http://www.globesports.com/servlet/...wsptwake0115/GSStory/GlobeSportsFootball/home Here's some more info about him: http://www.bclions.com/roster/show/id/1217 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2zk_hiMoVk"]YouTube - Cameron Wake vertical leap(11'8")[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-CujsFRLk8"]YouTube - CFL 2007 Outstanding Defensive Player- Cameron Wake[/ame] :31 in [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXhvg2HhTo0"]YouTube - Cameron Wake Feature[/ame] Thoughts? Just thought I'd post this since I follow the CFL, this guy was a beast last season!
I think he can do well, needs to bulk up a little bit. But he's a workout freak and very level headed.
I think he'd be great in the NFL and would love to sign him. This guy is a pass rushing freak, and may be raw by NFL standards, but I think he'd transition well. I think he would love to come down to the weather in Miami. Not to mention tax free. I also think that of the other teams mentioned as potential teams for him, we may be more intriguing because we are on the way up. Minnesota is iffy, N.Orleans is inconsistent from year to year and Indy is somewhat in flux with a new coach coming aboard.
Nevermind, I just watched the second video. He is like 6-3 243, but he looks Huge in comparison to the other players out there. Just goes to show you the difference between the NFL and CFL. Where ever you play 16 Sacks is very impressive though.
For those unsure of whether a CFL player could be good enough to warrant NFL attention, I'd like to bring up the name Mark Dixon. We signed him from the CFL and he was a great O-lineman for us for five years.
Are you kidding me... he went to Penn State!! That place is a linebacker factory! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameron_Wake Only concern... it says switching him from LB to DE is what made him suddenly play great..... but, uhhhhhh we'd be moving him back to LB in our system.
This is intriguing. I love how we are working out CFL players looking for potential steals in talent. Especially right after the season. FO is doing their thing. This Wake guy seems impressive to me. This is the first I have heard of him. I am sure Parcells can lure this guy in if he wants.
He looks bigger than 240 pounds though. He looked at least 250 in those videos. But who knows. Interesting guy.
Looks like if he could last in camp, he'd end up fighting CA for the 3rd down LDE spot. But even with a vertical jump of 45½ inches holy!!! a 4.38 40 ,holy!!! He still didn't get drafted then only lasted a year in the NFL. http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/....html?id=d34e4b90-e5a4-4371-b38d-e311ba589f70
Only he isn't the #5 pick, and he won't cost 25 million to sign him. If he can play Special Teams, he could stick, our Coaches are adamant that back ups most play Special Teams, if they don't then they sit. You'd be surprised who has went from the CFL to the NFL and played well.
Yep, Gholston was the first person that came to mind when I saw those videos. However, I don't think Big Vern will be ripping bills off the ceiling anytime soon. This guy is pretty impressive with his work ethic and listening to him talk. He def seems like a BP guy. Anyone know when we would be able to sign him? I'm not sure what the time frame would be since he's from the CFL.
The difference between this guy and Vern? We won't be using the sixth overall pick on him. Or whatever number it is.
He'd be just a Free Agent, but not in the NFL sense of the word, he is no different then a street FA, he can be signed at any time, but right now, the rosters are still at 54, and the salary cap update happens in Feb. so chances are good if he is going to be signed, it won't happen until Feb. Hmm...anyone want to go check out the Saints fans boards to see what they think of him, he is going to work out for a couple more teams.
Here is a OP from the SaintsBoard...interesting stuff, they say pretty much what we say about the man: http://www.saintsreport.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1705983
Rashad Jeanty of Cincinnati is another example of a CFL player who's transitioned well to the NFL, albeit in a 4-3 defense.
I hope we give the kid a shot. At worst, he'll just become training camp fodder. At best, he'll be one of those heartwarming rags to riches stories in the NFL and he will provide a much needed lift in terms of pass rush on obvious passing downs.
He can't be worse than Channing Crowder....and from looking at the films, at least he gets to the ball carrier and QB's from time to time.
I've watched Wake a litttle since I'm in Canada and can say he will play on Sundays in the NFL. I don't know how good he will be though. I'll also say if Crowder leaves I could care less as long as we sign someone else To say Wake will be better then Crowder who has been a starter for 4 years is going out on a limb
So he is 260? Thought so, he is to thick to be 240, that sort of ups his utility if they decided to sign him.
Well being in Canada, I follow the CFL somewhat. Wake was definitely a beast in the CFL. How that would carry over to the NFL who knows? There is a big difference between the 2 leagues. It is alot harder to get it done in the NFL, although a few players have done it in the past. Moon, Garcia and Flutie come to mind. Hope that if he does go on to get in done in the NFL,that it is with the Phins.
