http://www.universaldraft.com/3_9_2009_CK_s_Blog.php Georgia Tech's Pro Day is today. Dolphins officials had dinner with Michael Johnson last night. I find that to be very telling...
I work at Ga. Tech and his size is decieving. He is very tall, but not as bulky as you might think. He would definately spend a lot of time in the weight room in the pros, but he is really a good character guy with a good head on his shoulders and a lot of talent. Wouldn't be suprised to see him added to the roster if available.
Very interesting piece, CK. Thanks. At this point, what are the odds that he'll still be on the board at 25? Might some other teams (i.e. Patriots) view him as undervalued considering the tumble his stock has taken recently?
Seems like a more risky pick with the potential to be very productive in the NFL or could be a complete dissapointment. I guess it's obvious he's on our radar, but where he gets selected might be the more telling story. I personally wouldn't be dissapointed with using a first day pick on him, even if it's 25. you gotta take shots and Michael johnson seems like a high risk high reward type of player. I'm confident our coaches could get the most out of him.
That's pretty cool that you have a somewhat close up view on him and you believe he is indeed a good character player. Can I use you as a source? BTW you're right, he's a 6'5" guy with a 6'7" neck.
Sure, I don't really get to talk to him or any of the other athletes on a regular basis as the school frowns upon it. When I run into him from time to time he's always polite and doesn't come across as arrogant and just small talk in passing. Doesn't come across as the kind of guy you're going to read about for getting himself into bad situations.
thats good to hear he is a good character guy, as that has been questioned due to his desire. those things dont always work hand and hand. i questioned before whether we could pass on a talent like him at 25 with his potential. its hard to say at this point.
I know, I could that one later and just haven't edited it out yet. There's also a line later in the blog where I wrote "the the" instead of "that the", which is easily one of the three most common mistakes I make in my writing. I was in a hurry to get it pushed out. The whole piece took me maybe 20 minutes to write and I didn't have the opportunity to even do a critical reading before I put it out there. Overall I'm kind of impressed I only made those two mistakes.
Here's a good interview on him deciding to stay for his senior year. http://profootball.scout.com/2/761503.html
Nice piece CK. I think teams that haven't heard of him before, might take a look now that we had dinner with him. I'm looking forward to read about his pro day. I liked your stats of him -vs- Clay Mathews. Good work. EDIT: I noticed you didn't have him in the first rd of the mock draft. Do you think he slides to possibly us in the 2nd?
The Mock is my Mock Draft, not the consensus of all three of us. I need to make that distinction and will do so. Sorry for the confusion. We would like to have another Mock to go against it sometime soon, but we'll see how it come about. Lotta content to add in a hurry.
Sounds like he is pretty smart and has his head on straight. He is an intriguing prospect. I somehow don't think he will last past the first round, especially now that Parcells has shown interest. Gill Brandt may have hit the nail on the head with hhis insight on Parcells.
