That's great. We sign a center who's played 1 full season out of 5, trade a center who's started every game since his rookie season, playing through injuries, at a high level and then give the scrub we gave an unjustified $29 million to his number.

This is the first trade I've honestly taken real exception to by the FO.

We will regret doing this in 3 years.

Not really. Satele hasn't been playing on a high level at all. He's been average at best. And Grove is not a scrub. He can handle the nose tackles in our division much better than Satele can. And that injury that bothered Grove the past couple of years is healed now according to him. So please give him a chance first.

Satele HAS been playing at a high level. Our sucess in the wildcat was heavily predicated on him. Yes he gets outmatched by the bigger NTs and he has flaws in his game. But when you have two scrubs on either side of you and you're playing with a torn labrum and are still able to start 16 games and have the team average 3.7 yards/rush running behind you you're doing alright.

And of course Grove's injury is healed "according to him." He had a $29 million contract on the table. Do you think he's honestly going to say "No don't give me that much money, I have injury concerns."

Ok, but that's not our game. We made the Wildcat because of Satele's weaknesses. He couldn't handle the bigger NTs around the league and he couldn't anchor our offensive line the way we wanted him to, so we invented the wildcat. With Grove, we can have a power running attack.

And sure, Grove might not be healthy. But that injury satele got was pretty bad. Don't be suprised if he misses a big chunk of the year next year.

    Really now?

Funny cause I see the wildcat was born because they couldn't run behind him. That instead of calling in a play and trying to follow it they put the ball in Ronnie's hand and let him find his own hole cause they couldn't trust that interior to hold off their blocks properly. By putting the ball in Ronnie's hands directly it bought him just that much more time to find a hole.

while i dont necessarily like this trade either, i dont think that parcells & co. would throw that much money at him without our doctors prodding at him and telling us hes fully healed.

while i dont like the move right now i am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to our FO because they deserve it.

Just curious, would that be the same doctors who helped Saban make the decision to take Cullpepper over Brees? :shifty:

If Grove can stay healthy then its a good move and I sure trust this group to make that determination better than who we've had making those decisions in the recent past. They will probably be looking somewhere in the draft for a center who fits Parcell's mold.

lol, i hope not. not sure, but i imagine that between the time saban and cameron were here we have gotten better doctors and trainers(i hope). there was a big difference last year as we were pretty lucky with minimal injuries.

we may lump this in the Ernie Wilford pile of transactions, as opposed to the Devon Bess, Chad Pennington or Anthony Fasano pile.

Yes, already. Clearly a massive fail. There is no doubt at all. Horrible and totally indefensible move, no need to actually wait to see if anything pans out. This one is over, done.

Really? Cant we just wait and see what happens? When Satele misses half the year with the injury and doesnt show up much after will you still all be crying? What happens when we snag a starter with the 6th or upgraded 4th? God people, its not Satele was an allstar earthmoving gamechanging center. He was gonna be a godforsaken backup!

i think deep quality depth is extremely important. especially a guy who can play two positions well at a very modest wage.

Our front office didn't just go from brilliant to brainless in one offseason maneuver. Satele doesn't fit the mold we're looking for on the line and a veteran with tremendous upside if he can stay on the field was acquired. If one can logically deduce that a regime that went from 1 win to an AFC East championship in a single season most likely didn't just go brain-dead overnight, then one must imagine that all the due diligence required of the decision was properly given.

IMO, the more important attention should be payed to the above statement because I don't believe Jake Gorve was brought in to be the staple of the interior of our Oline for years to come.
