when I used to work for Publix, man...I used to get them for "free"...it pays to have hookups in the deli

 

True. Publix deli is king lol. Love their boneless chicken as well.

 

eh i stay away from their chicken. gives me the runs for some reason

 

ive loved them since i was a kid. i grew up on classic rock from the 70s and 80s so naturally when i got older i have a lot more appreciation for the classics.

I worked for Publix part-time for 22 years.....6 years at the Monza store ( # 66 I think ???) in the Gables and for 16 years at # 93 (I think that was the number) on Miller Dr at SW 94th Ave. I worked for them starting in 1976 when I was in High School, and finally retired in 1998 working the money room/back office/front office.

It was tough juggling going to school at the U of Miami during the day and working at Publix 2 nights a week and then on Saturday. Begininng in 1986 we added Sundays as well. By then I was working for Southern Air Transport, til 1987, then from 1987 to 1994 at the U of Miami. Since then I have had my own business, but for 4 years I had Publix to supplement my income until I got it off the ground.

I have no idea why I shared all of this with you guys, but oh well, what the hey

worked there a grocery/dairy/frozen food(i did it all) clerk for 3 years(felt like 10!) and that led me to take a job for a grocery distributing company merchandising specialty products.

 

better yet a West Virginia Dog at Arbetters on Bird Rd and SW 87th Ave

Coolness ! Then you know what the deal is with them. Actually not the worst place to work for really. I worked bagboy from age 16 to 18, then grocery from 18 to 22, then cashier from 22 to 32, then office from 32 to 38 when I retired.

For the 16 years I worked at the Miller Dr store, had the same hours (except when we added Sunday in 1986). Tuesday & Thursday from 7pm to close (which as you and I know doesn't mean 11pm but when we finally walk out the door at 12am or later ) and Saturday & Sunday 6am to 2pm.

Miller Dr store had/has the best Bakery in the whole friggin' chain. No one beat the homemade donuts and creulers (spelling ?) and the Cuban pastalitas with guava and cream cheese.......ahhhhhhhhhhh those were the days

theres good things about them and bad things. good things are benefits and the stock. bad things are pay, hours, being overworked due to certain circumstances, managers not willing to hire more help/move weaker employees who hinder progress(partially due to corporate), and too much manager turnover that hurts people who want to advance by building a rapport. i found at my store the only way you could was by striking at the right moment. i had to leave because i was having too many issues with me somehow being responsible for other's peoples crappy work. good thing i found a better job doing basically the same thing for much more money and better benefits. its a good company to work for, but unless your store is working in order, youre not going to get far. unless you like having to transfer to 10 different stores(it looks like you did lol). i hated having to restart everytime a new management team came in, so I went and found something that works better for me.

Nawwww I only transfered once. From Monza store in the Gables to Miller Dr store at SW 94th. I was never looking to make Publix my career though. It was always just the extra job. I took time off here and there for a couple of weeks at a time when I had big projects to do with my genealogical studies and business. My manager was Mr Campbell at the Miller Dr store, and he was cool to work for. He knew I was working a 2nd job and that I was exhausted many times, so he never rode my azz on anything much. I was a great cashier, always top 3 every week in effiency and alsos in gross receipts per hour. I also can claim the fact that my drawer was never off more than 25¢ except for one time, when I screwed up a $ 50 Christmas Gift Certificate, and gave them back $ 37 and change, and I was only supposed to give them back $ 12 and change Boy I never heard the end of that one. But it was the only major mistake I ever made.

 

If you hadn't spiked my virgin strawberry margarita I wouldn't have!

 

I worked for Publix from the time I was 14 to 18...god I miss those fine a$$ cashiers.




I also happen to know what a West Virginia dog is being that I am originally from there.

 

i wasnt planning on making it my career, but when I was in college I needed as much money as I can, even if that mean not having a life and it didnt work out the way i had planned it, but it worked out for the better and now im making more than most entry level jobs pay.
