JASON PHILLIPS: this is a guy i like a lot.... hopefully round 3-4 we can get. he's played for 4 years at TCU, disrupts the backfield, plays hard with lots of instincts. is a very good tackler and has solid speed and a good punch up front against blockers. an awesome leader and a great worker. now he might struggle in coverage due to speed and also wont be the best blitzing linebacker too. but if you want a guy making play after play, and aggressively filling holes and getting into the backfield, this is the type of guy.
I don't know that much about him, but from what you said he sounds A LOT like Roth. He might be a good later round pick-up though. It's like a Love/Hate relationship with Roth though; he plays the Run and sets the edge so well, but he has a really hard time getting to the QB on blitz's. That kills the vercitility our 3-4 because teams know to only worry about Joey Porter on the blitz and can take him out of the game (in the last 3 games he had 0 sacks I think).
He's nothing like Roth. He's a 3 down linebacker with the ability to cover down the field. Often around the play, he looks like a bulked up Zach Thomas.
What ever happend to that DE/OLB from TCU last year that wasnt all there in the head? i cant think of his name, he could rush the passer though
you are thinking of OLB- Tommy Blake. i liked him too, but had some issues himself. good athlete, and a hard worker (when he was around) he basically went undrafted in 2008 and i not sure if he tried for many or any teams.... has had no appearances from what i have known on any teams rosters or scout teams.
