Dolphins searching for a nose http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2009/04/yeah-i-said-it.html Say bye to Beck http://www.realfootball365.com/articles/dolphins/13805 Sizing up the draft: Defensive backs - Malcolm Jenkins vs Vontae Davis http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...raft-cornerbacks-s04080sbapr08,0,228656.story
Considering he's done nothing against us the past few years Anything we can do to the Pats, I'm all for!!! Plus it would allow us to use our #1 pick next year else where.... like CJ Spiller. hahaha.
Wilfork has said repeatedly he hates the Dolphins, and I am down with that. The guy is way overrated, and a dirty player to boot
well we def do need a nose tackle. remember when ferguson went down last year? and with ferguson's injury history.....
I don't think the Dolphin's braintrust are thinking about another teams NT. It could happen but I really don't think they are planning ahead for it. If a good young NT falls to us I still think they make the pick.
I dont think we can go out and not draft a NT this year because of a potential FA NEXT year. Thats just asking for a letdown really. What happens when the Pats offer him a new deal? Franchise him? Etc. To many variables. You cannot draft in the present thinking of specifics in the future like that.
We will be lucky if he makes it that far ... With so many teams moving to a 3-4 NTs are in huge demand this draft, and simply put, there arent that many in this draft early. Add in teams like JVille, traditional 4-3, looking to bulk up and you have a huge demand with low supply. Personally im leaning toward LB with 25 and CB with 44 myself. Rey M. making it to 25 would be sweet.
I don't think our NT is going to be someone alot of people have pegged as an NT. He's probably going to be more along the lines of Jason Ferguson, under 320 pounds and not brutally strong, more of a hard-nosed technician than a big fatbody. You've got to consider basically all of Parcell's NT prospects have been like 6'3" 315 pounds, and that the guys that Jeff Ireland and the current coaching staff came up with guys who were 6'4" 300ish pounds.
No he will not,........hopefully. He's not a typical nose tackle IMO. He does not have an ability to slide down the line and make plays. http://www.universaldraft.com/Ron_Brace.html
Jesus I hope not. Guys you may want to look out for may be Dorrell Scott or even Ricky Jean-Francois (I know that will peak some interest, just plug in a game tape and you'll see what I'm looking at) He doesn't have the great lateral agility but the LSU product can hold his own at the point of attack.
Brother Can You Spare A Nose Tackle http://www.nfldraftbible.com/All-Access-Football/an_in_depth_look_at_the_nose_tackle_position.html Good read on NT in the draft
Ricky JF sure looks good at times in LSU's scheme. Definitely physically capable of being a stud if he wants to bad enough. Do you think he could play Ferguson's spot in our scheme? He seems like more suited to 3,4, or 5 technique. When I've seen Ricky at his best, he certainly did pique my interest.
If we did draft Brace, where would you think we'd play him? Or do you think his skill set isn't suited for our scheme at all?
Banking on signing Wilfork would be a horrible idea. With all the teams switching to a 3-4, chances are one of them wont land their stud NT next year. If Wilfork hits the market, you potentially are looking at Miami, NE, KC, GB, and Denver needing a NT if they cant hit with one in this years draft. Theres bound to be a team to throw big money at him...... and thats IF NE doesnt franchise him. Miami cant expect that they would be able to sign Wilfork..... plus, although NT is critical to a 3-4 defense, the NT isnt your playmaker and NT isnt a position I would want to see us give big money to. On top of that, NT's arent 3 down players. In nickel and dime package and on passing downs, your NT comes out of the game. If he does his job, he is a first and 2nd down only player. I dont think we should be giving big money to a guy who isnt going to be on the football field during the most important down, 3rd down. We need to take one on the second day and groom him for a year behind Ferguson. Terrance Taylor, Myron Pryor, Dorell Scott, Terrance Knighton, Roy Miller, or Baker would be good late round prospects. They were teammates in college and the same age. We passed Wilfork in the draft and traded up to take Carey. Genius, eh?
My trading up and "genius" comment was referring to Spielman trading a 4th to move up one spot to take Carey and how the Vikings took us to the toolshed on that one. Point being? Whos the best kicker in the NFL? He would be better at his position than both Carey and Wilfork are. Would you rather have the best punter in the league on your team, or the 2nd best CB in the NFL? That punter is better at his position than the CB is at his, but I rather have the 2nd best CB. Its a lot easier to find RT's than it is to find NTs.
