looks like either they are going to co-exist... or blu-ray is going to be the winner, but HD-DVD is certainly not winning this one.

Stick a fork in them. Paramount is next very soon.

Glad to see that the better format is going to win.

Now, let's get better players at cheaper prices.

And let's get those discs at cheaper prices too. It's $30+ for a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD around here plus tax compared to $16-$19 for 2-disc DVD's.

I think that will happen soon. This will also likely increase PS3 sales.

Hear, hear. I picked up an HD DVD player a couple months ago for $100 at walmart, if Blue Ray drops into that range I will pick one up in a second but I don't want to have to pay $300 for one.

And I also hope Blue Ray makes Dolby True HD standard for Blue Ray, HD DVD did while as far as I know its still up to the studio on whether or not they want to do it on Blue Ray. I mean come on, its 1080P high def picture. Lets not go skimping on the sound.

$100? It either is an "Up-convert" or it is read/only

I recently bought an "Up-Convert" and it is pretty nice + I can see all my "Old" DVD's at 780P. which is good enough for me. It is read/write...and I can still buy DVD's all day for cheap.

As for quality, yeah, I do think Blu-Ray is better, but I think its gonna be awhile before we see signifigant price drops for players...

Coulda got the 40 GB model for $319 at Kmart back just before Thanksgiving.

They had a 20% off coupon on any one item in the store in their flyer.

$80 off the 40 GB and $100 off the 80 GB model.

YES thank GOD. Though that does not say Universal is going Blu-Ray just that there contract has expired so untill they Say Universal is Blu-Ray than im not freaking out. But with Warner now Blu-RAY im Stoked and can finally start buying Blu-Ray with confidence of not owing the betamax (Ouch-- HD-DVD) But honestly it was going to happen the PS3 is going to have a HUGE install base and therefore a huge Blu-Ray install base...

PS3 is not going to drop anytime soon so might as well go get one... With this news the PS3 is still the best cheapest real Blu-Ray player and a game console to boot!

This will increase sales and no price drop in expected till late summer earliest.

That was amazing. My mom ended up getting me (as a xmas gift) the 80GB PS3 for $399 back when that coupon was out.

Rumor or not, it will happen eventually. 2 companies supporting one format is not enough.

I dont have a run-down, but it seems that there is just as much support for HD-DVD as there is for Blu-ray.

Definitely not. 75% of the market is Blu-Ray.
