Everyone speculating as to why Parcells made a rare appearance at the senior bowl, and I think many people have missed the obvious... He is looking for the next LT / Demarcus Ware...

Parcells prides himself on finding and developing special linebackers. IMO, he is there to give all the linebackers there the Tuna Eyeball Test...

That being said, which LBs do you think he might be targeting?

    Cushing?

I think he's there to take a more hands on approach to the team not just linebackers..

with that said I agree that he's eying up linebackers and if the parcells tendency holds true....

I don't think he'll pick Cushing because of his injury history.

Just watching the South practice on NFL Network and they are showing Parcells and Sparano once again......this is the 3rd practice I have seen, and this is the 3rd time they have shown Parcells.

Wow ! The guys on the NFL Network seem to think his being there is special too. This is a great sign we are getting back to being a REAL NFL franchise again.

Its his first Senior Bowl in five years I believe, when a "football god" comes rarely and is present, it will be all over the news. That said, I don't think its just linebackers. We have quite a few holes and I'm sure that he's there to look at other positions as well. In reference to the targets, there are a lot of guys he could be looking at. To list them, I would say Brian Cushing of USC, Clay Mathews of USC as well, Connor Barwin is probably on the list - even though he has spent time at TE at the Senior Bowl - , Cody Brown from Connecticut, Larry English of Northern Illinois, Tim Jamison of Michigan, Clint Sintim of Virginia, you have to wonder if Will Davis of Illinois gets a look and Lawrence Sidbury of Richmond. I'm not exactly sure what you meant by "targeting" but I think those guys will definitely be looked at.

Depending what they do in free agency, i believe Clint Sintim is the guy Parcells is watching.

He may very well be there because A: there are a LOT of holes to fill, B: this team needs a really good draft to inject the talent needed for us to go 11-5 again next year with so much harder a schedule, and C: because he figures to leave soon so he is "teaching" Sparano and Ireland.

Dear God I hope I'm wrong about C. I do think even if he stays it can't hurt for Sparano and Ireland to watch Bill in action at this kind of activity/environment. I hope either way that Bill is teaching them big time about talent evaluation.

Oh yes, we need a LB too!

Hmm...perhaps Tuna is looking at Matthews jr. as a guy to make up for not taking Chris Long last year?

And either way, it is nice to see us receiving positive coverage in the offseason.

how about him being there also to be a part of this '09 franchise, and working for it!!!

hopefully he is checking out ILB!!! with the signing or Wake, i dont see us going for an OLB so early in the draft like a Cushing.

Well hopefully we can find a playmaking LB in the draft. IMO an effective run stuffing, and more importantly pass rushing and covering ILB is top priority. Presently our linebackers cant cover for ****

I agree with you 95%. If it would be a 4-3 system i would agree 100%. But in 3-4 if we cant get pressure on qb, we cant do jack. OLB in 3-4 are pass rushers, run stuffers. You may object that it is not like that all the time, and I will agree...but more often than not olbs in 3-4 are pass rush/run stop first.

I agree, I IMO though toward the end of the season, the main culprit was Pasqualoni; his blitzes, stunts, and whatnot was non existent. Some of this has to do with talent, but I couldnt count how many time I was screaming at the TV because of crappy defensive playcalling.... I couldnt count how many times even I, a spectator, assumed we would blitz, given the most perfect moments, and we didnt, and because our linebackers sucked in pass coverage, they would give up 11 yards on a 3rd and 10. I would love an upgrade at ILB over Crowder, or OLB over Roth.. (Although Crowder will never possess Roths tenacity)

Well..thats why we letting Crowder walk. I would take Roth over Crowder right now. He doesnt get hurt (Neither did crowder in 4 years...but he did have issues) He knows the DE possition..he does a better than average job at setting the edge, playing the run and ripping through the blocks on the run...Because hes such a big goofy dude, who played DE for a looong time, he isn't used to play pass coverage. He keeps that up, we are okay at his position. The fact that he played line for a while, makes it more comfortable for him to play the line of scrimmage during pass or run.

e did have a lot of youth on the d-line, so hopefully they can work on pass rushing... but yeah, we were unable to blitz often due to some weaknesses on our defense, which basically didn't help our woeful pressure on opposing QB's...

i am looking for an ILB to play next to Crowder (hopefully)... or soemone better than Crowder (hopefully) if we can't resign him.

I have seen mock drafts that have had Miami picking both Cushing and Sintim. I have heard good things out of both of those players thus far in the Senior Bowl

Unfortunately he thinks he worth 5 or 6 or maybe even 7 million a year.. Imagine seeing the name Channing Crowder, and then 5.5 million in the salary column. I think I would throw up. The most he worth IMO is 2.5-3 TOPS... And since he is getting almost 2 million, he probably wouldnt settle for 3... So dont let the door hit your *** too hard on the way out.

I agree, I think Roth is a much better player than Crowder overall and with passrushing abilities, and since neither can cover for ****, Roth has more value. A big goofy dude?... nice analogy

Tell me that man does not look goofy?
But from what ive read, 99% sure Crowder isn't staying. Parcells doesn't value him simply because he isn't making ANY game breaking plays.

Why is he there? Aren't 6 eyes better than 4 and 3 Football brains better than 2? Bill wants to win, Bill wants to teach, and most of all Bill loves the lime light. I, for one, am glad to see Bill cares enough to get out of his office and go look for himself. I've always felt leaders always lead better from the front.:wink2:

    Go get'm Tuna!! :yes::lol:

Clay Mathews looked pretty good in some drills so did Lawrence Sidbury and Larry English. I think those are all guys we could possibly look at getting in Round 2. I just want to know who we are going to get in round 1.

With all these good LB prospects out there I have a feeling we are going to go OL or DT in Round 1, Then work on improving our LB core in Round 2. Also most LBs that would be there at 25 would probably be there for our 1st pick in the 2nd round, so there is no sence in reaching.

Yeah, I agree with ya. I think we picking a 'hog in first round (unless of course we trade away/down) and then a backer, another hog in the second. I wont be suprised at all if we draft 5 lineman/backers. The only other position I think they might adress in first 4 round is Safety. Thats it. Thats just my 2 cents.

As I glanced at Senior Bowl practice yesterday on the tube, I couldn't help but notice B.J. Raji on the defensive line. He wouldn't be a sexy pick and I'm not exactly a surveyor of talent. But in 2004 I saw Bellichek draft a dude with similar skill and and similar size with the 21st pick in the draft. No team has been able to run on the Patriots defense with any consistency since that pick.

They (NFLN) haven't stopped showing him. Every time they pan the stands, they zoom in on Parcells and who he is talking too. They definitely have a man crush on the Tuna.

Matthews will get a look in the second but not Sidbury IMO. He's a third rounder while Larry English could be a late first. I mention all those guys but those are just the ones participating in the Senior Bowl. There's other guys out there that are talented as well but are not in this game. Michael Johnson, Aaron Maybin, Matt Shaughnessey, Julius Williams, Brandon Williams, and possibly Kirston Pittman will get looks from teams near the later rounds.

Welcome to the club, your five months late. ;)

    Uh...I dont know bro.

    But uh...

The fact that we are AFC EAST Champions should mean that we are there already.

All we are trying to do is make the next step towards an AFC Conference Championship.

All the talking heads were back at the "laughing stock" jokes the day after the Ravens loss. So nooooooo, not in the minds of many "experts" are the Dolphins even halfway back to being a respectable franchise.

I know it was amazing  ....they actually took time out, took a breath and talked about the Dolphins for about 30 seconds, and then went back to the mindless slobbering and fawning over the Cowboys and Romo.

I think Parcells is there due to how important he knows this upcoming draft is. The draft was big last year as well, but we picked first, remember? There wasn't much of a rush, we could pick whomever we wanted with the number one overall. Picking at the end of round one is a different animal. I believe he wants to make sure we hit on this 25th pick. He doesn't want another Jamar Fletcher selection, which Miami made the mistake of in 2001 with pick # 26. I also think that there must be a few players who intrigued BP enough that he wanted to see them in person. Who they are I don't know, but if this is his first Senior Bowl appearance in 5 years, then you do have to wonder why he is there. Yet, we also should be grateful, because this means that he is 100% committed to this team, and isn't going anywhere in the near future.

If he's leaving soon, I'm sure it's not to 'teach' Ireland and Sparano anything. He'd be there to talk to other GMs/coaches to see what and who is available and what he'd like to do next, what coaches are available, see if there's anyone who he has a connection with that would be an upgrade here or potential wherever he may end up if he decides to jump ship...

Look, anyone of us who thinks that the Tuna will live out this contract is dreaming...I'm not saying he's going to opt out because of the Ross thing, there hasn't been enough time for that decision to be made by Tuna yet, but his MO is not living out contracts...he left the G-men due to health...jumped ship from NE to the Jests when he didn't like the owner. Then left ESPN early to take on the 'Boys, left the 'Boys early and went back to ESPN and then jumped from there to us...Oh, and there was a near job taken in Tampa and dangled Mr. H out there in Atlanta before taking this job somewhere in there too...

Admit it folks...he's going to leave us high and dry at some point...hopefully it won't be this season though...

I prefer to think he is there, because those two are his guys. His proteges. Ireland is his hand picked choice for GM and Sparano as head coach. I believe he sees there is unfinished business in Miami and he does not want to abandon his guys, or leave them in the lurch. This gig is his last go around and Bill wants to do it up right.
