It looks as if we will have a new center this season. Who of the free agents mentioned would you like to be in a Dolphins uniform come September? http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/02/10/dolphins-pondering-center-options/
Hmm that's intersting comming from Tim Graham. I hope we go after that Jason Brown, seems like a good young player.
When you get to the page, hit the home tab at the top, and it will refresh. It links to Tim Graham's AFC East Blog for ESPN.
Not so much "wasted", Satele fit very well in Cameron's offense, unfortunately we switched systems and he doesn't seem to be tailor made for it. We can still trade him away for a pick (player) or keep him for depth/competition. Either way we'll get something out of him. As far as the C position, I'd prefer Mack in the draft.
Man if Satele becomes a backup or goes to another team the trade that sent Welker to the pats doesn't look good. I know that Welker's success has a lot to do with the system he is in and that Randy Moss is on the other side but the pats probably got more out of the trade than we did.
This is good news, I believe. Our interior line sucked big time last year. We were horrible at running between the tackles. The front-office figured out the problem, and are addressing it. As for the fate of Satele, I think we should keep him as O-line depth. I'm sure he would be an adequate G or C backup if a starter had to miss a few games.
So what? Wouldn't be the first time a post-Johnson, pre-Parcells trade ended up a loser. Its all in the past. Let it go.
haha. its not a let it go thing or a thing of the past. Its a fact that still involves player on the current squad. Hopefully Satele slides to guard and uses his athleticism to make an impact. He looked great two years ago blocking downfield on screens
I think this is all bunk. The team made a point of releasing the information that Satele played with a torn shoulder this year. That type of injury tends to lower the level of your "physical play" Being a 2nd year player, new system, starting Guards going down around him and playing with a bum shoulder...... not a stretch to see why a good player could look like crap with all that going on. In addition, people have talked about Satele's size lacking yet one of the replacements talked about that we should target is Jeff Saturday. A guy smaller than Satele. We'll see what happens but just because one of these media hacks says they are desperate to replace Satele dosen't mean there's any meat to the report at all.
Well put. I won't be shocked if they go after a center, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over a PFT report.
If they want someone bigger, i dont see how we go for birk or saturday... they are both 6-3 and about 300, just like satele (although I know they are both extremely productive, but older at the same time)
Moving Satele to guard is not the end of the world. He is better suited for guard in our system & division. We would have very good depth holding on to him. Miami should just hold on to him, unless some team on draft day offers a pick & there is a player the fins want bad enough. But keep in mind that Miami must play vs. some of the BEST NT in the game today. I watched Mack & Unger have some bullrush issues during the senior bowl week. We have no idea if they are strong enough to handle our division NT, much less a playoff run through Pitt/Ravens/Chargers/etc.. So just drafting a center...does not mean we are trading away our current center. Also Satele played with an injury all season long. It had to have some effect on him. Yes he has smallish arms, but he played VERY well his rookie year in our division. The system has changed, but the division is still here...lol. The kid is young and talented, he just look lost/hesitant last season in the open. He also was overpowered more times than you want from your center. But he did those things without 2 starting GUARDS for a lot of the season. That had to have some effect as well. Brown may be the better option for Miami... UPGRADE CENTER...BUT KEEP HIM FOR GUARD!!! Smiley has some injury concerns...it is true.
Jeff Ireland "Miami looks to upgrade at all positions." Of course it does but does that also mean that we are willing to throw our other proven young players under the bus? We have many o-line issues with both guards and depth. Why on earth would we trade a good o-line body just to get a pick that may not end up being anything? Both guys who played at the end of our season need to be the worried ones here IMHO.
