    Channing Crowder-LB- Dolphins Jan. 19 - 8:06 pm et

    This is from http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=3284

The Dolphins and impending free agent Channing Crowder reportedly remain far apart on contract terms.

Miami is smartly avoiding shelling out much guaranteed money to a player with a history of knee trouble whose best season came in a contract year. Crowder is a good player when healthy, but isn't worth D.J. Williams money.

Not surprising. As I've been saying, Crowder is not worth the big money he wants. I'd give it to Dansby.

What they figure is that if the top linebacker demands say 7m and Crowder 5m what's the point of giving Crowder all that cash?

I think Channing Crowder is the most overrated guy on the Phins. I hope we don't overpay him. I'd prefer we just trade him for a draft pick.

In four years he has ZERO int's, TWO sacks, THREE forced fumbles and three recovered. Zzzzzz.

What drives me crazy about Crowder is that he is so damn incapable of applying good pressure up the middle. Dansby on the other hand can do it with ease. Dansby had a 8 sacks season a couple years ago.

I can see the rationale in letting Crowder go. To be honest if Jordan Gross were to not be franchised I could easily see the rationale in acquiring him too. Prices may be similar for players in the market but talent isn't.

If it costs maybe 4m-5m a year to go from Crowder-Carey to Dansby-Gross you do it.

I mean seriously it's pathetic that our entire ILB core produced .5 sacks. The Steelers produced 10 sacks. The Ravens had six.

I mean I keep hearing about how pathetic Matt Roth was at SOLB, but if you add four more sacks or so with your ILBs from a guy like a Karlos Dansby hey guess what you've not only upgraded in all the other departments Crowder was good at but also your pass rush in a major way. No pressure up the middle is idiotic.

I like Crowder, have since day one in the Phins uni. He is not worth the money he is expecting though, and it is better that the team does what they appear to be doing, and that is letting him walk.

He may not be a star but he's certainly a solid LB. Not to mention he's got great intensity and energy on the field. I'd love for him to get resigned, but for a price that's fair for both sides.

I mean think about it this way, a 4-3 and a 3-4 are not that different in that they try to provide pressure from the same basic angles. The way they do this is different but it's not like a 3-4 should ever rely on merely the edges. In a great defense you must have inside as well as edge pressure.

When playing the Dolphins I would tell my LG, C, and RG to have a tea-party. Only my tackles have to work most of the time and if a OLB gets through guess what we'll just shift attention over.
Oh you know what let's do even better. Let's force them to take Roth out of the game or prevent Torbor from going in by going into the spread formation. Wonderful now we have ZEROOOOOOO pressure from the middle (the 3-4 DEs once in a while will break through because ours are actually quite good) and almost nothing from the left.

It's one of the reason why it seems like the Ravens are so much better at rushing the passer. Inside pressure usually doesn't represent itself in sacks, it simply disrupts the play. I guarantee that if we exchange Dansby for Crowder we've essentially added the effect of a major pass rusher at LOLB while upgrading the tackling, matching the coverage, and overall ability the middle of our LB core possessed last year.

Crowder is average at best. . I like the Idea of Dansby but how about Bart Scott from the Ravens . . should he be let go. . although their is a rumour Ray Lewis is being targeted by Dallas in which case the Ravens will be able to keep him (Scott) with no financial worries. . shame if true. .

I can understand letting Crowder go, but those of you hoping for Dansby should let that dream die. The cards have the franchise tag and no one to use it on.

As I was watching the Arizona Cards play on Sunday, I kept an eye out for Dansby because of all the talk on this board about him.
The truth is I didn't hear his name but 1 time. IDK what all the fuss is about.

iam interested to see what james L weighs in at..i think i heard that channing was playing at about 235 at the end of the year, with channings visible lack of strength at the point of attack i would take James l at his position in a heart beat. If i could just swap em out. I know James will make plays behind the LOS. just havin some fun here

Crowder has value as a leader and communicator that make him more valuable than purely his performance in #s of tackles, etc.. That said, I'm in agreement that you can't overlook the lack of big plays when he's looking for the big $. He's a solid tackler, but he doesn't anticipate the play such that he can make tackles in the backfield: they're always down the field. I'd really like to see him stick around, but if there is an upgrade available, I don't know where Crowder would really fit in.

Channing Crowder is an OK ILB. As long as he accepts that and is prepared to accept OK money I have no problem with the 'fins signing him.

My issue, which is probably unwarranted, is flashbacks to the Wanny years. We used to let FAs walk because they wanted "too much money" but didn't actually get a replacement who was any better.

He expects way too much money. The sad part is that some team might just be willing to give him close to what he wants.

He is a boarderline dirty player, and by that I mean that I've seen him kick a player in his side while he was down. I've seen him step on a Rb's leg and not because he had no choice, and he loves to use a clothesline to tackle sometimes and he even used the ol clothesline in training camp a few times.

He can tackle, but he is not instinctive enough to consistantly make tackles at the LOS. I don't know if it's his ego but I've also noticed he tends to take on the big lineman head on way too much where in some cases he could have tried to shoot thru a gap to make the lineman go after him.

One thing I will admit is that this year he played much better than any so far but if he wants around 5 mil a year, and I were the GM, I would help him find another team. I would pay no more than 3-3.5 million a year and maybe add some incentives that would insure he had a very good year in order to cash in on them....

If we could get Carlos Dansby that would be great I would love that. But I say we let Channing Chrowder test the water and he will come back and whenhe does not get his big money.

    Hi, Channing?

This is Rex Ryan. We'll gladly welcome you to New York to be a situational player with Calvin Pace, David Harris, David Bowens, Vernon Gholston & soon to be Jet Bart Scott.

Last year we got Charlie Anderson for 7.35 mill for 3 years and he got a $2.5 million signing bonus..............and they told him he'd have a chance to start at OLB and come in on Passing downs.

He never started cuzz he got hurt in camp and Roth was playing to well to take him out.

So Bill payed someone he thought was going to be a part time player , the same amount some here think CC is worth.

To better show some here the marketplace ...........Last year we only signed one player that we all knew was going to be a Full time starter, and Justin Smiley got a 5 year 25 million deal.

So if some of you are going to say he's not worth this or that at least try and understand the market place.

Here is the 2008 exclusive franchise player costs by position http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchise_tag

And no i'm not saying we should Franchise CC this is just so you can see what other players make by Position.

So even if some of you do think Smiley is a tad better player they should both be making about the same money.

I think they both are better then average.

Smiley is a great pulling guard, and sub par when asked to move the guy right in front of him.He is 1/3 of the reason why we couldn't run up the gut and started running side ways all year with the wildcat.

I think most here would say Channing is a lil better then average and the market for that is way more them 3 million a year now a' days.

Calvin Pace is going to make 26 million in the 1st 3 years of his deal, so i don't think 15 million for Channing over 3 years time is a bad deal.....at all.

I think Channing is a solid linebacker that you want on your team. He isn't a gamechanger, but he certainly does his job. I think he's be a better fit on a team that plays the 4-3 though.

Hopefully we can resign him but not for too much.

If the market is 5 mil for a player that is barely above average, no thanks. I'd rather pay another young draft pick that has better instincts and get him a highly paid OLB next to him.
