Just got my tickets to Metallica for December 5th at Mandalay Bay! Ticket was $95 so it was not that bad imo!

    have fun.

95 is a lot for a concert, though, any way you slice it.

Sweet dude! I saw them once at MSG and they definitely rocked the house! I hope that they play the old classic stuff (Load and prior to that); the stuff that was actually great.

...And Justice For All was a great album, but the end of the band as they were when I got into their music. The 'Black' album was too much pop, had like two good songs on it. Damn that producer Bob Rock

'Ain't my *****' off of Load is a cool song though. 'Garage Inc.' was the last Metallica album I bought that I enjoyed. I have to give the new stuff a listen though, I've heard it's pretty good.

I've seen metallica at least twice. They were good live. The tickets were 60/70 dollars I think but there were also 4 other bands at the event.

expensive is all determined by what kind of show you're getting. How many bands are present?

or is metallica playing a 5 hour set?

When I saw them in December they played a lot of Death Magnetic and no St. Anger. I was actually surprised how much of DM they played. I didnt mind, they still played a lot of old stuff. Even played a few songs off Kill 'Em All that I hadnt heard them play live before.

Bruce seems like more of a regional thing to me though. I think as you head west/south, his influence wanes. But he is a legend for sure. I enjoy some of his songs.

I suppose you can make a case for Aerosmith too, ut I don't know, I think Metallica may take the crown overall. I suppose we should develop a criteria.

Bruce sells out shows all over the world. Not regional by any stretch of the imagination.

N' Sync sold out shows too. I am not about to put them anywhere near my list though. I mean in terms of people who list him as their favorite band. I think a ton of people in the Tri-State area are probably more apt to list him higher, especially from your age bracket, than say, a 20 year old in Phoenix.

Overall, I think Metallica probably resonates with more people and more generations. It is a subjective thing, of course.

I would imagine that a formula would ential the following, and probably more: record sales, touring profits, longevity, mainstream success, cultural influence, ingenuity of sound, etc.

I am sure I am missing some obvious ones.

I kind of agree with you on Bruce. He just doesnt seem like as big of a deal out here as he appears to be elsewhere in the country. I think he's good, never really understand the love for him, though.

Never really understood the love for Aerosmith either, so what do I know lol.

I could say that Metallica is the greatest pop-Metal band but I can't go as far as to say they are the greatest all-time American band.

Enjoy the show! I've seen 'em three times myself and am just waiting for them to come around here so I can see them again and get my wife to finally see a good concert.

I'm a cross-post referencing kinda guy. Plus, I'm right, which makes it even sweeter.

And please don't think I am a Metallica hater/basher. I like them-I LOVE the first four albums, think "Black" is meh, HATE Load, Re-Load, and St. Anger with the white-hot fire of a thousand suns, and Death Magnetic is starting to grow on me. I just feel the need to point out that they have made too many missteps, style adjustments, and overall bad decisions to be considered the Greatest American Rock Band. Again, I reference "Some Kind of Monster." To me, that was just embarrassing-they came off like whiny little *****es and I HATED them for it. I blame Bob Rock.

Tesla, on the other hand, have never put out an album I hate or even feel "meh" about. They did take a break for several years to work on solo projects and get Tommy Skeoch help with his drug problem, but they never adjusted their style, went into therapy, put out a movie about said therapy, made a run of sh***y albums while trying to be hip and cool for the kidz, and had to "come back." They just kept making fantastic, blues based American Rock 'n Roll, while touring the country and world putting on fantastic shows. So again, I say to you, and to the whole world, Tesla is the greatest American Rock 'n Roll band.

Search your feelings, Luke. You know this to be true.

oh i agree. ..and justice was a great album but it was the begining of a new philosophy in style and the way they did things from a business standpo..(whoah i almost said it).

i never really got into load till the s/m album nor the garage inc. as i thought "turn the page" was horrid and they way overplayed it on the radio here along with a coup0le other songs from that.

i really hated st.anger and the new album at first but the new one is starting to grow on me.even though i dont like alot of the newer stuff they still jam and put on one heck of a show.

The only Metallica album I hate is St. Anger. Plenty of songs on Load and Reload that I enjoy listening to. They arent as good as their earlier stuff, but I dont think they're nearly as bad as people make them out to be.

I knew that pop-Metal would draw fire but what I meant is simply popular Metal. In that they are a popular Metal group which is different from say a typical Metal band that doesn't really hit the mainstream (Metallica is definitely a mainstream band). I'm not saying they are pop in the sense of Britney Spears or anything but simply drawing lines between a typical Metal group and one like them that is popular ie a household name. I'm sure some may even dispute them being Metal I don't know personally I hate genres and I should have stayed away from it here because as you can see it causes problems.

So no worries I was not meaning it as an insult.

Metallica lost their balls after And Justice and you are correct my calling them mainstream. I have really lost my interest in today's metal. I think Machine Head "The Blackening" is the last metal album I actually liked.
