I'm watching the replay now, but the camera man said we were going to be in the last 'crazy crowd' shot of the night. We went crazy on que. Turns out my seats were pretty awesome. Not only were they close, but it was the section where the fighters and their families sat! I sat next to Cung Le all night. I took pics with some of the fighters. Didn't get Dana, but I did get the ultimate: Bruce Buffer! I skipped the after party in Ybor.
Yup, it's still there. Though it's a bit different than when I used to stop by. People have been killed there in recent years. Watching the replay now, every one of those guys and the trainers was sitting in my little section at some point. It was like being a kid again, with all the fighters and such being there. Like I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be. Everybody had a wrist band. Some of the guys I talked to, I had no idea who they were. I don't know all the names-to-faces. But they were fighters. Bruce Buffer is like a cult hero of mine. He's awesome. Getting that pic was one of the highlights.
Wow...my brother moved out of Tampa about 5 years ago that was my last time there. Empire, Full moon and Luna were my faves. Sucks Empire is like that now.. The actual last time I was there was Gasparilla(sp?) in 2003, great time. Back to the topic though Neer looked great and i was very pumped he go the best of Danzig. that was the fight I was wanting to see and it went the way i hoped.
Spoiler Rumble Johnson is awesome. I love watching him fight. I hope he gets far in MMA. He def. has the skill. That being said, I absolutely cannot stand Neer, he is nothing more then a thug, and being from Iowa that in itself is an oxymoron. I wanted to see him get his teeth knocked down his throat but he was just too aggressive for Danzig. I thought he showed little to no sportmanship and await the day someone puts him in his place. Valasquez has alot of potential, I can see him getting a shot at Brock soon. Especially with the heavyweight division being so scarce in talent. Lauzon is an excellent technical fighter, I love watching him fight, the leg holds he goes for are incredible. The fill in match between Leach and Groce? (I think). Was stopped too soon, the guy on the bottom was recovering and was trying to defend himself, but the ref did what he thought was nes. All in all an excellent show. I cant wait for the Sanchez fight in two weeks! That should be a good one.
Rumble Johnson was the fighter I came to see. Dude is gonna be a force if he continues improving like this. Amir Sodallah was supposed to be on this card, but he broke his collarbone two weeks ago. Interesting about the Neer-Danzig fight. When Danzig got in the ring, he ran around and got right up on Neer, which I thought was poor sportsmanship and so did Neer. After Neer got the tap, he got up and flipped off the crowd! THAT'S why he kept getting boo'd after the fight. OT: I never knew this, but watching Dana ringside, he NEVER watches the cage. He looks at the TV monitor the whole time to see what the telecast looks like. What a waste! Just thought that was interesting.
Ok that makes a little more sense why Neer acted the way he did. I like Rumble. He is one of my favorites to watch.
http://www.fightline.com/news/mma/2009/0216/387808/fedor_emelianenko/index.shtml I honestly dont see that fight happening. I see four possible scenarios to this... 1) Fedor signs with UFC to a one year fight, beats Brock therefore proving that him > UFC HW and walks. 2) Fedor signs a one fight contract with UFC and loses to Brock therefore proving that he is past his prime, and that the critics were right all along and so on.... 3) Nothing happens. They won't agree to a contract (most likely scenario IMO) This is the most unlikely, and purely my personal speculation BUT; 4) Fedor signs with UFC to a multi fight contract, fights Brock. Win or lose he is in the UFC for few more fights. They lure him in to fight Brock, and even if Brock, poster boy for UFCs HW class loses, they still have Fedor to sell their PPV. Call it what you want, but it is an option. Bottom line, I dont see him signing a 1 fight contract with UFC, the risk/reward ratio is not in UFCs favor. Also talks about that the biggest punch he ever took was from Fujita (obviously) And talks about how Sidelnikov (protege) is still young, he is learning alot and that he wasn't happy that Sidelnikov wasn't listening to his corner.
Ok, so if he loses to Brock he's past his prime, but if he wins he's the better man? What about the option that Brock is actually the better fighter? Take away all the WWE crap and you have 60 percent of the fighters in MMA today. And ex college wrestler.
I agree. I don't think anything happens. Can't see Dana and the UFC doing a deal where they don't have the upper hand. Nobody is bigger than them (from their perspective). Any kind of finite or 1-off deal, that puts Fedor 'above' them, in a position of power. That said, they'll be meeting IN PERSON for the first time. Always better when you have meetings in person.
So you think that Brock is better skill vise than Fedor? Even if he beats him? (if the fight will happen and IF he beats him) Its like saying that because Chonan caught Silva with a flyingh scissor heel hook, makes him more skilfull fighter. The fact that he caught him wont change the fact that Silva is still amazing and that he is in every p4p conversation that goes on. Personally, I think Bob Sapp could take Lesnar. In my eyes he hasn't done to prove himself legit just yet. I was thinking that too. Fedor and Dana have never met nor spoken to each other. If they will drop their request of pulling half of Red Devil's team behind them, I think will have a better shot at working something out.
You thought so? I thought it was dreadful. The whole thing was slow for a UFC show, IMO. Stevenson is as Dennis Green would say he is exactly what you thought he was..lol. He doesn't change he's the same fighter that he has been since he started. He clearly game planned for Diego to try to move the fight to the ground, which he did not. Stevenson made no attempt to adjust between rounds and continued to get slowly dominated by Sanchez. The end of the fight pissed me off some. He's trying to get the crowd pumped up instead of working on getting Diego on the ground or something.
i was underwhelmed with Stevenson, thought he came out fairly strong in round 1, but was too 1 dimensional after he figured out he wasn't going to take Diego down. thought there were some good KO's on the undercard though.
I loved how when Joe Rogan commented how Stephenson "was smiling" after taking some strikes from Sanchez, about 2 seconds later Diego landed some of the hardest strikes of the entire night...."hes not smiling anymore"
like rogan said......stevenson is absolutley predictable....he has no weapons in his aresenal ........he punches.....and if gets you down...GNP.....sanchez played him perfectly.....
Diego was one weird cat though. He kept yelling Yes!! as he was walking down to the ring. Makes you wonder who he's saying yes to.
Re-watched it. Yeah...dont think Stevenson would of wont that fight even if it would of lasted 10 rounds. Just don't see it happening. Just like Rogan said, too predictable.
Andrei Arlovski to make Pro Boxing Debut on HBO April 11 2009 http://www.nowboxing.com/2009/02/fo...e-pro-boxing-debut-on-april-11-hbo-undercard/ From what I understand it's a three (or four?) round affair, and they don't air those on TV. Now, the fact that it is AA might force them to show it, to sell few more PPVs for the MMA fans who might tune in just to watch the fight.
Even before the Fedor fight he and Freddie Roach were talking about him making the jump. Still the actual news makes you take notice. I suppose Roach is training him for this fight. I'll be watching the main event anyway. Hopefully they televise AA.
MMA fans are going to hate boxing even more if they tune into that fight. Winky is all defense and jabs. and hes going to win in a 12 round "snoozer"....
Unless AA with knocking him cold. He has hand speed, hand power. Now how that speed and power will looked wraped in boxing gloves, thats a different story.
Randy Couture Accepts Match With Nogueira at UFC 101 http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/2/26/773018/randy-couture-accepts-matc 1 of 2 things. 1) Randy still looking for his fight with Fedor. He wants to get out of his contract and fight Fedor no matter what. 2) He wants to be the UFC HW champ again, and given the circumstances its a high propabilty IMO. If he beats nog (this fight will tell us alot about Nog, he is either tired washed up and done or he will bounce back and continue to stride), and if Mir beats Lesnar, Couture vs Lesnar II and no matter what, winner fights Mir. Win, win situation for UFC IMO. Discuss.
1. Nog looked like his will had already been broken before he even stepped in the ring against Mir. I couldn't believe how horrible he looked in the ring. I think there's a strong possibility that it's over for him. 2. I love Mir. I hope he can beat Lesnar again and take the belt back. I have my doubts though bc Lesnar looks improved everytime I watch him fight. 3. Couture needs to win his next fight or he should say Adios. I don't think he can beat any of the 3 guys in this conversation (Fedor, Mir, Lesnar).
Predictions for ton: Rampage KO Jardine Gonzaga KO Carwin Brown submits Cell Hammil KO Munoz Maynard def Miller Take em to the bank.
I'd like to see Gonzaga fight Lesnar. I think he's big enough and well rounded enough to beat him. If Gonzaga is impressive again tonight, I think it's even more of a possibility. And if Mir beats Lesnar again like I hope he does, it seems like that has to be one of the next matchups. Maybe Gonzaga gets the winner regardless. As for Randy, I think it's time to go. I know he wants Fedor, but can he really hang with him? It's not like Randy's going to get better from here on out. Hopefully we'll have Fedor news soon.
Mir said he wanted to just put the fight off for a few more weeks. I duno if the UFC will def go for that. They really don't have another Lesnar match up that would be as exciting though.
