I offered up my two cents on the Mike Tice whispers, and even gave a shot out to finheaven!

Tice wouldn't be the first name on my personal list of coaching candidates, but if Parcells wants him, then so do I.

    What are your thoughts?

Bottom line is the guy who uttered the term "Randy Ratio" should never get a shot at head coaching again.

i'm not a Tice fan really ... I thought he looked lost and overwhelmed during his tenure with the Vikings. For a "tough guy" his teams sure found ways to get into trouble ... I appreciate that he's matured and all, but I'd be more comfortable with someone else at the helm. Let some other team give him a second chance.

He underachieved with a good Viking team. The team had no respect for him or they wouldn't have turned into a team of thugs.

If Parcells wants to mold someone, hire someone new, not a retread.

This is my problem with Tice as well. It appears that Cameron wasn't that respected either. So, I'd much prefer a coach that will whip the guys into shape and get the most out of them. Cameron wasn't that guy and I think Tice is very similar in that respect.

This seems like false logic to me. How do you know that these players "turned" into the thugs because of a lack of respect for Tice?

Did you stop to think that they were thugs the whole time, but just happened to not get caught for a while? Also, did you ever stop to think that a lot of NFL players did what Minnesota's guys did, but just never got caught?

If anything, the problem I have with Tice is that he himself is a "thug" in certain respects. After all, he was the guy trying to scalp Super Bowl tickets.

I wouldn't mind him on the staff. I'm just not sure I want him as the HC.

Why not? Randy Moss is probably the greatest weapon the NFL has ever seen.....

NO WAY!!! He is a horrible coach, bottom line... If we hire him look for this team to be in turmoil for another 10 years

Five of the eight teams that played in the playoffs this weekend were coached by "retreads".

Bill Belichick was fired by the Browns. Tom Coughlin was fired by the Jaguars. Wade Phillips was fired by the Bills. Norv Turner was fired by the Redskins and Raiders. Tony Dungy was fired by the Buccaneers.

If that's what hiring a retread gets you, hurray for retreads.

Miami should be looking at Gregg Williams. Buffalo is an extremely difficult place to win, the way their front office and scouting department are set up.

Check the police lines from when he coached, and than tell me its false logic. That team got into trouble off the field. With a respected coach, that does not happen, maybe a player or two, but not as much as it did with that team.

My point is, if Parcells wants to mold someone, he is better off getting a younger first time coach to mold, than I guy that has been a head coach and now would be on his second go around.

Belichick didn't have anyone telling him how to coach when he went to NE, he just had a good front office, which he did not have with the Browns. Tice had talent, but underachieved with it.

They had great respect for Mike Tice. The problem was he did not parlay that respect into a clear and consistent message where it concerned staying out of trouble. BTW, the police blotter mainly consisted of the infamous Love Boat party, to my knowledge.

I think you are overvaluing offensive talent and undervaluing defensive talent. They were a consistent .500 team because they were half a good team, half a bad one.

You had Koreen Robinson getting in trouble (he was new to the team), Randy Moss running over metermaids. There was Smith with his Whizzinator just to name a few.

First off, Koren Robinson is an alcoholic complete with rehabs under the belt, jail time, etc. I don't care how much a guy like Mike Tice demands respect, an alcoholic is an alcoholic.

Second, if you keep supplying the guy when thugs that get into trouble off the field, why act surprised when they continue to do so? Everyone familiar with Onterrio Smith knows that was by NO MEANS his first run-in with Trouble with a capital T, nor was it any kind of surprise.

So does all the drug abuse and partying done by Lawrence Taylor and some of the other Giants defenders signify a total lack of respect for Bill Parcells?

Yes, that's one of the reasons I didn't want Parcells here, he had tons of Taylor types on that team, and he did not care as long as he was winning. That's what makes his little speech about the players he wants so funny! Half the defense was in Wallys in Bergenfield during the week with Taylor, it would blow (no pun intended) your mind what they were doing.

I think there's a big difference between how you are forced to treat a player that has already been given to you, versus your ability to prevent those kinds of players from getting on the roster period.

It is a FACT that in Dallas, Parcells and Ireland regarded character as a hot button issue, and character was the primary reason they chose Demarcus Ware over Shawn Merriman, and the reason they stayed away from Tank Johnson in the draft. When Parcells left town, so too did the character standard, even though Jeff Ireland attempted to fight it. Ireland went on public record stating the Cowboys would not be interested in Tank Johnson specifically because of character. Then he woke up the next morning and found that Jerry Jones had acquired him, without so much as a discussion. That is probably one of the reasons Ireland jumped at the chance to leave the Cowboys before the draft, which is very uncustomary for personnel people. I've no doubt the incident influenced Brian Gaine, as well, who was assistant director of pro personnel.

Glad to hear that the Tice rumor was squashed, but I couldn't drop this subject without asking, is using the Whizzinator a criminal offense? Does that show up on the police blotter?
