That's a completely irresponsible statement, noone here is going to get banned for their opinions. To insinuate otherwise is disrespectful to this staff IMO. :pity:

MonstBlitz is a good example, he and I have been on the opposite sides of many discussions and he has never been banned.

he doesn't "suck", but he isn't worth the 9th pick over all. he has not played up to his potential and isn't a true #1 WR.

Ok, I think we're misinterpreting each other here. To go back to the beginning I picked up on something that sounded like you were worried if we picked up Coles we it could affect Ginn's development and we would have to deal with "Was Ginn worth the pick" threads. I think you and I both agree that shouldn't factor in at all to the FO's thoughts on Ginn. I agree with just about everything you are saying above. My point is, if Ginn was not panning out they are not going to say, "Well a past regime spent a #9 overall pick on him." I also don't think they are not going to bring a player in just because we have a player that a past regime spent a high pick on.

Not exactly what I'm saying. All I mean is that when a new regime comes into a situation like they inherited in the Dolphins, it's a complete tear down. What has been spent on these players in the past in terms of draft picks is irrelevant. What matters is who can help the team win in the future. So a first round guy who was drafted by the old regime is judged on the same scale as an undrafted guy. IMO. I think when the FO is judging the guys they drafted there are specific reasons they drafted them when they did. They are bringing in guys that they have a specific vision for and confidence in. As opposed to not really having any idea about the guys they inherit. And they might be a little more or less patient the same way parents tend to be more or less patient with their children than with someone else's. I get what you're saying that going forward after the initial year everything should be equal. Once you decide which guys from the old regime stay and are going to be part of the rebuild everyone should be judged equally no matter who drafted them. But there has to be that original tear down where they say, "Ok, I don't care who you are or where you came from. We're judging you based on whether or not you can play football and that's it." But now we're way off track to what the original discussion of the thread was which is whether or not Coles would be a good signing. I tend to think yes, you disagree. Maybe we'll never know, doesn't seem like this rumor is any closer to being a fact one day later.

For the record I think Sparano and company realize they have a special player in Ginn. He showed significant improvement last year and there's no reason to think he can't this year. Our FO gets it. Again my only point is had Ginn NOT shown them something last year they wouldn't be worried how high a pick was spent on him.

Yeah, you're always on the wrong side of those discussions and I'm always on the right side! :tongue2: :hi5:

I hope we do sign Coles and deligate Ginn to kick and punt returns, if Coles is signed I would assume Ginn would drop to Number 4 in depth chart.

Some of you guys are plain nuts. it's like you think Ginn is the second coming of Jerry Rice. As for those of you saying wait till after his third year.

    Screw that.

I mean there are PLenty of rookies who come into the league at every postion and do very well. Sure lets wait and see. Listen Ginn is going to be a good wideout but hes not going to be the MAN like TO, Jerry Rice, or Randy Moss. Hes going to be a decent #1 on our team but on any other team he would be a 2 or 3 easily..

    Back in Miami
How many prospects at any position turn into HOF caliber players like the ones you just listed? Would Henne not being the next Marino make him an unworthy starter?

As long as he realizes his talent enough to put him on par with a #1 WR rating he'll be a success.

Ignore the facts of player development and the time period MOST prospects need to develop all you want...... may as well since few...... very few fans have any idea of it, but it dosen't mean that it's not a legit process.

Book is still open on Ted Ginn period and I've backed up my reasoning pretty solidly as to why earlier.

I'll be ready to listen to some solid assessment on him AFTER this year.

    from KFFL this morning:

    Laveranues Coles - WR - NYJ - Mar. 1 - 9:57 am et

Free agent Laveranues Coles has reportedly narrowed his list of potential suitors to the Bills and Dolphins.
The NY Daily News expects Coles to come to terms on Sunday. If so, he'll help set T.J. Houshmandzadeh's market. We suspect Buffalo is offering more money, but Coles would feel more comfortable playing with Chad Pennington. Mar. 1 - 9:57 am et

This weekend has not quite lived up to the billing ESPN had hoped.

I'm scouring the internet Kenny.

Found this in the Buffalo News: Coles finished his visit at One Bills Drive on Friday evening and caught a plane out of town.

At least it seems we're fairly certain that we think he's not in Buffalo anymore?

    :knucks:

Chad Pennington was released by the Jets last year too...and I think it's fair to say it weakened them--just because a team releases a player it doesn't mean it doesn't weaken them. Players are often released for financial reasons and that was the same in this case.

I think you're looking at the offense in terms of statistics. What Coles adds to our offense is more than that. He brings another guy who is familiar with our offense and has a fine connection with our QB. He brings experience and play-making abilities. Whether he puts up 55 catches or 85 catches, he's another fine option for our offense and another weapon.

I wonder if the ESPN radio guy who said Coles has signed a three year deal with Miami last week will get a reprimand for it, or does the company think any news for ESPN is good news.

I remember when they were a good reliable source. Lately they just throw gas on fires or generate their own news that isn't really news. It's sad. It seems to me that all the sportscasters have become celebrities and are more about marketing themselves then actually broadcasting the real sporting news.

Anyways, as the guy who started this thread, I APOLOGIZE to all my fellow Phin fans for starting this post until it was confirmed with another source.
