and it has nothing to do with popularity, its when they change their entire style/approach with the sole intention of just making money.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. If they keep making the same music over and over (ala Bad Religion, and before anyone goes off, I love them, but come on, it hasn't been updated in 20 years), everyone will accuse them of being unoriginal and stagnant.

They evolve and change their sound and now they are a sellout, follower mentality.

It is what it is. If you don't like Green Day, fine by me. My life doesn't change one way or the other. And its cool unluckyluciano, I won't respond to you anymore.

I read a study not too long ago that said that people tend to prefer the version of the song they heard first, which is typically the original.

An example they used was Joe Cocker's cover of the Beatles " A Little Help from My Friends." People from an older generation who grew up with the Beatles and heard their version first, ended up liking that version better versus younger folks who were less likely to be exposed to the Beatles, who heard the Cocker version first. It was really quite fascinating.

Tom Waits is okay. He has one song that really scares the **** out of me. I don't know the name of it, but it is in spoken word and he keeps asking something like "what the hell is his name?" or something like that. Does that ring a bell?

But so many of his songs have been successfully covered by other artists that you start to get the picture that Waits' eclectic - to be kind - delivery puts people off his own material.

 

I've heard just about everything he's ever done I love his music. There are a lot of those types of songs.

Thats EXACTLY it. I knew it was a weird question in the song. I heard it about a year or so ago and thought it was rather out there, then saw that it was Tom Waits and it made sense.

And don't take this the wrong way, but it makes perfect sense that you like Tom Waits, given what little I know about your personality, you two seem like a perfect musical fit.

Again, I don't mean that in a negative way.
