http://www.raiderfans.net/forum/oakland-raiders-rumor-mill/149012-raiders-trade-6th-round-pick.html Well this guy broke the news just before it was made public by the miami media. He's saying it's a 6th according to his source. Anyway, it's disappointing. A high 4th would have been great, and they have no 5th so a 6th is not great value imo. Perhaps another future pick was involved or another Raider player. Who knows...we'll know soon enough. If it's just a 6th it would have been the first time we buckled under negotiations.
Anything less than a fourth sucks, I thought down the stretch Satele improved. He is gonna look badass in a Raiders uni though.
From all indications it looks like a 6th this year..I am thinking it also involves a pick next year also. Probably another late round pick.
Unless the Cardinals want an extra 6th in return for Anquan Boldin this is a TERRIBLE trade value wise. Say what you want about Satele but in the right scheme he is a top center IMO. So what if he can't block Vince Wilfork 1-1, most people cant. I'd like to see what he could do in a place like Denver in their blocking scheme.
That sucks... I think we all knew Satele was going to be traded, but apparently on for a 6th round pick?? Come on... thats just not right...
Just because Satele is worth more then a 6th rounder to some teams doesnt mean hes worth it to us. Parcells probably saw his growth potential already reached in our scheme, hence it was time to move on and improve. It is a little dissapointing the market for him wasnt any higher, but maybe that is pretty telling.
Look, it's a market, standard market rules apply. Who cares what we feel he is worth. It doesn't even matter what all 32 teams feel he is worth. The only opinions that matter, are the teams in need of center, willing to trade, and want Satele. I imagine the market for a very average and inconsistent center isn't very large. Now the trio have to make a choice, do they hold on to a player who doesn't fit their scheme (for whatever reason) or do they get what they can get. A 6th, is better then a player keeping the bench warm.
if its a 6th i'll be disappointed... with Grove's health concerns, and our Guards both coming off of injury, Samson would at least have been good depth for this season... not to mention hes cheap... there was no need to rush him off the team unless there is some off the field stuff that had put him in this apparent doghouse with our coaches/administration... if it was for a 4th, maybe you say ok lets pull the trigger because hes not going to be on the field for us anymore and that'll drop his value... but for a 6th, i wouldn't like it...
A 6th for Satele would be disappointing if for no other reason that it means in the long run we got a sixth round pick for Chris Chambers. [Edit: I mean Wes Welker] When I think how much we could use a good receiver now, that stings. But the past regime's mistakes yesterday are a sunk cost today. And our FO understands sunk costs. But I'm with most of you when I still think Satele should be worth more than a 6. I just don't see where the deterioration happened where we were thinking he could be a perrenial pro bowler at that position during his rookie year to unloading him for a 6th after a sophomore slump.
The same FO that traded a 4th for 2 (not just one) but two starters last year in Fasano and Ayodele ?? The same one that traded a 6th for a starting NT that we sorely missed for the one game he was out ?? I shouldn't mention the Penny move, but will for the purposes of this argument, but even tho he more or less fell out of the sky for us, this regime had to have the moxy to go and get him when he was cut. You can't judge the FO on a single move...The bottom line is that Satele was not a starter here (he'd been replaced with Grove), he wasn't a backup (that spot replaced with Berger) and was only a shade above adequate last year anyway. He was arguably a little better in 2007, but that was a different OL scheme and fit him better. We were a poor run blocking OL last year. Better than 2007, but not a great OL. We couldn't sustain the run game at all during the year, so much so that they had to devise a radical scheme to jump start the run game (Wildcat). Satele was all part of that problem...He's not chopped liver, but he certainly didn't have a spot here. Oh, some say move him to G, well if he wasn't the run blocking presence as a C, what makes anyone think he'd be that as G, not his natural position ?? I don't see any problem with moving Satele out, even for a 6th round pick. It gives us another possible spot to upgrade in the draft. That's how this team is going to be built anyways. Doesn't anyone remember the reason we're in this predicament in the first place ??? It was due to a block of years that we have less than our share of draft spots and then drafted poorly on top of that...Think about it...RW has done some good things for this team, but his presence and non-presence at times has cost this team a lot... So, go for it Tuna...get all the picks you can...
Excellent post. Players don't have fixed value. The FO must have thought a 6th was the absolute best we were going to get for Samson. It should actually concern you less. This move is indicative of the FO's opinion of Grove's health.
Good move for Satele since he was destined to be a bench warmer in Miami. He goes to a team needing an experienced center with a very good opportunity to start. I remember when Grove was drafted, he was the best center in his draft class and a few fans were hoping we would get him. I wish the best for Satele but now Jake grove is wearing aqua and orange and is the new pivot man for the Dolphins.
I believe we traded Welker for a 2nd, and drafted Satele with that pick. (2007) We traded Chambers for a 2nd and drafted Henne with that pick. (2008) We traded JT for a 2nd, and will use that in the upcoming draft. (2009) Throw in the 2nd for Culpepper and the 2nd for AJ Feely and it seems we made a trade involving a 2nd rounder every year for the past decade.
Considering we don't have a 6th round pick and that we are now picking near the top of the round, we can grab talent that falls from the 5th: I'd rather have the hopes of getting G Louis Vasquez, WR Mike Wallace, Hybrid Victor Butler, NT Sammie Lee Hill, QB Stephen McGee, FS Chris Clemons, MLB Jasper Brinkley, WR Aaron Kelly, DT Myron Pryor or OT Garrett Reynolds. I've always felt our draft wouldn't be complete unless we had a 6 rounder to squeeze in between our hole from 5-7. Now we have it. I'd rather have any of those above guys than a guaranteed back-up. Maybe we trade our 44 and their 2nd as well, especially if we might be giving up 25 for Boldin. Posted via Mobile Device
still no confirmation on the pick? and i guess resigning indukwe acts as our versatile back-up c/g solution.
Understand why we traded him, we needed a bigger center. Only downside I see is that we chipped away at depth along the line. Samson couldn't be moved to guard? Oh well, lets see what we got in trade. Can't believe it is going to be as low as a 6th round pick for a guy that has been a starter since entering the NFL. But I read also that Parcell's wanted Jeff to get back the 7th round pick, get an additional pick, not just a 7th rounder. If Bill wants picks, and lots of them, wonder if he will attempt to move out of the 1st round altogether. If so, he must believe that there is a good deal of talent to be had deeper in the draft. The kind of guys that are the "lunch pail" players that contribute effectively and for a long time.
Probably not until later today when Satale has the chance to pass the Raiders physical. We should know by tomorrow afternoon I would guess. Its not that pressing of a need to know, its not like the draft is tomorrow
Satele was picked in the 2nd. Grove was picked in the second. We gave up one not suited for our system and picked up the other that is, while also picking up an undisclosed draft pick. That's a net gain for the Phins in my book.
Need I remind everyone that you don't win SBs with back ups....you win them with starters, and we basically drafted 3 starters and one rotational guy in the 6th round on last year. I have every bit of confidence Miami will parlay this into a bigger impact player than Satele will be for us, and that's all that matters. Posted via Mobile Device
We didn't get bigger, they weight the same, Grove is just an inch taller. We will be drafting a Center now.
Yea I remember him and he hasn't proven he can make a whole season let alone he can get it done. Besides he's what 29, get a young stud and let him and Long anchor it for a real long time.
Grove is stouter and plays with a nasty streak. Same height/weight doesn't mean same strength etc. Posted via Mobile Device
The Dolphins received a sixth-round pick and also will flip picks with the Raiders in another undisclosed round. LINK wish we could of gotten a 4th, but atleast we swapped picks as well. hopefully it is in the first few rounds that we swapped.
with the contract that gave Grove, we arent picking a center in the first few rounds thats for sure. im guessing they like Allerman behind Grove.
If we swap picks in the second or third round, I will consider this a fair trade. Had it been just for a sixth rounder, I would chalk it up as a win for the Raiders.
You are right. I just realized my error, and was rushing back to edit my post, but I see I've already been called on it. Welker is dog **** in my opinion, so it makes me feel better about this deal.
Raiders are a poorly run organization and they were desperate for a center after Grove jumped ship unexpectedly so that is definitely in our favor. Satele for all the bashing has started for two straight years and very likely starts in Oakland on day one. So while I'm not expecting too high of a pick there is every reason to believe it should be one that gives us a chance of finding a potential starter on something other than special teams. Edit: since a new source is saying we will flip in another round then a 6th makes sense if that round is either 2 or 3.
Hmm that's interesting as I feel we moved UP in some round. So a Sixth and moving up 4/5 slots in the earlier rounds is a Good Move IMOH.. So now we grt an extra pick, and a Much better player in the earlier rounds. I don't see us getting sixth and going down for the raiders. Hopefully it's a 2,3 rounder we moved up some for!
to be a PITA, you can't call it a win for either team until after the season ends. Brady was a 6th. LOL Posted via Mobile Device
