yeah, that's the way I was leaning too. Anyone else?

Yo RNI...that's not my mock. Someone else piggy-backed on my thread a few days ago.

If you want to know where we are, please go to the first post in this thread.

Round three is where we be.

i know that's not your mock.

i'm not crazy about yours b/c we don't need to wait til our 3rd pick to get a CB.

It doesn't matter where you get your CB, as long as you get him. If you've got good value and a player at 1 or 2A, your not going to pass him up so you can see what DB will be there at 3.

Yeah, I like Byrd at 56 as well. Good value. I have issues with him in terms of staying in the hip pocket of wide receivers down field but at worst, he's a very good free safety. He also fits very well in zone coverage, which will be used a lot of with the Quarters coverage.

As we wind down on my mock draft, I first want to thank everyone that provided their input. It was very helpful, and I appreciate all the input I received. I especially want to thank the following members, as they were most involved:

I also want to say that it was a real learning experience for me. It gave me an opportunity to not only learn more about this year's rookie draft pool, especially the top prospects. But, it also gave me a better idea what to expect come this weekend. Although, in reality no one knows what to expect when you get right down to it. That's why we'll all eagerly watch.

    Summary of my picks:

#25) Hakeem Nicks, WR North Carolina
    #44) Paul Kruger, DE/OLB Utah
    #56) Jairus Byrd, CB Oregon
    #87) Dorell Scott, DT Clemson

My analysis, FWIW, is this...as much as I would love to see Miami select Hakeem Nicks at #25, I am doubtful it will happen. Why? Well, in truth I believe they're going to trade that pick away, if at all possible (assuming of course someone wants it). Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure the FO is already making it clear that the pick is available...for the right price of course.

So, why did I select Nicks? Well, because in part because I had to pick someone. But, in truth my man crush on Mr. Nicks is no secret. I believe he is going to be the next great WR to arrive on the NFL scene. And, I think he would elevate our entire offense. The $64K question is if we use the pick, and he's still on the board, will Miami take him? Dunno. I hope we find out Saturday. Of course, if he's already off the board (which is very conceivable), well then all bets are off. I would expect us to take best available defensive player in that scenario, and there's much debate about who that might be. Butler, Davis, S. Smith are all possibilities at CB, as are Matthews, Sintim and English at OLB/DE/pass rush specialist. And, truth is...if Nicks is gone, I'd be happy with just about any one of them. If they bypass Nicks for one of them, and Nicks is gone by #44, well...I'm probably gonna pout for the rest of the off season.

Kruger I think would at the very least add some depth and provide a platoon player that could help to put pressure on the QB. Truth is I'm not sure how exactly hit fits our scheme. I was targeting S. Smith, who came off the board one pick before me. So, I was a little flustered making the pick quite frankly. All I know is Kruger is a "Parcells guy." Whether or not he would start right away or work his way into PT, I just think he's a good football player that would bring a great attitude to the LR.

Byrd is a hard nosed ball hawk. I think he's one of the better of the second or third tier corners in the draft. Eventually, I think he would likely switch to safety. But, as a rookie I would see him competing for PT, maybe as a nickle DB if nothing else. And, I think he could fit nicely into this "quarters" coverage scheme. He's also got skills as a PR. I think he has a lot of value late in the second round.

I have to admit I know very little about Dornell Scott. I leaned on the brain trust here at Thephins.com, and was advised to take him with the third round pick. I know he had adisappointing senior campaign, so my guess is his stock fell as a result. And, I'm guessing he has the tools to be a good if not great NT. He obviously would have time to compete for the position. And, if nothing else he brings a rotational guy to help spell Ferguson and help keep him fresh.

With the remaining picks, I would think targeting a RB, another CB, and an interior lineman or two would be in order. Along with another QB. All day two picks.

Well, that's it. Feel free to grade, rip, and/or critique my decisions. I know many would have done it differently. I myself might've gone a different way now that it's all said and done. Hindsight and what not. But, all I know is...it was all in done for fun. And, come Saturday at 4PM, it all goes out the window.

I wish our FO the best of luck this weekend. I know I won't agree with all their selections. But, I also know they know a whole hell of a lot more about it than I do. So, I say, in Bill & Company I trust. Go Fins!!!

    G Man...out!
