Early report from washington thinks the JT situation of having to take a pay cut to stay in washington won't be happening. Espn insider is reporting that there is speculation that he might want to come back to miami, if in fact he won't take a paycut to stay in Washington. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors "Of course, several of Taylor's teammates have also told La Confora that they do not expect Taylor to return to Washington under those terms, and that he'd prefer to test the free agency waters. Some have speculated that he'd like to play in a 3-4 scheme in a warmer climate, and would possibly take a discounted salary to finish his career in Miami. " I think it's highly unlikely, but I wouldn't mind JT back at a cheap price, i think he was better than his last year performance in DC. And well if he did then Parcell's would look even more genious. Get a high second round pick for not having JT for one season, then get him back with the second round pick for cheaper.
I might be in the minority, but I'd like to see JT back in Miami to finish his career. He'd be a nice situational pass rusher to compliment Joey Porter on passing downs.
I'd welcome him back with open arms, as long as he understands his role and takes a paycut. Plus he'll always be a Miami Dolphin, might as well finish his career here.
sign him for ten minutes so he can retire as a Dolphin, I am not interested in any scenario that has him suiting up here again.
If Parcells thinks he can be productive here, I'm all for it. Personally I have my doubts as to whether or not JT cares much about football anymore. Even if he does still have the talent.
I'd welcome him back. Clearly not as a starter but as a situational pass rusher I think he can still be effective.
i thought this guy was retiring after 1 more season because he cared more about acting/dancing/other stuff then football.... no thank you
This is the way I feel....he is the reason he is no longer a Dolphin. Parcells didn't push him out the door, he practically begged to be let out of here.
Ok, how about Bush going back into office would be the equivalent of hiring Cam Cameron as our coach, Again. That might be a little more accurate.
Come on back JT! Great guy great player. He'd have to accept whatever role he gets though. Would love to see him back.
more like demanded no? threatened to retire if he wasn't traded?? Stringer.. succint... I gave it the man nod and said yeah!
If JT wants to come back here and play for the veterans minimum, and he is willing to play on special teams, and he is committed to training, and is willing to be coached, then I would take him back.
I love JT for what he did for the Dolphins when he was here. And I would welcome him back if he were to sign with us, but I don't think it will happen. We're trying to get younger. And I'm not sure how much JT has left in the tank.
Sort of, we need pass rushers, JT has those skills, but he would have to accept maybe 10 snaps a game and even then, he would have to work like a madman to even make the team, there are no free passes with Tuna and Sparano. I was never a big JT fan, but if he wants to come back to Miami, at the least he would be a quality back up, and keep in mind, we were remarkably injury free last year, who knows what will happen this season?
Hell, at least I could break out his jersey again. Move it from the "throwback" section of the closet (Zach x 3, Welker, Seau, and Taylor) to the "Current and All Time Great" section (Dan, Clayton, Ricky, Ronnie). That being said, I wouldn't mind if were as a situational guy. But, it IS ESPN, so I'll believe it when I see it.
For a cheap price it would be crazy not to take him. Just use him to rush the passer on obvious passing downs.
I don't want him back... under any conditions. That being said... the chances of JT actually suiting up again in Miami would be VERY, VERY slim. There's a very large rift between JT and the top Phins brass right now... whoever you might think created that rift in the first place. That rift may just be insurmountable. Oh... and, I take it back. I'd be all for resigning JT... if we could immediately turn around and trade him for another 2nd.
What am I reading???? Special teams? Situational? 10 snaps? The guy is a premier DE in the NFL... He got hurt because he skipped off-season work outs. He finished strong this year. If he were to come back, he'll go through the program and be back to a perennial 10+ sack a year guy... He's two seasons removed from DPOY... I would love him back. I would love him starting opposite JP (Taylor, unlike JP can play anywhere and play the run). He can also play up the middle (Tiger formation) on passing downs. JT would be huge for us. Obviously WITH a paycut. But I'm really hating all of this JT hate/smugness towards him. The guy gave us all he had. He was the best player on this defense since... EVER. To pretend like Joey Porter, Roth, a rookie, whoever, is as great of a player as JT is stupid and kiddy. We'll be lucky if we ever see a player of JT's caliber ever again on defense. We need talent and we need depth. Get over yourselves JT haters.
I love the guy but I'm not sure he isn't too old for the full load anymore. If he can go a whole season still that would be great. That's the main reason I think he should be used on passing downs. I've been the first person to defend the guy when he gets bashed around here. I defended him all offseason too.
Lets definately bring him in. Its not like he could hurt us. He could make us better in situational pass rushing and help mentor Wake at the LB spot. He would definately make Porters job easier.
I could see him as a situational pass rusher. It would be foolish for a team that needs pass rush help to not even consider bringing in a guy who very recently was the NFL sack leader. Naturally there will be salary and role questions but I wouldn't shut the door on the possibility.
Miami has 1 player to rush the QB... If JT was to come back and play his final ball in Miami, that means FO & Tony think it would work. They would never even offer him a contract unless they knew for sure that he was on board a 100% with the gameplan. Make no mistake about it...Miami needs players that can apply pressure to the QB. Maimi played outstanding ball last year with only 1 person on the team that could make a play on the QB. Then that player had a rough final 3-4 games...think what Miami could have done with 2 guys applying pressure. I know that a lot of people on this board and other Dolphin fan sites have HATE towards him for what happened during the last offseason. All I have to say to them is, try to understand that the NFL is a business first and a game second. JT wanted to win a ring and not finish with a team that might not even sniff the playoffs. While Miami turned things around and don't act like you thought it was a lock either...lol. JT made the best choice for himself. He deserved that...he gave it all for $hity teams while in Miami. He is a leader and one of the greatest Dolphin players of all time. If you find yourself not being able to forgive JT...then try to think about every great player that offered to stay with a paycut and still got the boot from the team. Think about the times that he & Zach took paycuts to help the dolphins bring in some bust players. There is no loyalty in the NFL with players or teams...hell most fans even on this board bash players during the game for making a single mistake. Only to turn around and give them love the next play and say something like...I believed in you the whole time...lol.. Bring back JT and ZT...if it helps the team. If it does not then so be it...But don't bash a guy that gave you 10+ years of enjoyment while LEADING the team. Ask the players what they think of JT...you will get nothing but great talks about him. Fans are fans...we hold grudges on stuff that makes no sense what so ever...that's why we are fans and not FO staff!
I don't see him at this point wanting to work the way he would have to in order to be someone that could help us. Really, it was the same issue last year. His "offseason" isn't up to par of the Miami Dolphins. That said, if he was willing to take part and take a major pay cut, I think his wanting back in shows a level of eating crow and he's done alot for our organization. I wouldnt slam any doors. If we can take ricky back why not JT?
I would love to have him back for about 20 minutes just to retire as a phin. We have a very different philosophy now under Sparano , I don't think he would fit our re-building theme. The end of his time here was tainted with a little too much me me syndrome. We seem to be a more of a team first attitude.
Disagree, this would not be a "crow" situation, Tuna asked him if he had gas in the tank, JT said he did, we got #44 out of him, no more, no less. But yeah on the "work so hard he will wonder why he wanted to comeback to miami" part, to me if he were reacquired he would just be another shaved head brussel sprout working his *** off to make the 2009 Dolphins rosters and get some snaps when it counts. The personal stuff is whatever whatever, he can play, or he cannot, I'd love to see if he still could play in the NFL at a high level. IMO, he could...just not every down, he'd be burned out like JP was going into those last 3 games, you have to give a vet a chance to rest a bit.
Its hard to hold to much of a grudge against JT guys. He gave his heart and soul into this orginazation for so many years and was an amazing player for us. Coming off that awful 1-15 season its hard to blame him as a human not to want to get out and finish off in a situation that didnt appear to be years away from a playoff push. I think he would come here at a reasonable price, just a hunch, and there is no way anyone can tell me he wouldnt play his *** off to try and finish what he helped start and bring the trophy to Miami. Depth is always important, getting a proven player for a good price is always a smart idea when you have extra cap space, he doesnt have to come in here and save the team.
