Armando thinks Taylor may come back to Miami

But is it worth it for one year taking Taylor on, and letting go of a younger player that is our future possibly? Is Taylor going to take us to the promise land, being the super bowl? Do we say sorry to the other vets we let go to get younger to bring Taylor in again? I don't think so. I think someone is trying to sell papers.

 

That'd be hilarious knowing we lent him out to Wash for 1 year in return for our future starting QB.

 

I don't know if I could see him as than anything more than a rotational guy while Wake develops.... or a temporary insurance policy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think your thinking of the Chris Chambers trade that got us Henne.

The JT pick is for this years draft, so again we have 2 second rounders.

As much as I loved Jason Taylor, at this point I think I'd rather have Charlie Anderson. He played real well at the end of last year and provided a better pass rush in limited PT than Porter in the last few games. And he's 27.

EDIT: And he plays Special Teams, and we all know how much this FO loves guys that can play special teams.

 

Miami is not rebuilding in the sense they only want young inexperienced players that are going to make their fair share of mistakes. But the future will be better for some of the players.

They are rebuilding like any team that has a chance to win a lot of games this season. If JT comes back, he will not hurt the development of the OLB's / DE. But he will help make them better for future years. He would bring a lot to the table for the FINS this season & maybe next. It all depends on how bad he really wants that championship ring. If he wants it really bad...look for him to be in camp no matter where he goes.

Here is just a couple key points on JT and Miami...

1) Cam Wake is not just going to step in and do serious damage consistently all season. He has the tools and speed, but will need time to adept to the NFL. I do think he will end up being our starting OLB for years to come, just not right now if Miami can upgrade with a VET player. But they will put him into positions early in the season to excel, just not going to overwhelm him early.

2) Matt Roth has not played at a high enough level for an entire season to keep his starting role. I like Matt on 1st & 2nd downs and for depth. Just not a starting OLB, after the team struggled so bad last season with the pass rush. If a VET is not added and the rookie does not catch the coach's eye early, Matt & Cam will be tagging in and out quite a bit this season.

3) Langford will no be hurt coming off the field on 3rd downs. He is not a pass rusher and needs to be replaced by a pass rushing DE on 3rd downs already...

4) Joey Porter was the only pass rush we had last season. He cannot do it alone deep into the season. There is always the chance he gets hurt, cut, traded, retires...Having only one pass rusher was bad enough. But having no proven talent that forces teams to gameplan around him, thus allowing others to make the big plays, would be insane.

5) JT would be here for offseason workouts. Otherwise I cannot see any way in the FO signing him in the first place. JT in shape could really help out our soon to be young CB's from this draft.

Now if Miami gets their guy on the first day of the draft. Then I could only see Miami signing JT if Matt Roth or Charlie Anderson is cut/traded.

The way I see it Miami has 2 lock starters. Then they have 2 LB spots with some really good competition. JT's role could be OLB on early downs, then switching to DE on 3rd & passing downs. That could really be a perfect fit for Miami right now.

Current LB with chance to start from my view...sorry Q. Moses, I am still pulling for you.

OLB: Porter
ILB: Ayodele, Rookie (3-5 pick), Torbor
ILB: Crowder
OLB: Wake, Rookie (1st or 2b), Roth

But just think about having something like this lineup on passing downs with JT.

QTR Defense...The defense vs. the spread attack that kills Miami.

DE: JT
DT/NT: P. Merlin
DE: JP
MLB: Crowder or Rookie (3-5 pick)
DB: E. Green
NB: Jason Allen
CB: Rookie (1st or 2A pick)
CB: W. Allen
FS: G. Wilson
SS: Y. Bell

I think the above group could cause enough pressure with the front 3 to help out our young CB's. Then having some hard hitting Safeties is icing on the cake. Not saying they would be the best in the NFL, much less in the history of the NFL. Just that it could be good enough to get the job done.

But I only want JT back here if he is in camp on time and ready to help get the young guys ready for a playoff run. Otherwise, I say fair well to him and wish him the best unless he is playing Miami. Then I hope he like the rest of his team get out played on every down.

 

I think Taylor burnt his bridges here. I also don't think the FO wanted him really. So now hes another year older and now we want him? Last year proved we didn't need him.

If we have the cap space, im sure there will be someone on our final 53 man roster i wouldnt mind replacing with JT. I doubt it happens, but for the right price id love to see it.

I just am having visions of JT making one last run here where he started. I think he would be in a perfect situation for his skillset.

 

We really don't know yet what the return for Taylor will be. The pick used for Henne was the one we got for Chambers.

Here's my take:

Anybody ever notice the "Tabloids" next to the check-out line at the grocery stores... You know, the ones that make you roll your eyes and go "Yeah Right".
Sorry, but anything/everything that ARM AND O prints seems to be in that exact same realm to me.

That being said, I think JT has about as good a chance of coming back as Burt Reynolds does of having a baby... and I mean himself.

i just don't see it happening ... for many reasons -- offseason training, he wouldn't be as effective as a 3-4 DE, would be a liability against the run as a DE, and he has had trouble staying on the field the last few years (feet), not to mention we wouldn't pay him even half of what he made the last few years.

on the plus side: he would fill a 'gap' need that we have right now as an OLB. He would provide some depth, and allow Wake, Roth, Moses, or DP time to develop.

respect what he did here, but i also don't think he fits the 'toughness' mold that the FO looks for in players.

 

If they sign him,that's nice.If they don't, I can't and won't lose any sleep over it.
We are a different team now and bringing back "old' talent is not going to make or break what WE are trying to accomplish.

Arm and o never really stated why he thought JT might be back here, but lets not forget that JT was the reason he was dealt to DC last year. He engineered that move because he thought we'd be too far away to compete, and he deserved a shot elsewhere where they would contend....funny how that worked out...

At any rate, since he pushed his way out of here less than a year ago and since he's no longer in DC because he wouldn't be part of the offseason program, what in the world has changed that makes him desireable to the Trio ?? Certainly it's not the need for a pass rusher, as he'd really only fit as a situational guy at best here and we've acquired a guy for that purpose in Wake.

Look, if the Trio brings him back and they are satisified with whatever those conditions are (offseason or no offseason), then I'm fine with that, but I don't think the fence is quite mended yet. Nothing has changed between the Trio and JT to make anyone think he'd want to come back or they'd want him back...

 

You can have more than one pass rusher on the field at once. I suspect JT would be smart enough to rush the passer from more than just the RDE position of a 4-3 defense.

I don't even think he played in many games last year. He was clearly not in the shape he needed to be. A result of doing TV shows instead of offseason workouts. If he still wants to play I'm sure he's learned his lesson and moved on.

This is true and a valid point, however, why would you bring in someone to play out of position. I'm sure he can play more positions, but is it worth having the future lose reps so he can.. not to me. I just don't see how this could be advantagious to our future.

 

JT played with an injured calf all of last season. If he is healthy and can live with a one year deal, I would take him back. I can't understand all the JT haters out there.

In other words I do not agree with putting less than the best possible team on the field in 2009, just so we can keep a guy at the bottom of our roster, who may or may not ever amount to a hill of beans.

There were guys posting here a year ago, who said it didn't matter how many games we won in 2008, because we were building for the future. Not saying you necessarily. Whomever it was who said it, that mindset sickens me.

 

Me too. Sort of like how we brought in Trace on passing downs back when he had the big sack season for us in 2000. When Trace was a young DE, he played a lot at RDE before joining Miami and was still able to rush the passer as a LDE for us. Taylor is also capable of the same thing. So we would have to cut a guy like Moses to have Taylor on our roster. If that hurts our future, it doesn't say much about our future.

I still don't really expect it to happen though, although I have nothing against it happening.

both both sites refer to armando's article about it, so they don't have another source. But where there's smoke, there's fire!

 

Or a guy that has nothing else to write about. I used to notice on more then a few occasions when we were posting over at the Herald that we would have threads that would ironically become Armondo stories shortly after being started. It has happened more then once and far to many times to be a coincidence. I noticed it several times and so has another poster who posted something about it earlier in another thread!!!!! It's strange because when we start talking about it and then you read his article......weather it has any truth or not you automatically give his articles weight and credibility because it coincides with other things you have read or are discussing.

And there has been speculation that injury may have been caused because of his lax off-season last year. Looks like he hasn't learned all of his lessons yet, as he is repeating that again this year.

 

Have mixed feelings about this

While it would be great to have JT back with the Dolphins, just wondering if it will slow the progress of developing our younger players? In all reality, he is a one year thing, MAYBE two at the most. Also depends on money. If he wants his millions, forget it. If he is willing to play at a lower cost, it becomes more interesting. If he is healthy, would certainly add a boost to our pass defense, being that we still have work to do in the secondary.

But we are bringing in young guys, the only way they are going to get better, that we know they are going to produce is if they get playing time.

So I am torn! Honestly, I don't see Bill bringing him back, just doesn't seem like his kind of move. Unless perhaps part of the motivation would be to keep JT away from the Patriots.

Yeah unfortunately, I don't see it happening.

Taylor must come committed to getting his butt kicked in 100 different ways by the workout program and I just dont see it in him.

I hope he proves me wrong and steps up to the challenge but odds are he will take the easy road and look for a team that he can sign with around July and thats it.
