Another solid episode of 24. This season is very good so far. It's amazing how good of a show it could be when the writers sit down and plan everything out instead of writing 2 episodes at a time on the fly. I did get mad when the President didn't immediately pardon Jack, the guy only saved the country and possibly her husband yet she still needs to talk it over with the Senator? Tony is pretty sweet this season, I'm really digging his mysterious/semi good/semi bad character. Plus he looks like a bad ***. Can't wait for next week's 2 hour episode, although I'm a little worried about the attack on the White House but we'll see how it's played out.
True but it's the premise of it. Outside of TV land and into the real world.... We just had a president close an interrogation camp for terrorists that more than likely did much less than Jack Bauer has ever done. Seeing that, it's not as overdone as you'd think. I love this show, always have. Every season I refuse to watch, wait for the DVD's to come out and lock myself up for a week watching it all at once. Couldn't stand to wait this season though so I'm watching weekly. Was actually giddy to hear next week was a 2 hour special..... pathetic I know.
me too. anything involving an attack on the president has a serious chance of going way over the top. juma is in the US now? what on earth
Completely agree. I know when watching the show I have to suspend reality a bit but I'm sorry I just can't see how anyone can attack a government building (CTU) a few times and now the White House. I really wished that 24 would hold off on a President being attacked this season and also the mole thing since they happen all the time, I could live with the mole part because it fits with the storyline but why another attack on the President? It's happening in every season now and is completely unrealistic. With that being said I'm still enjoying the season.
nothing beats the chinese militia coming in through the sewers lol i suppose it is conceivable that a couple of dozen well trained guys with semi automatic weapons can get into a lot of places. but even movies make a successful bank robbery damn near impossible...never mind getting into the white house. i still dont understand how juma is in the US. that means he must have been their all along
Yeah Juma being in the US is certainly a surprise, because you know, his country is about to get attacked and taken over by the US so you'd think he should be back home fighting. And apparently no one watches the news enough to recongize either Juma or Dubaku to let them not only come into the US but walk around in public. Especially Dubaku who after he crashed two planes was able to walk to his girlfriend's work place, into a building, into a lobby of a hotel room etc and not get noticed.
yeah, kind of makes you wonder who is running the roost....unless.....maybe its jon voight running things in sangala? idk i at first thought it would be plausible to keep things quiet about dubaku because the president would not want people to know exactly what was going on to prevent public outrage but not anymore not to mention this isnt a typical day in the white house. planes are blowing up in DC. and, this is the 24 universe where just about every president has had their life threatened and been attacked. one would think natural protocol would have humvees and marines stationed on PA ave. with .50 cals pointed at anyone who walks by
Anyone else as surprised as me to see Jack at the end of the episode kickin back and relaxin on the steps?!
Yeah Tony should have tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Hey Jack what are you doing, we still have 14 more hours left, so you better not be hungry yet and hopefully you're bladder is doing well right now. Let's go."
24 is the rarest of shows -- one which, even as it jumps the shark, introduces the shark to the audience as a recurring character. Translation: it just gets more and more preposterous and self-referential, and WE. DON'T. CARE. Take as proof the definitive exchange from earlier this season: PRESIDENT: How do I know where your loyalities, lie, Jack? JACK: With all due respect, Madam President, ask around. On paper and in any other context, it would be the corniest, hokiest line ever. But I would be surprised if there was a 24 devotee who, in its wake, wasn't high-fiving the nearest fan.
Agreed. 24 usually jumps shark at least once or twice per season but always rebounds. Yes since probably Season 3 the plots have been insane and totally unrealistically, even for TV, it still pulls you back in and wanting more. I think a lot of credit goes to the writers and as much crap I know I give them they do a great job overall.
But might 24 have gone too far with its choice of terrorist target in this week's double-episode? (Don't worry, spoilerphobes, we won't divulge the landmark here.) Gordon admits it was an aggressive choice, but stands by the show's execution of the thrilling sequence. "We had big internal debates about how [terrorists] would attack it credibly," he says. "I think we pulled it off, but it was a big concern." Equally daunting was the degree of peril in which the 24 writers place the show's first female POTUS. "I know people get hinky sometimes, and I hope we don't make too many of them uncomfortable," says Gordon of what happens toward the end of the second hour. "If you look at it from an emotional context, the story is about a mother and a daughter reconciling after an estrangement ... and in the end, she gives herself up for her daughter. At least that's what you think. But [her dilemma] is excruciating."
It started out slow but the last hour was great IMO. The ending kind of took me by surprise, I thought they'd get out of it for sure. Awesome ending and now the wait until next week is gonna be tough. The President has really grown on me too. Don't know why, maybe it's because she does have some faith and loyalty towards Jack, but I'm into her now.
I thought the 1st hour was pretty good but the 2nd hour was a pure filler episode, you could have put the TV on at 9:55 and wouldn't have missed a thing. I do think the attack was a little laughable on how they entered the building though. Oh well. Jon Vought's character has a lot of potential to be a good villian that 24 hasn't had since well..... Season 3 (unless you want to count President Logan in Season 5).
it's laughable because the president didn't use any of them to get away, but the bad guys had no trouble at all using one to get in... i am supposed to believe that all the prez has it his or her disposal is a panic room with one way in and one way out, like any upscale condo in manhattan? also, they couldn't find anyone bigger, tougher, or older looking looking to play the henchmen??? all those dudes looked to be about 12. don't get me wrong, though, it is still 24, and i am still going to enjoy every moment of Jack Bauer killing them.
he was a consultant on a couple previous seasons, and this season is seemingly combining the plots of two really good Vince Flynn novels; "Transfer of Power" and "Extreme Measures." both are great reads, with a Jack Bauer type hero character.
Charlestonphan pretty much covered it but I will say that I'm almost 100% positive that there is no water underneath the White House, therefore they wouldn't have been able to gain entry. I would believe that even if there was there would be cameras scanning the waters. There are cameras all over the White House in every room at every angle, Juma's man never would have made it past the first room they entered. There was just so many things that were so unrealistic in that episode it was got funny. I mean they made their way through the White House like it was a country club. The only thing I have to say about Charlestonphan's comments about the hencemen looking 12, if you remember in the TV movie they take children in South Africa very young and brainwash them and train them, therefore its not out of possibility that the hencemen were in fact teenagers or in their early 20s.
stupid stupid stupid. why let her out. makes no sense. the only thing the show tried to pull off for reason was jack thinking about his stupid idiot daughter kim
Amazing episodes! this is by far the best season yet! Yeah some things may be beyond believable, but thats why when you watch these thing you need to stretch your imagination and not worry about the flaws, its more enjoyable...What tv show does not have any flaws? With something like 24 its hard not too. I can't wait for next weeks episode!
just got off work from yesterday evening I have not watched the show yet and was tempted to read the thread but I didn't Off to bed then PVR time by 5
While I agree with this post and I know I nitpick a lot, I do wish 24 tried to stay as realistic as possible but that was all thrown out the window in Season 4 and the writers haven't looked back since. Maybe that's why I love Seasons 1, 2 and 3 so much because it was pretty believeble for the most part. With that being said I enjoyed Seasons 4, 5 and 7 so far very much. I just think sometimes the plot and some of the action scenes get a bit silly but again I tend to nitpick a lot.
You gotta remember that it's television, that have to stretch things in order to keep it interesting or to keep it from going stale. After pulling off crazy, unreal things in past seasons, they have no choice but to continue it and look to make bigger splashes.
Yeah, but by the time they knew the White House was under attack, they barely got to the first floor let alone down to a tunnel
I thought this season was excellent until hour 2 of yesterdays double episode. It was the first time this season I had to suspend disbelief. The hole taking hostages in the white house just doesn't seem plausible.
If anything here is the biggest flaw of them all, why no phone in the safe room? So they can contact FBI and let them know they are safe? But agian, its not enjoyable thinking about all these flaws...its a TV show...
Are you sure there wasn't a phone? I remember Jack mentioning that they had cut off their communication which probably included phones
Ethan was sent to the Pentagon by the President to set up plans for the upcoming attack I believe. I don't think he's bad afterall he wanted Jack to torture that guy to get the information. Good call, I don't remember there being a phone in there. I know Jack had a walkie talkie but somehow there was no signal in there. But you're right there should be either a phone or a device to send out a signal to the secret service.
My biggest problem with the believability (aside from the aqueducts beneath the White House) was that Col. Jujubee didn't kill Bill on the spot once he found him wearing the Secret Service trace.
i do agree, if i was Col. Jujubee, i would kill Bill. Also does Jujubee know about jack's reputation? If i was someone like Jujubee and knew Jacks rap sheet, i would kill him on the spot... No chance im going to have Jack screw things up for me like he always does
I would think Jujubee got a dossier on Jack after the incident at the Sangalan school (see Redemption).
