Pat Riley is a ****ing genius for getting a FIRST ROUND DRAFT CHOICE out of this along with Jamario Moon. Remember, Banks is no asset. Toronto wanted no part of Banks. They took the sacrifice in order to shorten J.O.'s 2-year deal down to Marion's expiring. We get Jamario Moon on a 2-3 month try out (expiring, but probably can be re-signed for cheap) and a first round pick in 2010? Sweet.

I'd like to see Riles swing a Dorell Wright + cash for Earl Watson deal now. Secure the backcourt with a solid veteran backup off the bench who can play some D. Contrary to popular belief, I actually like Chris Quinn. He knows his role and he plays it well. We're just losing too much defensively when he replaces Chalmers in the line up. The drop off is huge. I'd like to be able to rotate between Quinn and a solid vet defender on a situational basis.

 

Anyone know if the pick is lottery protected? Not that I'd expect it to be a lottery pick anyway. Just asking.

We've got Beasley ($4.9 million), Chalmers ($850k), and Cook ($2.1 million) under contract for 2010. Team option on James Jones, but you probably keep a solid defending sharp shooter for only $4.6 million.

So um, yeah, we're going to be close to $50 million under the cap.

We own Dwyane Wade's bird rights, so his re-signing is almost irrelevant to the equation. Basically, we will be able to offer THE MAX to LeBron, Amare, Bosh, Yao, etc., re-sign Dwyane Wade, and maybe even add a role player or two. Might want to look into keeping Haslem. I can't stress this idea enough......if we lose out on the guaranteed-max players mentioned above, I'd seriously be pleased with signing Joe Johnson and Tyson Chandler together. I'd love that. Can you imagine that line up? Chalmers, Wade, Johnson, Beasley, Chandler with Cook, Jones, Haslem, etc. off the bench!!

EDIT: Add two first round rookie scale contracts in the 15-30 range to the table and that probably combines to $4-6 million more.

 

I know it isn't the smartest move....because you usually like to couple a big man with your PG/SG but imagine Wade and Lebron on the same team

 

Man, we're a lock to re-sign Wade and give him a superstar partner (aside from Gabrielle Union)

Hopefully Beasley is a superstar by then as well!!

Good thing is.. as long as we're winning titles, we can dip into the tax to give Beasley the max in 2011, Chalmers and Cook a nice contract.

Honestly, I truly see Amare playing here in 2010. I see Bosh going home to Dallas. I see Wade staying put. I see LeBron close (flirting) to signing with New York, but sticking with Cleveland last minute. I could see Yao unhappy, bolting for Detroit. Same with Dirk.....I see him elsewhere.

 

i would be satified with me at PG, section at PF and you at center if we were to sign lebron.

Section can coach the team. I'll take THE ENFORCER at center because of his name alone.

The rookie/sophomore game isn't (supposed to be) taken seriously by anyone.

I've been critical of Beasley's defense, but he hustles out there.

 

Riley says we're still wheeling and dealing, and he has a target he's currently working on acquiring.

Media rule of thumb: no one watches us play unless they're absolutely forced to.

 

Or unless we are in the finals.

 

Even then a lot of the talking heads just watch the highlights, not the full games. Or if they do watch the full games, they talk about how the other team won their individual matchups, even if that team lost that night's game.

Remember, the TV sports media is based near New York and Boston. They HATE Miami.

Solid backup. Younger Lue, IMO.

 

Yup. He can't shoot, but that's OK. We've got Dae Dae, J.J., Quinny, and Chalmers to handle the shooting. Watson is a solid defender, great passer, and is simply a guy who knows how to run the floor. We need another floor manager on this team.

Our line-up as of right now is ready to take us to round 2 of the playoffs, IMO.

Wade signing an extension actually adds to our total in cap space for 2010, because the extension would begin after the 2010-2011 season. He's only on the books for $16 million in 2010, rather than opting out and signing an entirely new deal that would START at about $20-22 million (he's going to average that much with his extension anyways, so it won't hurt him financially). So yeah, all of this extension talk could actually give us the cap space to keep Haslem and/or Jermaine O'Neal (offer $4-5 million per season) in 2010 along with Wade, James Jones, Beasley, Cook, Chalmers, AMARE / BOSH. Of course we're filling out the rest of the roster with vet minimum guys; we'll have two first rounders in 2010 to hopefully add a couple of role players.

Wade is eligible for a 4-year / $86 million extension on July 1, 2009 which he said will strongly consider this summer. He's going to have a sit down with Pat Riley, so um, yeah, you know it's going to get done. He sells ice in the winter, he sells fire in hell, Riles is a hustler, baby, he can sell water to a well.

 

For this information to leak out today it only means that Wade hung out with Bosh in Phoenix and was given the OK about joining him in Miami in 2010.

 

I loved Atkins as a role player, one of the best we have ever had, IMO.
