I was thinking about this thread the other day driving home from work, I remember everyone all bent out of shape that we got blown out by the cards, and how some said we got blown out by a crappy team, and therefore were awful as well. Look where we are now... we won the division at 11 and 5, and the cards are in the superbowl

Nice to see you step up and eat some crow though

Just goes to show ya brother, what a smart archetect can do for a franchise, their fans are not better or louder then us, they just have a stadium that has the configuration that is condusive to crowd noise....A grave mistake by the late Joe Robbie.

Saying Cards and Super Bowl in the same sentance still sounds other-worldly

    :pity:

I was thrilled to see this thread bumped because I remember saying (on page 2) that the Cards did NOT suck and getting harpooned for it.

Last night I was watching something about the superbowl and this thread popped into my brain. The ole "Search" feature sure works good. [I don't have enough time to go into the Po-Fo section and find out how right I was about the election. Its more fun when you're wildly wrong]

I hope Arizona beats the steelers. The fans deserve it more. Could you imagine waiting 60+ years for your team to get to the SB. If I had to wait 60 more years to see Miami get into a SB, I'd be watching from the skies. Pitt won it what three years ago. Go Arizona!

I've been waiting 32 years for Miami to win a Superbowl. I was born in 1976.

Problem with this, is that there were basically no Cardinals fans last year, or the year before, or year before. This year, they have come out of the woodwork. Biggest bandwagon season I have ever personally witnessed. The fans that have waited 60+ years for a SB are living in STL and Chicago, not here in Arizona. A lot of people are just rooting for the local team right now and jumped on the bandwagon about midseason after it was clear they had the division and a playoff spot wrapped up. A lot of brand new jerseys and caps being sported. Arizona fans don't deserve a superbowl win, I am rooting for the Steelers!

There must be somewhere between 30,000 to 40,000 die-hard Arizona Cardinals out there. People who've rooted hard for them for the 20 years they've been in Arizona. Some may have season tickets, others don't cause they can't afford it. Those people are certainly long-suffering.

I won't argue that anyone's fans deserve a Superbowl win, but I know for damn sure that Steelers fans do not need any more reason to be pompous and big-headed. All those Steelers fans who aren't from Pittsburgh are just as big of banwagoners as the newly-minted Cardinals fans.

I think alot of us felt the same way after that game; even Sparano, and thankfully he decided enough was enough, and we ended up winning 11 out of our next 14 games

I know this much, four-five years ago they were giving away tickets to the games. They couldn't even fill FK Field when they played at ASU. They would give tickets away to students. True, many Arizona natives are fans. But most of Arizona's population are snow birds, and people from other states, those of which had previous allegiances. I can't take a poll to prove this but the exact same thing pertains with the Dbacks and why they are having a tough time finding fans and filling seats. The Cardinal Koolaid is in the tap water out here, believe it. I will say this though, Bidwell did a great job with the University of Phoenix Stadium. It's top notch. And Fitz is a beast.

I saw what your seeing in Arizona when i moved to the North East, then a few years later Bill Parcells took over the Pats and the rest is history.

No city is going to support a losing team for very long. You should be happy for all the die hard's there that get to finally see a winning/playoff team.

Were you born and raised in Arizona???

Thanks for bringing this thread back, and admitting your mistake.

We all make them. Goes to show that it's better to keep a level head after losses, AND wins. :)

Well, I grew up watching the Big Red here in St. Louis, and I have always had a special place in my heart for the Cards, even after they moved. I've always rooted for them, however hopeless the cause may have been. So, after watching the Phins do what they did, even though I wanted more and more and more of it, and now getting to see the Cards walk into the SB for the first time ever, after all they've been through, it has been a gift from the football gods to get to see all of this unfold. So very enjoyable.

You must have been young then, Cardinals have been in Arizona for a long time, since 1988 I believe. But that is awesome though. Enjoy sunday then! From 1988(i think) to 2006 they played on ASU's Field. From 03-06, I went to almost all of the games for free. On gameday, they would just give out tickets to students. If they didn't, FK Field would have been half full.

I grew up in Mattoon, IL, which is about an hour and a half away from STL. DIE-Hard STL Cardinals baseball fan here. Season tickets with my dad for many years.

Y'know, you weren't that wrong, Gardenhead...at least I and a ton of other Phins fans were equally wrong after that game.

Re what you said in your original post, the Cards did absolutely crush us, did finish 9-7 (w/in your 7-9 to 9-7 range), and did look absolutely awful at times during the season. Most people thought they were the worst team in the playoffs, the Chargers notwithstanding.

And the difference between the Phins that got killed in Arizona and the team that slaughtered the Patriots a week later was enormous. I still can't believe that first NE game.
