The argument was that he was too tall to play NT. Langford and Taylor have not played NT in their careers. The only time Langford has spent on the interior defensive line from what I know is when he played DT at Hampton's 4-3 alignment.

I'd rather Miami take their chances with their 7 rounder than trade for a guy who will not see the field.

I hope he proves me wrong but until then I'll be bitter about this move.

You show an amazing amount of disrespect for our Coaching Staff and Front Office. Maybe it's just me, but after seeing them turn us around from 1-15 to 11-5 you could at least give them the benefit of the doubt that they may know what they are doing. Afterall, most our staff has been coaching football longer than you have been alive. Just a thought, and yeah, they might be wrong.

I think some people have an inflated opinion of draft picks. 7th round picks are for taking a shot on a guy and hoping he sticks on the roster. Who cares if we use the 7th rounder on a guy who is already in the league instead of a rookie? It's a SEVENTH ROUND PICK.

TJ Houshmandzadeh was drafted in the 7th round....
I think it was a bad move.. then again maybe we'll all be dumbfounded when we actually get to see him play a few snaps.

for every Houshmandzadeh there are 10,000 camp fodders. thats not a very good arguement. i guess we shouldnt of traded a 6th for ferguson, cuz brady was a 6th, and id sure as hell take Brady over Fergy

Henderson is 6'7" and he is able to get low enough.

He was playing DT behind Henderson at his size. If he can stay low and play with leverage, he can play NT too. Hendo does it all the time. They're both 6'7".

This could be a good move. Considering the Jags have hung on to him for 3 yrs even though he has battled nagging injuries, means they seem some ability in the guy. Otherwise, the first time he got hurt, he'd have been waived injured and not kept around for that long.

McDaniel was in trouble for knocking out a fellow Tennessee student so he didn't play for Tennessee deciding to declare for the NFL draft instead. You can watch his KO here

Watch the biggest guy in all white as he knocks out the guy defending an inbound pass.

    Reality check for some people.

    1995
7a Corey Swinson (233) DT Hampton
    7b x-Shannon Myers (246) WR Lenoir-Rhyne

    1996
    7a Jeff Buckey (230) T Stanford
7b Brice Hunter (251) WR Georgia

    1997
7a Hudhaifa Ismaeli (203) CB Northwestern

    1998
    7 Jim Bundren (210) G Clemson

    1999
7a TO N.Y. GIANTS for RB Tyrone Wheatley (231)
    7b y-Jermaine Haley (232) DT Butte College
(from Detroit in '99 draft trade-down)
    7c z-Joe Wong (244) T Brigham Young

    2000
7a TO SAN FRANCISCO for QB Jim Druckenmiller (230)
    7b x-Jeff Harris (232) CB Georgia

    2001
7a TO CHICAGO for TE Alonzo Mayes (208)
(from Chicago for P Brent Bartholomew)
7b TO WASHINGTON for P Matt Turk (224)

    2002
7a TO DALLAS for WR Jeff Ogden (237)
7b Leonard Henry (241) RB East Carolina

    2003
7a TO CAROLINA in draft day trade-up (226)
(from Washington for DT Jermaine Haley)
7b TO WASHINGTON for QB Sage Rosenfels (232)
7c TO CAROLINA in draft day trade-up (247)
(from Tampa Bay for T Cornell Green)
    7d z-Davern Williams (248) DT Troy State
    (compensatory pick from NFL)

    2004

    7a TO ATLANTA in 2004 draft trade-up (219)
(from New Orleans for LB Derrick Rodgers)
    7b Tony Pape (221) T Michigan
7c Derrick Pope (222) LB Alabama
(from Baltimore in 2004 draft trade-down)

    2005

    7 x-Kevin Vickerson (216) DT Michigan State

    2006

7a Frederick Evans (212) DT Texas State
(from Green Bay in G Brad Bedell trade)
    7b y-Rodrique Wright (226) DT Texas
7c Devin Aromashodu (233) WR Auburn
(from Chicago in TE John Owens-LB Brendan Ayanbadejo trade)

    2007
7a Kelvin Smith (219) LB Syracuse
    7b Brandon Fields (225) P Michigan State
(from St. Louis for P Donnie Jones signing)
7c Abraham Wright (238) DE Colorado
(from New England in Wes Welker trade)

    2008
7a TO CHICGAO in draft day trade-up (208)
7b Lionel Dotson (245) DE Arizona
    (compensatory pick from NFL)

So out of all those 7th rounders we ended up with Jermaine Haley who was a backup DT and Brandon Fields who we've ended up with 2 years of mediocre punting and a backup QB who blossomed some away from here.

If this guy makes the roster final cuts then he's already out performed the vast majority of 7th rounders.

That looked classless to me. I hope he plays with the same tenacity on the football field. However, I still never liked a cheap shot. I hoped he has learned to control himself and redirect his anger.

I have a hard time following the action in the video but it looked as though the kid he knocks out intentionally shoves him as he left his feet for the shot. I don't agree with the behavior but coming from an athlete who could've lost plenty due to some weekend wanna be Jordan in a silly pick-up game, I certainly understand it.

I like the move. We got ourselves experienced depth with freakish size for what otherwise is a long-shot, pray for divine intervention pick (or sell your soul to Lucifer pick if your Belichick).

I don't know when having size at any position became a curse in the NFL. I never got that memo.

At age 24, it's really a no miss move for a 7th rounder, especially when we have 3 of them. His NFL experience is just a plus and the lack of playing time so far isn't a concern due to how talented the Jax DL was while he was there.

Definately has some anger management issues in that video, but some DL / OL coaches like that.

He sure moved well for such a big guy. Very athletic.

I was referring to the post that said he was too tall and would be abused by "all" undersized lineman as far as his 6'7" height. I was speaking in general terms not just about the NT spot.

Its really too bad we traded away that 7th rounder. That player could have been the next player find who's name we would have forgotten in the next five or ten years. Good thing we still have two more 7th rounders so we may still find a couple of those forgettable players, so we can reflect back on the 7th rounder we threw away on McDaniel.

I'm really surprised at how some people are so upset over trading a 7th round pick. I mean, honestly, aside from inflating the overall # of draft picks a team has and giving teams a chance to take a flyer on a player who may or may not stick to the roster, 7th rounders aren't worth much. I was going to go back through and post some history of the 7th round but someone has already done that. So I guess all I really have to say is that while I agree that not having a 7th round pick is a bad thing as there are project players and diamonds in the rough in the 7th the greater majority of players in the 7th will never make an impact in the NFL. Also we have 2 more.

But considering the fact that the averages favor you to NOT land an impact player, or in all actuality a player that will be on your roster after training camp, couldn't we all agree that finding a Dlineman with that kind of size and athletic ability who's only 24 and already has 3 years of NFL is, at the least, not the worst trade in the history of the NFL?

I understand the injury concerns. Lord knows that the fins have been burned by injuries in the past. But if last year was any indication we have a very good conditioning program in place that will go a long way to keeping him healthy for a long time. And of course that contributes to his lack of playing time which is also a concern but the fact that he was even on the Jacksonville roster who has....or had....one of the best and deepest Dlines in the NFL should at least give you a hint as to his potential though it may not yet be realized.

So in summation, it's only a 7th and we could have done a lot worse.

And how come 2 years ago when Cam Cameron was making all these assanine moves the general sentiment was "I'll trust him. He must know what he's doing." But when a PROVEN front office who has gotten RESULTS already, especially in the amount of results that they have, trade a 7th round pick a lot of people are ready to jump ship and sell this season off?
