Lane, thanks for the tip. Long time no see, used to be active on the RealGM boards. Still check in daily but don't post much.
Sorry in advance for the aggression, but that's what the **** I'm talking about. This is what I've been DESPERATE to hear. Let's get this done.
Man, I was on the Eric Green bandwagon, but hell I just jumped off and landed nice and smooth on the Mcfadden train, let's get this done please! Wonder if Joey Porter would lobby to get him here, or make a call to Mcfadden and have a little chat with him about signing here?
Miami has been linked to Mcfadden, Bodden, Green and were gonna sign Florence before he decided to go to the Bills. It shows me is gonna address the CB position via FA. Mcalister, Ivy and Carr are all still out there. Carr would not be a bad option a KR and young player with plenty of upside, but that is only if we dont sign Mcfadden. I really really hope we sign Mcfadden.
Yeah i try to make it over that way a good bit, just don't have much time to post. Hard to keep up with a lot of the stuff with so much stuff going on. Back in my prime, I was in high school, so there wasn't much else going on in my life besides sports. I still follow the team closely but don't have the time to read the boards, read the Miami newspapers, etc.
MCFADDEN TALKING WITH FOUR TEAMS: we Are one of them! Thank god he's is my #1 choice at corner via FA, and we need a corner bad. EDIT Merge please sorry
was looking at his stats on nfl.com, and didn't really see a huge difference between him and andre goodman. can't really tell how many times he was scored on or how many times it was thrown his way. wonder how much different these guys are, can someone with a little more insight explain this to me?
You can't judge a NFL CB from NFL.com. Best way to get a good idea is to go read what the Pittsburgh fans say at footballsfuture.com. They're concerned with losing him and he's in the mix for their 1 CB spot, but more likely their 2. He'd be a good signing that's all there is to it. I just hope we have the cash long-term. I'd prefer to sign him to something between 5-6m. His offers have been pretty crappy and considering he lives here, the Steelers aren't offering him that much, and the Fins have the advantage of some very affordable real estate lately and less taxes----> we stand a good chance. The Cardinals' offer is pathetic it's between 3-4m. The Eagles won't give him a starting job. It's between us and Pittsburgh.
Everyone knows we're in dire need of a cornerback, as the phins are super thin back there. Hopefully we don't break the bank for someone. On another note, the disappointing 40's times for cornerbacks in the draft, I'm kinda hoping Vontae Davis or Malcolm Jenkins falls to us.
This is great news! I really hope we can land him, it would be huge for our defense. Get it done guys!
Great news, would be awesome to land him and would fill a huge hole. We still need at least 1 drafted CB for depth and youth, but this would allow us to keep him in a nickel or dime spot for a year at least. A big difference between Goodman and McFadden btw Id have to say is youth. Unless im totally forgetting somethin McFadden is quite a bit younger than goodman. If we cant get him, we need to go hard after Bodden and/or Green, there really isnt much else out there. Ivy is rumored to be courting the Jets (Rex Ryan connection again) and McAllister is done.
He's only 27 years old. I didn't realize he was that young. This would be awesome if we could sign him!
The other good thing about McFadden, is that the CBs responsibilities are very similar between the two Ds. McFadden could step in fairly quickly...
Here is some stuff about him from Tony Pisano's top 50 NFL corners from 2008, after he watched all 256 NFL games. And here is Andre Goodman by comparison: And Will Allen:
I think the Dolphins pass rush was similar to that of the Steelers, so maybe McFadden wouldn't have a drop in production. As long as we don't go backwards in talent I'm all for it. We need a Lamarr Woodley, maybe Cameron Wake can be that guy.
I'm hoping that the Triumverate pulls the trigger soon to shore up the defensive backfield. Also hoping that there isn't a lot of rookies starting when the season starts. Don't know if theres success in that formula.
Please god let it happen,,the addition of McFadden would simply mean we didn't had any other 'huge' hole to fill. 2 years after being 1-15.
Exactly..but HUGE hole right now I'm considering only starters...of course depth is important,, but then it's minor holes, and those we still have a ton to fill....we're on the right track though, it seems
I agree with your short depth analysis by that assumption we'd need right now: 1 CB (Starter) 1 T (depth) 1 DT (depth) 1 ILB (depth) 1 S (depth) 1 DE (depth) Just to make an overall solid squad... imo we could add another OLB too, a WR or a better ILB option to start, though that could wait until next year so adding McFadden, we'd have to find 5 depth guys through draft. Not hard to. Not to mention that we could add another body (or a couple more) via FA which would put us in even better draft scenario
I would like to add two corners from the FA (one projected starter and one solid depth guy) and then draft another.
its a ****ing joke that we arent getting a corner knowing that we have to match up against some good guys WRs in our division. cotchery, welker, moss, evans, and now TO
Is there some kind of *****ing disease infecting this forum. I'm so sick of this complain crap. Fans complain more now that we actually have a decent team than when we were 1-15. Give it time. At least we have one weakness. Other teams have far more.
I am sorry but we need a true #1 WR. I dont really see anyone really arguing for that. Ginn and the others are very solid #2s...all of them...but we need a solid #1 WR and watch how suddenly Ginn becomes 'super' and everything on offense is that much easier to run. On offense that is our biggest weakness. CB on defense. The rest is just depth.
indeed a true #1 WR would solidify the offense. but Tony showed that we can run an effective offense without a true #1 WR for now. Maybe not a potent enough offense to beat super defenses like Baltimore's though,, but an offense that will be able to score 20+ points on most defenses Thats the difference between adding a CB and a WR now imho. The WR is more of a luxury if compared with the CB need We will get burned badly if we don't add a (#1/#2) CB. We have Will Allen, a question mark Jason Allen and then a lot of scrubs to play cb... I'd welcome a #1 WR, but I have the sense that Ginn and Co. can handle the job for now, considering we added some beef to OL which should improve pass protection and the offensive production overall
IMO it would be a great move and then we could draft another CB and we would be a very good team and Draft Nicks in the first round
and that was something very atypical. i guess somebody is going to cut a pro bowl corner and hes going to land in our laps. whatever
