Yes. Because it is still in them. No matter how long they stay off the sauce they are still one moment of weakness from sending their lives back down the tubes. Which isn't to say that there aren't people who get their lives together. There are, and that is terrific for them. But it is always there.

Then I'm afraid that's your philosophy and woe to any who might look for support out of someone with that mindset. All right, I think we've let this philosophical debate gone on long enough. Should get back to the matter at hand (the draft thoughts).

The bottom line is there is not an excuse on the planet for beating your wife and child. That is just a literal abomination.

I agree. There is no excuse for that. But there shouldn't be an excuse to keep holding back someone forever for that act.

He won't be held back too much...someone will take him and early at that. Doesn't mean I want him.

Then we better hope NE doesn't take him. They have quite a track record redeeming players like Randy Moss.

Drinking alcohol vs attacking a woman and a kid. Self harm vs other people harm.

    Great analogy.

Sometimes they're related. But that is beside the point. What I'm trying to do is show that if a guy doesn't do something bad anymore, has atoned for it, and has even been lauded for his progress, he shouldn't be held against it for the rest of his life and forever be labeled by it. Understood?

After the allstar game and combine look for Ryan Clady to beat out Jake Long for the #1 OT prospect. You heard it here first. I think we take him. if we trade down a few.

You only know that he's atoned because his girlfriend hasn't said anything.

    Abused spouses rarely do.

Wrong. You don't know what I know. A while back, I asked 2 of my old friends who go to IU and intensely follow their football & basketball programs. They said it had nothing to do with his girlfriend not saying anything. He took a pretrial diversion program and received counseling in communication improvement and anger management at his own expense after the trial. And they forwarded me these articles on Hardy's redemption in the local papers:

What's the success rate of character reclamation projects? The draft's enough of a crap shoot as-is, let alone when you start taking players with as many off the field questions as on the field questions. Look at Cincinnati... how have they been doing with a talent over character philosophy?

Look at New England gambling on headcases Moss, Dillon (probably a good example of how people change once they leave Cincinnati). LenDale White's another one who has had some character issues coming out. Eric Wright's another (and he was charged with rape too). They've done well and so far are trouble-free. And you know, even those who have no records in college end up getting themselves in trouble (i.e. Santonio Holmes). The bottom line just comes down to how well you can evaluate a candidate. That comes down to how well you can judge a person in an interview, whether you ran a very thorough background check, asked all the right people, essentially do everything a prosecuting attorney would do to get the best information available.

To me, I'd rather draft the guys where all I'm worried about is how they'll fit in my 3-4 defense, west coast offense, or whatever I'm running, not whether or not they'll ever get arrested again.

When I'm spending time asking them things like "What did you learn from the incident where you hit your wife and child?" or "Why did it take jail time to get you to realize you should never physically harm a woman or child?", that's the first clue that there's probably a better candidate for the job.

Time like that won't be as much as analyzing game tape. Just a quick phone call or two to the coach and others, using standard interview time with players, etc. Delegate it to someone you trust if you have to.

Of course, there aren't a lot of WR's 6'7 with Hardy's abilities. With the lack of a big WR target on the squad ala Keyshawn or TO, I could pay a little more attention to guys like Bowman, Sweed, Kelly, and Hardy. Those 4 I'd tab as potential targets of interest.

Did those journalists live in the Hardy household?

    Answer: No.

It had everything to do with his girlfriend not saying anything.

I keep hearing that Hardy beat his one year old kid. Is there any proof of this other than the woman's statement? It seems common sense that if he did there would be bruises or cuts on the kid and if there was there is no way he would have been let off. He would be in jail. Forget about being suspended, he would be doing hard time. Maybe I'm wrong here but I dont think the Indiana police are going to let Hardy go if a one year old kid is beat up

No, but then again, they don't assume I'm a terrorist off the bat and start treating me like one.

Do you live in the Hardy household? No. So what qualifies you from saying that his girlfriend's not saying anything is the reason? I've given you articles and quotations from his own coach, members of the community all praising how he has changed. Where are your facts that are pertinent to this case?

You can stop the insults because I don't support beating women and children and have repeatedly said that I don't support it and think that it is wrong. And yet you keep harassing me with an utterly false statement that I have repeatedly spoken against. I find that last comment in total distaste.

Edit: Seems like the mods have removed the comments I had referred to.

Hardy actually did go to jail for 3 days after the initial arrest (made bail later). Only a minor bruise was found on the baby that was deemed to be unrelated to the incident by officers at the scene. Evidence of a phone in 4 pieces, cord unplugged. The woman, Kyra Nolan, had red marks and both were questioned about it. Hardy claimed it was him pushing her away which corresponds to the rips on his shirt. I will also note that there was a witness to all this, Nolan's brother. No mention of whether he had corroborated their statements but considering the dismissal, it's likely. All this could've been easily dismissed and easily proven as circumstantial by even fresh-out-of-law-school lawyers. Main thing is, unless we're God, either of the Nolans, or Hardy, we'll never know what happened and all we have is a court's decision and the aftermath.

Well parcells went down to VT to tell em bout that but i doubt itll affect his decision that much.

BTW, if Talib is a cover 2 then why are we even talking bout samuels? esp the sun sent. and such (PS: didn't we let madison go b/c the cover 2 wans't to his strenghts of man to man? i thought we swtiched to cover 2 unti lthis year where it was man to man.)

If I can add another suprise to the workout list.

Calais Campbell - his workouts will shoot him to the top of the list.

Geez, I am getting a headache from my blood pressure going up reading this thread. Give it a break...PLEASE. Guy is a 24K a$$, maybe he is a reformed 24K A$$, some things are unacceptable to me personally, justify and slit hairs all you want with the rehab garbage, one incident BS.

You are what you are...if you do not want to live with your acts...I got a great idea...don't do it!!!!! Who said character is what you do when no one is looking?

I wish you could read my old threads on McMike and just one of his "incidents" where the mean ole cardboard box gave his wife bruises and cuts...and everyone justified that also.

Polish a turd it is still a tur...DDDDD.

The matter at hand is this is not the #1 overall prospect, there are other recievers and many many other players with compable grades that slot right where he would if he did not have issues...TAKE ONE OF THEM INSTEAD AND AVOID THE POTENTIAL FOR "RELAPSE"!!!!!!

Also Parcells is not going to take potential "character issue" guys....the end.

Regan, It looks to me like you are a pretty good guy with some morals and agree with most of us on the "other side"....BUT and i say this respectfully since we do not know each other...

I am getting pretty freakin tired of the societial condemnation of acknowledging events and it's touchy feely bias everywhere where. We cannot acknowledge things that happen because it ...sends the wrong message, we are not forgiving and it may "hold someone back", we are bad people etc. etc..etc....

If you beat your wife...guess what...at one time you beat your wife....maybe someone gives you a second chance...would not be me...wanna prove you are rehabilitated...start your own league............draft yourself #1........

since analogies are so big in this thread...here is one...I ran 4 pretty large companies...I hired people, women in particular...I can hire a well qualified, hard working babe, or I can hire a well qualified, hard working woman that looks like a cross between Steven Tyler and my butt....now why in the world would I hire Butsy Tyler? My point is you are what you are......lets hire 53 hard working quality team guys and let the rest end up playing in the florida Department of Corrections League against the guards.... I trust Parcells to figure out which guys are best to go on the field with and which guys are Butsy Tyler's.........
